Louisville game

I agree but Cal is not an X and O whiz. Not a great game manager but he looks amazing compared to this.
C’mon now. Cal is the winningest active College basketball coach and a hall of famer. That’s just a silly statement comparing him to Kenny Payne.

They aren't going to get a brand name coach unless he is severely flawed

One coach I'd consider is that guy from Wichita St with the drunk wife. He would probably coach there for 2 cheeseburgers and a bottle of Evan Williams
Gregg Marshall has lots of flaws but he could coach circles around Payne.

Payne should've been turned after last season. Louisville will get someone to bite on this as a P5 job but not the slam dunk they may want.

I think UL has the money ready to be done with Payne. They were hoping it wouldn’t be this bad so they could hang on for a lesser buyout at a later time. It’s gotta happen now though.

Come on UofL, get your $#** together and make the call. CTC can cure all your ills...

Never gets old. When CTC turns them down, maybe they can give CAM a call lol

I was saying that Kenny made him look like Coach K in comparison, that’s the weakest part of Cal as everyone knows. He’s obviously 200 times the Head coach Kenny is

Cal is Top 15 in all time wins in the sport, he’s an elite, but at times stubborn, coach. Payne is a quality career assistant that has no business leading a program.
Hell a trained monkey would have more wins than Cal if he coached the same talent.

Not even sure Louisville could attract a decent coach with a track record. Not sure they have the money to either. Downward spiral
With the portal almost any decent Coach would have them over .500 next year. The portal allows teams to turn around programs alot quicker than before.

I don’t think he survives the month of December. Curious as to who they are able to get to replace him.

It’s sad how awful it’s been during his time there. I do smile at how bad the Louisville program has become.
Couple that with a 5th loss in a row to UK in football this year and you have medical specialists, Pharmacists, social workers, and the police working around the clock to handle all of the UL fans running to the bridges across the Ohio to either jump or cross into Indiana. Although that would not be much of a step up, Hoosier fans have at least had quite a few years now to accept it and are heavily medicated enough not to know the difference. Yeah, I know, IU is 7-2 right now, but give them time. It is still early. Plus, As I said, they are so heavily medicated now that they really don't know the difference.

I never expected UL to be NC contenders but I thought KP would at least have UL above .500 and headed in the right way. Hate this for KP, but love seeing UL an absolute mess. 😆

The announcers were ripping their lack of effort on defense and selfish play. They used the word "embarrassing" many times. It has to be truly painful and sickening for their fans to endure beat-downs by Mid Majors that have fewer wins than they have. The conference season promises even more torture.

the justification for firing Payne now as opposed to the end of the season is if you keep him until the end of the season, the NIL money is gone, players are gone, a new coach won't be able to convince enough players to come there and you burn an entire season watching him struggle with a group of scrubs while fan interest is temporary once they realize this guy isn't going to turn them into Kentucky circa 2009

but if you replace Payne , ideally with a permanent replacement mid season, he at least has the chance to get the team to .500, show drastic improvement in effort and fundamentals , retain players for next year, get fans excited enough to generate some NIL money and can use the transfer portal to bring in 2-4 key players that can compete in the ACC the following year.

Hiring a replacement coach mid season means that you won't get a quality coach who is at a school, so that's the big risk - meaning no Chris Beard. You pull the trigger on Payne, you better have a guy in mind, even if you truly believe anyone would be better at this point

Remember, fans were elated with Pitino going .500 his first year at UK.
This is worse than that.

UL should have wont he Texas and Indiana games. You know they will be fired up for the UK game. I wouldn't be surprised at all if that game is WAY closer than most think.

I watched the last half of the UL game last night and I was shocked just how bad UL looked on defense. The other team was scoring at will driving to the basket. I think a good HS team could give them all they wanted or maybe even beat them. It was fun to see UL being that bad. Going to be interesting to see what happen if they do fire Payne.

Remember when many of you posting in this very thread were yelling from the roof tops that Kenny Payne was the reason Cal had had the success that he did when he was here with us?

You remember that?

Just checking.

Never in my wildest dreams did I think Payne and ul would be this bad. I didn’t think he’d set the world on fire there, but at least serve as a bridge coach who could calm the program down. It’s literally worse with him coaching there right now.

After the game, I asked him the main question that is on my mind. After seeing the team's record fall to 4-6 on the season, and his record to 8-34, is he at all concerned about his job security? Is that something he is thinking about?

"No, not really," he said. "If I lived my life not being true to myself, I probably would. But I live my life in faith. I live my life knowing that, to be honest with you, am I doing right by these young people? And every single day, I question that. And what I mean by question it is, when the day is over, did I cheat Skyy Clark? Nine out of 10 days? No. Did I cheat Tre White? No. Did I cheat Brandon? No. I live my life that way. Not worrying about the outside. Hopefully that answers the question."

Pitino had that team playing hard and it was an exciting type of ball. We could see that it wasn't lack of coaching but lack of talent and that could be fixed quickly. U6 situation is much different.

UL is lack of coaching and lack of talent. Heck, might as well throw lack of morals in there as well. They are a complete dumpster fire!

The interim would be Manning

actually I think its exactly what you described - we aren't talking about Payne, we're talking about his replacement
