Maclin is returning

Its all about entering the portal, waiting for the bidding war to end and then either leaving or staying.
I dont know why they dont all do it!
Need to make these kids sign multi yr contracts like the pros to fizzle out some of this stuff.
A term for a 'contract' is what is needed to make some of this wildness tame down. No sympathy on schools for this one though. Schools always have and want to keep things at a year by year renewal so they can get out of it with players they don't want but now they gripe about the players. It needs to be somewhere in the middle

Like portal QBs have been so good for us. A portal QB tells all young QBs that you will never get developed because next year and the year after we will get another portal QB that was not good enough to play where they come from but are better than I think you could be. This is a losing failed strategy. Sorry but I pass on another portal QB.

We have to get one. Going into next year with just a 2nd year boley and freshman saunders would be taking irresponsible risk. Even if it's just one that can be serviceable Stephen Johnson type if we need them that has actually played college ball.

Good point.

This is what you want in the portal. My guess is Key and Brown wanted more because the market probably would bear it they let them go.

I honestly don’t understand the WR market. Like UGA supposedly throwing $$$ at Key. His production doesn’t support it. Same with Brown why? There are fast dudes everywhere that were extremely productive like Maclin. Don’t look at the high school rankings look at the production.

If you think about it as strategy rather than just a transaction, it will make more sense. It's not just about what Brown or Key can do for UGA compared to their other receivers. It's also about what losing them for UK or taking them off the market can do to keep others from getting better. They have talent and potential or they wouldn't be valued at all, but they clearly aren't respectful of their teammates or the staff.

Being surrounded by 5 stars would help them and give them a little dose of humility.

The challenging part of the portal is evaluating Oline. Can a guy from the lower level stay up against SEC lines?

There are plenty of OL from non-P5 schools playing in the league. The hard part is finding them at their current schools and convincing them to come here. Those players may not be in the portal, either

I think it ultimately will , with the linemen . They say Trayanum wants come back ( hopefully 100%) at RB and the emergence of Wilcox has me feeling ok about the RB potential next yr. Trayanum was a Doak Walker candidate prior to injury and was reallly good at OSU in big ten ….a conference well known for defense .
Getting the line in order and much improved is job 1 before most of it matters , tho

Wilcox, Trayanum, and Patterson will make us forget Davis if they all stay on board.

Trayanum had a tough injury for a RB..broken hand. They use it to carry the ball , need full strength and are smacked across the hand on strip/fumble attempts by defender on every carry , virtually

FSU, Miami, Oregon, OSU, Vandy, etc.

I've heard nothing regarding Brock leaving or staying. Assuming he leaves I kinda agree with you regarding the need for a serviceable Johnson type of QB. On the other hand he would have to be a significant upgrade for little NIL or you just keep Wimsatt.

Brock did not play against UL and Stoops later said he and Brock spoke, but Stoops said the news was Brock’s to announce, not Stoops’. So, we can assume he is not coming back to UK, but do not know his plans.

My guess is Brock would be invited back to compete, but not as a typical incumbent starter and with much less NIL . Just part of the competition

The Johnson type is essentially what Wimsatt was supposed to be, and behind a better OL, he could be. He was misused this year by putting him in there in essentially Wildcat formations and exclusively running him, until he actually had to come in a few times and play meaningful snaps. He seemed to have a good connection with Macklin. Who knows.

Well, if Cutter would have played A LOT better against the Cards and not thrown numerous INT's, I would agree with this. But we will have 3 Freshmen QB's next season, which means we will need a competent QB with experience for at least 1 year. Brock was supposed to be a 2 year QB here, but he failed miserably. He was brought in by Coen, so I will give Hamden some grace here.

So now Bush has an opportunity to bring in HIS QB. Hopefully, it will be someone that can play at a level that is a whole lot better than the past 2. But QB's are hard to find.

Boley just needs more time to develop. The SEC is the toughest conference in America for a young QB. However, South Carolina, UT and Florida have found good ones. Coach Stoops has been dreadful at developing young QB's, but I'm sure he knows this and is working to change that, I hope for all of us, he figures it out.

Rolling with Cutter in ‘25 will likely have us richly rewarded for it in ‘26 and ‘27…similar to Andre Woodson in 2005…then getting ‘06 and ‘07 of pretty elite play . Issue is Stoops needs to win in ‘25

Maybe, but unless we get a competent O-Line, Cutter could be running for his life again while trying to gain experience. That's why I would be hesitant to throw him out there. Don't want to ruin his confidence or even worse get him hurt.

If we had the O-Line shored up, I would totally agree with you.

For the skill positions on offense and the entire defense, I think we should go TOTALLY young next season.

Agree ….a good , revamped line ( a priority with NIL now ) would also allow a pretty good RB room ( Trayanum, Wilcox, Patterson) to shine a bit in ‘25 also, taking much pressure off Cutter

Yep

How many of the new recruits will be here for Spring Practice. Will Saunders be here?

I think Maclin can be a #1 receiver. But I think Key and Brown were priorities due to NIL. Now he will have his chance.
