Not saying he doesn't know ppl in the know, just that saying we "lead" for Barrett and Zion is A) something that can change Day to day B) Has people thinking we're in some huge vantage point in very open recruitments. Not saying Barrett and Zion won't be here. I'm not just going to jump for joy bc MJ said it. I remember him saying we're leading for Zimmerman Newman brown, he even said we were leading for Bamba forever. I'm sure someone told him "things look good for X Y and Z" but as @morgousky said it's mostly fluff for our fan base. Kind of like how KU fans think they will get everyone bc they blow smoke everywhere. When was the last time MJ said we weren't "Leading" or "In the mix", he won't bc it doesn't get him hits on his website.

Oh and btw, Calipari was notorious at Memphis for using guys like MJ to get a point out, so I'm sure he has a lower level assistant feed Jones to feed us. But it's going to be basic or a "heads up" about a recruit Cal already knows he's got. Won't be anything in depth. That's essentially what MJ probably is to Cal. Media guy to feed the masses mainly fluff.

Cal actually used an assistant to keep up with Memphis message boards and fan opinion. I'd bet a million Cal is well aware of what's happening on rafters.
Yep . While I don't pay much attention to MJ ( mostly becuase I live in Florida and don't listen to Kentucky radio) I do believe he probably has a little inside knowledge .

Yeah did he say we were definitely not getting him?

Pretty much. He's like just about everyone else who talks about recruiting, dependent on the feelings and thoughts of teenagers.

Not sure why people freak out about recruiting predictions. Nothing is ever set in stone and MJ adds disclaimers almost every time he discusses it.

John Wall and Eric Bledsoe say hi.

Vanderbilt, Washington, and Knox also say hi.

It will be tough, but if anyone can do it it's Cal.

True.

But this would be bigger than anyone of those because it's two guys in the top 5 at the same position. Actually it's the #1 and #2 players in the country at the same position.

The chances of us getting both are astronomical, IMHO.

Zion is mobile, athletic 4 at UK. A more athletic Julius Randle. I think he'd pair beautifully with Barrett.

He'd absolutely thrive on the inside with Barrett drawing double-teams. Cal will also make him into a great defender, which will make up for the fact he's an NBA tweeter. He'll be in contention for No. 1 pick.

Would you settle for 4 in the top 10?

If it's all freshman 7-10, it's probably not enough. Even if one is underrated, a few will probably end up more around 15-20, or worse.

It's not just that we need top 5 guys, we need LEGITIMATE top 5 guys. Skal will do no good, you need AD and MKG. it's tough.

If Cal was traditional roster building and signed 4 top 7-10, to go along with returning all conference players etc it would be excellent. That's not what we do.

Cal has been at Kentucky for 8 years, and although close, he still has yet to finish the job off without the top two players in the class. That's plenty of sample size to say there could be some validity to the argument.

Fair point on the ratings. I do think Bledsoe was underrated in his class but that's another conversation entirely.

Fingers crossed!

Every time Cal tries to get guys who will stay three years that player transfers.
