Opts out of Sun bowl.
Because it makes more money, provides more advertisement for your programs and allows very important extra practices that can build your program. Bowls aren’t obsolete to a football program, what we should say is now that we have NIL, they are obsolete to the top players unless it helps their pro stock. Unless it’s a meaningful bowl, imo, teams should play as you’re preparing for the future. Of course there are examples were a win can help build stock if you are a struggling program. People get upset, but I get why elite prospects would sat out games like the Sun bowl. Bowls have always been meaningless unless they are one of the elite bowls and more about building the program for the future. Bowls have always largely been more about a reward for the team and fans and making more money. The players are now weighing the risk vs the reward and while many old school fans hate it, the teammates and coaches largely support those who opt out. The reality is there has always been a gap between how much the teams care vs how much the fans care. The landscape we are in now just exposes it. It’s a business and there is no loyalty in it on any front. Schools, coaches, agents, all put their importance first, why shouldn’t a player? It’s no different than us walking into our jobs and saying I’m leaving for a new gig. Most just don’t want to see it as a businessBowls are now obsolete. If you aren't in the playoff no one cares. Why would the ncaa setup such a stupid system?
Didn’t you guys accept a bowl bid at 4-6 a few years ago? It’s about the young players getting more practice. In a season when the UL faithful believes they should have made the playoffs, playing a 6-6 Washington team in a bowl must be a real downer. With your QB, why go to that bowl? Without your QB, making that trip seems like a waste of money.

I’m saying that it is about the practice time, regardless of the competition.No.
Nevertheless, your comparison is stupid. Are you comparing UL to a four win UK team? LOL!
Are you going to the bowl?
UK will never compete for a playoff spot, maybe once in 50 years if it expands to 16. The demise of the bowls takes away any good feeling potential for this fb program. I think they should require players to finish the seasons out including the bowls.Because it makes more money, provides more advertisement for your programs and allows very important extra practices that can build your program. The NCAA should use existing bowls for playoffs. They could use 15 existing bowls for playoffs. Then have 4 more bowls Sugar, Cotton, Rose, Fiesta for top 8 teams that missed playoffs. That is 19 bowls in total. Do away with rest.Bowls are now obsolete. If you aren't in the playoff no one cares. Why would the ncaa setup such a stupid system?

If games were played without fans, I see your point. But, think of the fans who paid $ to go see their team all year and now, plan a bowl trip only to see the star players sit.In a season when the UL faithful believes they should have made the playoffs, playing a 6-6 Washington team in a bowl must be a real downer. When Levis and Rodriguez sat a couple years ago and that offense looked almost as bad as ours this year and lost 21-0, I’d say many UK fans who went were probably unhappy.
With this new nil/portal junk, the fans are screwed. The players demand to get paid, many before they take the first snap, have no allegiance to the school, then sit out when a non playoff bowl game comes. Not a good situation.
MONEY,MONEY,MONEYBowls are now obsolete. If you aren't in the playoff no one cares. Why would the ncaa setup such a stupid system?
Not like now and I’m also pointing out how nil and the portal make it convenient for players to quit on a team during any time of the year.As you note, players skipped bowl games before NIL drove college sports.
Gotta agree with @rockycard on this one. There are at least 3 separate topics I see regarding this topic.
1) The bowl matchup is terrible for UL. I don't think anyone disagrees with this statement regardless of what team you support. On this note, I think it points to how bowls view the ACC.
2) Bowls will never go away and are not a waste of time or money for what's already been mentioned above. The television revenue, publicity, etc ... will always be important regardless if the stadium is half-empty and you're playing at 11 AM or 11 PM.
3) The extra practice is HUGE, especially in this time of transfer/NIL. Brohm would've probably preferred playing his backup QB (I have no clue who it is) regardless of what his starting QB decided. The opt out made it easy for Brohm and guarantees someone else gets all the practice and game reps. Whereas I do agree the game is a total waste for most fans, it definitely benefits the football team and university.
I'd take a free bowl handout to play a MAC school just so Boley, young linemen, and returning receivers could get the extra practice and game reps.
The guy parlayed a great year into potential NFL career. I don’t blame him a bit. And these bowl games are going to become a watered down bowl of shit as the playoff move forward.
Players are being paid to play.
Unless injured they should be playing as they are paid to do.
Imagine calling your boss and telling him I'm not working today, I might get hurt.
But pay me anyway. 😂
He's on scholarship right. I know that much. What kind of agreement does the QB have with UL? He is not an employee, so that analogy fails. Unless you know the agreement, you don’t know anything.

Only high draft picks sat. Whoever from Louisville didn’t opt out.As you note, players skipped bowl games before NIL drove college sports.

They won’t unless they break out of that mold of thinking but my point is, it’s. A business and it doesn’t need fan happiness to make money so leaving a money making conference isn’t gonna happen. Fans are irrational, we will watch, we will attend and we will spend money on the team no matter whatUK will never compete for a playoff spot, maybe once in 50 years if it expands to 16. Ours opted out before the Southern Miss game.Opts out of Sun bowl.
Fan happiness is most of what matters. They buy the tickets and concessions and donate, I don't think you get as much of a buy in from them going forward. Going to look jokeresque. They won’t unless they break out of that mold of thinking but my point is, it’s. If you are paid to play then you should have to play. Should be no opt out. Or forfeit 10% of your NIL monies. Maybe more.Because it makes more money, provides more advertisement for your programs and allows very important extra practices that can build your program.
