I may be wrong about it, but how come it seemed Maclin, Gilmore, Farrier snd Stephens-Brown could regularly get separation on deep routes, but Barion Brown rarely, if ever, did ?? Is this my imagination, or did anyone else see this ??

How come there is always talk about tight ends being used as receivers, but they are rarely targeted ??

I think the other teams pay more attention to Brown and Key. However, those others you mentioned may have better instinct for finding tge open areas. They also catch the ball better than. Brown. Key has good hands but seems like he has trouble getting himself open.

This makes sense and is what I see. They DEFINITELY catch the ball better than Brown !!

Because Brown isn’t nearly as good as his reputation as such would suggest. People seem to equate his kick return abilities with being a well-rounded receiver, which he is not.

You can find the first answer by watching some of Van Hiles film breakdowns. He doesn’t do anything to put stress on a dback . He’s a lazy route runner who thinks the things that worked in high school will work in the sec .

Van had a really good clip of him half jogging a route on a pass that came his way…

The TE part has to be execution. Every time they wanted it it was open…just never looked that way.

LOL, Anthony Stephens-Brown had all of 77 yards receiving, 52 came against terrible D2 Murray State. Yeap, when I think of a WR who got separation, Anthony Stephens-Brown sure comes to mind. Barion Brown was known for speed, breaking big gains on short passes or return game. he did not have the greatest hands or WR route running ability, his speed was his weapon.

Upper body , hand and wrist strength and development is crucial for WR. NCAA only allows so much ‘required’ stuff and time . Elite WR take their own time and watch their routes on film , adjust and get stronger

They are giving him that huge NIL check, maybe they feel like they have to play him

There's a lot of pressure on the staff to play the guys that are getting endorsement money. "If they're not a "star" on the team, then what are we paying for?" That's the area where we are struggling managing "talent" and trying to reward merit. One has to give, and I'd give up the paid in favor of those earning it EVERY DAMM TIME.

One thing not mentioned much here is NIL savings with no Key, Brown or Silver ….zion and walker going pro, also . Stoops acted like he’d be flush with cash in this portal , and that seems easier to believe
