I’m bulking up for this one. Cold ain’t getting through the layers I’m building.
Really hoping the possibility of the storm pushing south (which some are suggesting is possible) happens and most of Kentucky can get into “mostly snow” territory. Sorry, not sorry, Tennessee.Polar Vortex flexing its muscle next week hope everyone keeps their power on after what looks to be a major ice storm bearing down on most of KY.
I just got home from the store. (I do my regular shopping on Fridays). I gotta tell you, the shelves are almost empty and people are just down right nasty and rude. You would definitely think WW3 was about to happen.I appreciate everybody that panic buys.
Those store shelves look like world war 3.
Hubby and I just about pulled the trigger on moving up to Syracuse, NY this past summer. We both love cooler summers and snowy winters. I hate Kentucky summers, bleh. The northwestern UP of Michigan, in the Keweenaw. We get lots of lake effect snow, the average is about 280 inches a winter, good powder. Our summers can be just glorious, too.
I'd rather have snow than ice and freezing rain. That's the worst.
I have a weapon up my sleeve. I'll eat two cans of baked beans, and then visit that store. They'll think WW3 was happening.I just got home from the store. (I do my regular shopping on Fridays). Old Plumbers son here. Just drip the faucet, about a drip ever 2 seconds faucets. If you can get some of the Styrofoam insulation you can tape to the outside of the house where the pipes are located. Not a fail safe but it does help. Other thing you can do if you have an old hair dryer you can put on low and run for 10 minutes at a time about once an hour under sinks, Just move out anything flammable. Again not fail safes but they do help. I spent my winters growing up in Lexington on many a horse farm with my father with pipe thawers to horse barns. Was not a fun way to be outside as an 11 year old. lolFrozen pipes and power outages are my main concern. I have a house built in 1980, and pipes are on the outer wall. Next house I buy will not be that way. I had the plumbers come over today and they could not do anything to winterize my pipes (I have pex/copper). Snow, ok, Ice, stay the frick away.

Agreed, the summers there are miserable. I don't even have air conditioning here.Hubby and I just about pulled the trigger on moving up to Syracuse, NY this past summer. We both love cooler summers and snowy winters. I hate Kentucky summers, bleh.

We're on a crawlspace and the kitchen sink is on an outside wall. When it gets really cold, I'll put a thick blanket under the sink against the wall and I put that thick insulated tape on the pipes and let it drip. I'll seal off the crawlspace vents as well and it stays toasty when temps go below zero. Looks like I'll have to do that for a few days next week.Drip your faucets. That keeps water moving enough to where they hopefully won't burst. I don't think it's going to get cold enough (yet) for that moving water to freeze.
There are a couple of good meteorologists on YouTube, Ryan Hall and Max Velocity. Those guys show 3-4 models and give their best guess, been following them for awhile and they’re much better at their forecasts than the talking heads. The National Weather Service is pretty good. It's the forecasters on the local TV stations who need ratings so they go with the worst looking computer models.
The 1994 storm is still one of the worst I can remember in my life. We had like 10 days off school and sledding and snowball fights as a kid though! If we get 1.5 inches of ice, lots of areas will be without power for 1-2 weeks. My location got hit hard by the ice storms of 2021 and 1994. I don't look forward to experiencing a repeat of that.
Snow is fine with me I just want no part of ice storms.Really hoping the possibility of the storm pushing south (which some are suggesting is possible) happens and most of Kentucky can get into “mostly snow” territory. Sorry, not sorry, Tennessee.
We always drip the faucets and I bought a couple space heaters for the laundry room and basement to help keep cooler areas warm. Haven’t had a busted pipe here since 1990 knock on wood no Rafters game jinx.Old Plumbers son here. Just drip the faucet, about a drip ever 2 seconds faucets. You should’ve been here for the 78 stormThe 1994 storm is still one of the worst I can remember in my life. We had like 10 days off school and sledding and snowball fights as a kid though!
Living in Florida is not all it's cracked to be.Would love to move to Florida one day. I'm n TN and over it.
RIP Hagan and Donovan HallThe ice storm in 94 turned Haggin Hall into an ice rink, where we immediately started sliding around on everything we could find. It was wild.
Blame Canada😊Down here we're hoping for not much either. I have to be at work tomorrow night and I really don't want to have to drive in ice. I have hours to cover one absence but that's it. Rather not be out of work yet again. I HATE this crap.
Finally a good reason for moving here last year 😂It looks like TN will be overall spared by this nonsense.
I hope it isn't that bad for everyone n KY. Hopefully it's more snow than ice.
You should’ve been here for the 78 storm
That put 94 to shame lol
Live in Louisville, last big freezing rain storm, no electricity for 7 days. Temperatures in the single digits for several days, wish I could afford a good generator. This has the making of a major storm for ky with ice up to 1.5 inches for parts of the state. With temps below freezing for weeks this could be a disaster. If you live in central ky prepare today if you can. No electricity for 3days or longer is possible.
Agreed.I may be the exception to your possibly accurate opinion, but I freaking love a good snow. I like the challenge of it. And the beauty. I don't think I could truly be happy outside the Midwest, cause I like having all four seasons. Terrible days help you appreciate beautiful days, IMO.
