Low carb diets

10s of thousands of years ago, there were these things available:

animals
leafy veggies
fruits - in non-tropical climates, only available/edible before winter...perfect to help store a little fat before the long winter
seeds/nuts
some tubers

the exact DNA makeup of these things isn't really the point. It's what wasn't in the diet that is the point. of course, there were geographical differences in diets.

Basically, and I suspect we'll agree on this point....it's really all about controlling your blood sugar. The original thread was about low carbs. Carbs are what spikes insulin, although an abundance of protein can do the same thing. Keep your body sensitive to insulin, and you'll more than likely stay healthy for longer.

This is where we 100% agree. I just think the paleo stuff masks and complicates this very simple truth. Just eat fewer carbs and fewer processed foods; that is good enough for 99% of the population. So yeah, I get the appeal of paleo and I think it is *basically* correct, I just think it takes a generality and applies half truths and implications which are off putting in a lot of respects

Transy you're simply arguing semantics and you know it.

Just being obstinate, contrarian, insufferable as you've always been. Back to ignore.

Eating fewer carbs is NOT the same thing as chasing some pie in the sky recreation of a diet that likely never existed and couldn't be done today even if we tried. SEMANTICS!!!!

Just being whiny and thin skinned like always. I remember last time you got upset about me critiquing the paleo diet. Jesus christ, dude get over yourself. You get pissed because someone (on the internet) said you have a good diet with SOME flaws.

I can't believe someone is so sensitive about their diet. And not even sensitive to someone ripping it to shreds, just pointing our a few key things that don't wash IMO

Actually even athletes can have a wheat belly if they aren't eating the correct foods.

I'll check on the book. I haven't found it since we moved, but I know where to find the info.

KYLady, what book is that you reference? A friend's daughter was recently diagnosed.

The book is called Dr. Bernstein's Diabetes Solution: The complete guide to achieving normal blood sugars. Richard K Bernstein author

It was actually an interesting read. Sorry to hear about your friend's daughter.

A coworker lost 100 pounds in 8 months doing something called the "ideal protein" diet.

It's pretty touching intense in that it's both low calorie AND low carb, but then again it obviously works.

this diet works. i eat about 4k calories a day (mainly because im hungry all the time). i run 4mi and bike 10mi five days a week.
