Can't lie....after me and my young son ( who is now married and expecting a baby boy today) drove from NC to Lexington only to witness first hand the "Doucing the losing coach with Gatorade and storming the field" LSU debacle, it sort of does me good to see them lose in the fashion that they did against Florida State.

I might quit smiling in a week.

Could be a start to a hell of a rivalry between the two if FSU joins the SEC. I think they have the tradition and are powerful enough to compete every few years for a conference championship. Always thought the Tomahawk chaint the whole stadium does is the coolest one of them all. Gives me chills. The Indian on the horse with the Headdress and war spear. Pretty cool... GO CATS

Oh and why is FSU allowed to use the Seminole's. Is it because the they depict them positively? I love it. Just curious as to the reason it's ok there but allowed and the Redskins had to change along with a few others.

The Seminole Indians of Florida are proud they are the mascot for FSU. The Florida tribes officially sanction the use. I understand a Seminole tribe in Oklahoma had a problem but none of the Florida tribes did so that ended that. The Seminoles of Florida are very proud people and are the only American Indians that were never conquered by the United States. In fact just a few miles from where I live at "The Battle of Dade", Seminoles killed all but one U.S. soldier during the Seminole Indian War, wiping out an entire company of U.S. troops. That one soldier survived and managed to get back to the fort at Ocala. Seminoles were ferocious warriors and often skinned their victims sending a message.

1978 marked the first appearance of Osceola and Renegade, in which a student portrays the 19th-century Seminole leader Osceola, riding Renegade, an Appaloosa horse. The student, chosen for his horsemanship, wears clothing provided by the Seminole tribe but is not necessarily of Native American descent himself. The Seminole Tribe of Florida officially sanctions the use of the Seminole as Florida State University's nickname and of Osceola as FSU's symbol. Max Osceola, the chief and general council president of the Seminole Tribe of Florida, has stated that he regards it as an "honor" to be associated with the university.

Hard to tell if LSU is better this year. FSU could be one of the better teams in the ACC. But, Kelly losing his first game on a blocked PAT kind of feels apropos, given that he seems like an odd match for LSU, from a personality perspective. Of course, Notre Dame also lost. So, there is that.

Seriously? Seminoles is a specific tribe name and they have told FSU they are fine with them using the name.
Redskins is a derogatory generalization that should have been never used!

Yeah but ND lost to the Ohio St that is ranked #2, LSU lost to an unranked FSU who has sucked for 5 yrs in New Orleans.

Now tell us about the "Fighting Irish"
I am Irish and I am deeply offended by the name Fighting Irish. I never fought much as a kid but when I did I always lost. The kids I fought did come down fevers a few days later, because I had dirty fingernails and a chronic sore throat and I scratched and bit a lot. Anyway, I am thinking of suing to have the name changed to the "Paficist Irish". Hay Hack, do you do Pro Bono work?

Now tell us about the "Fighting Irish"
I have some Irish blood. It is a bit fermented, but never leads me to fight. That said, the problem with Notre Dame is the school discriminates against the black Irish and the lasses. Their mascots are always red headed white guys.

Now if people really knew why LSU is called "Tigers". Don't tell anybody but it came from a Confederate unit known for it's fierce and fearless fighting. LSU was started as a military school so it was not surprising they would take a military unit as a mascot. The 9th Louisiana Infantry was called the "Louisiana Tigers" and consisted of many men who were foreign born from Ireland. They dressed in uniforms similar to the "French Zouave"

This is not for public knowledge and let's keep it Louisiana's little secret. A Louisiana Confederate soldier is pictured below. Ole Miss was not the only SEC school that embraced a Confederate mascot.

If I was an LSU fan, that was an all time kick in the nuts

First they fumbled not one but TWO punts, trying desperately to give the game away, but NOOOOOOOO, Fla State tried to give it right back with a ridiculous fumble at the goal line, when even a FG would have iced it. But then, just when LSU seemingly pulled a miracle right out of its ass, they gave it away again with a blocked XP.

OT: What is the rule on that last pass before the TD? If it was ruled that the player's knee was down inbounds, although they initially ruled him OOB, wouldn't the clock keep running when they marked the ball running out the final second? Seems like LSU got a break when the replay reversed the call, that seems whacked to me.

The play resulted in a first down so the clock would have been stopped to move the chains and could not have been restarted until the ball was set for play by the officials.

Thus, LSU was going to get one more play regardless of whether the receiver got out of bounds since he made a first down.

Refs just screwed it up. As usual.

The only redeeming quality of that miserable last second Hail Mary is I get to see 2 of my sons on film frozen in time coming out of the end zone as the LSU receiver whizzes by! Wish they would have tripped him.

The other poster gave a good historical breakdown….

But it starts with “seminoles” being an actual tribe and redskins being slang that some people view as derogatory.

The local tribe is also heavily involved with the university. Their homecoming “king and queen” are “chief and princess” and are given a headdress by a tribe representative.

I repeated it over and over but it’s how the Washington Redskins should have rebranded…find a local tribe that sees value in having a major organization promoting and displaying your legacy. Name the team the tribe name. Release a statement that the intention was to always honor the fierce warrior spirit and you realized that the previous name had become outdated and brought in a new life/meaning that was never intended… have a tribe representative announce the new name and mascot depiction that was designed by the tribe itself…talk about honoring them etc. <<<<<that’s how you could have kept the teams tradition and satisfied the mob…or at least took their ability to be offended on others behalf away
