LSU Coach retiring

Brian O'Connor also being discussed by their fans as a possibility.

Basically, anyone in Omaha is on their list. lol

Supposedly the LSU AD was in Omaha over the weekend. Safe to assume he was there to talk to Vitello.
Seriously doubt he was there to talk to Vitello. He has to have permission from UT AD to talk to him and as bad as TN ADs have been I can't imagine TN's AD allowing a face to face during the CWS. There to observe? Maybe. There to discuss? Doubtful.

I’m surprised LSU is having this hard of a time filling the position.

In reality, we don't know whether they are having a hard time or not. They could be having a hard time, but the assumption is also that they want one of the coaches who is still coaching and that is why it hasn't been filled. We don't really know what is the case. I think if it isn't someone coaching still then we get our answer on that though.

Tennessee lost last night, so we will see what will happen. Vol fans and radio guys seems pretty confident that they retain Vitello and that they will make him one of the highest (if not the highest) paid coaches in college baseball. They are also saying they are going to pump 40 million into upgrades.

A lot of speculation floating on who LSU could hire. One good point I saw was that with the NIL rules that Corbin could very well lose the recruiting advantage he has at Vandy. So, if he is going to continue coaching, now would be a good time to get out before he no longer can regularly sign the best recruiting classes.

TN's been operating in the red for the past several years so it'll be interesting to see where that money comes from. Maybe they think they can keep Todd Helton sober enough to pick his pockets. TV claims he nor his reps have heard from LSU.

Hahahaha

I find it interesting that last year UT asked him and a bunch of other coaches to take a pay cut. He agreed and got a stipulation at some point that he'd get some big bonus if he won the SEC or the CWS (pretty big goals for bonuses). Also, it is my understanding that his contract ends after this year... so in like a week. Not sure why the hell the never extended him at all this season. Why would you not get him signed again before anyone could fire coaches and hire him from you?!

UT will find the money... Vitello really put a charge into the fanbase with their success. I have literally never heard more people in this area care about college baseball than this past month. Hell, I had people that would mock me for being a college baseball fan, suddenly acting like they've followed UT for decades.

LOL, ask their fans if they know what "6-4-3" means, they won't have a clue.

I used to get free VIP tickets to UT games pretty much all the time. Would go and get free food and drinks. Stadium was never ever packed. One game I happened to sit next to the wife of former Red's pitcher Charlie Puleo and that was a treat. Her husband was doing the TV broadcast for UT, his first time, and she began talking to me about it and mocking the UT fans for knowing nothing about baseball. We had some good laughs at their expense.

One LSU reporter claiming that Jay Johnson (Arizona) Cliff Godwin (ECU) and Link Jarrett (Notre Dame) are the finalists.

Never thought Vitello was a serious candidate at LSU, just imagined they'd want someone with more experience and that looks like the direction they're headed. Personally think Johnson will get the job.

Not sure. I was reading the post on their forum about it and none of them seem very confident in this reporter and most think he's full of it.

Seems like if those were top 3 then Johnson is the top candidate. Otherwise, you'd think they would have already gotten one of the other two since their seasons ended earlier. Johnson just finished Monday, so makes sense that they haven't had time to solidify things with him.
