When you play against bad teams, your metric will definitely look very great...

Lsu even can not guard our simple ISO and cut...

And our little brother played a ton of games against teams even worse than LSU...

The ACC as a whole sucks this year.
The ACC has 9 (half of it's 18) teams outside the top 100 in the NET.
The 4 other Power conferences (61 teams) only have 3 outside the top 100.
That means the ACC has 9 of the 12 worst P5 teams (& 7 of the worst 9).
There are 34 mid-major schools ranked ahead of HALF (9 teams) from the ACC.

It’s a mixed bag imo. ACC teams will get a lot of credit they don’t deserve and get teams in/seeding they don’t deserve. That’s kind of baked into the system of everybody pretending 2025 Duke is some kind of juggernaut. Sort of a PITA.

Otoh it’s the perfect seed bed for making a tournament bracket that will open up after the first weekend. Then if just a few of the actually good teams also stumble, suddenly we’re looking at a situation where we really could be a FF dark horse again, even though we don’t have the same ceiling without JR.

The thing that bothers me is Duke will receive the easiest bracket. They always do. They will also shoot 25-30 free throws a game until the officials just can’t save them anymore.

The same type of team that gives us problems will give Duke problems IMO. A talented, long and athletic team will be their downfall.

Not if it's a metric worth using.

A good metric should already account for this by factoring in strength of schedule.

Because the truth of the matter is you can't pick your conference.
The only thing you can do is put up more impressive numbers against the weaker teams.

In other words, looking at the ACC. Sure Duke's record is benefited from the fact they are playing weak teams in the ACC. Most of those games, there was no doubt they were coming on the right side of the W/L column. But the reason they are rated so highly is what they are doing to those teams relative to what everyone else did.

I think this is the only logical way of doing things too. It's not reasonable to think that a poor conference can't have a really good team in it and I don't think it's reasonable to think that a team cannot be good because they played in weak conference. It just means they are all the more to do against those teams to combat and lack of SOS.

The ACC is closer to the sunbelt than the SEC

If you think about last year, oakland was on fire with one guy. And I guess the rest of their team played good defense.

Arguably, If a team gets Hot, they gonna win regardless of their record.

My thoughts looking back, would Pope have beat oakland, considering his style of play?

Or was Oakland so good for one game, that they could've even beat UCONN last year.
