Losing Kennard, not only got us Murray, but likely kept him from going to Duke

I think much of it had to do with signing Matthews.He was very highly rated at that time and I think it bothered Luke so he looked more to Duke.
Kennard is a good ball player. He may very well fit Duke better.
Fans accusing him and his family of not being UK fans don't know anything, they are simply mad. Choosing the right school is difficult, we have many players that grew up liking other teams that chose us for different reasons than their youthful fandom.

I simply hope Kennard is a bust. It won't change. The difference in me and some of the PC soldiers, is they believe it too, they just won't say it. When he's playing next year they will pray for every one of his shots to fail. That would make him a bust.

Wishing dramatic ill will on a kid is immature, doing it in public and claiming you are a high school bball coach doesn't make much sense.

I have two thoughts on this thread.
1. We would've taken Kennard in a second - glad we got Murray.
2. We also lost Newman - but gained Murray and Mulder - that's a "net gain".

Maybe he's scared? UK isn't for everybody, and that includes players who will chose Duke. We load up, and if you aren't prepared, you can get your chit taken. The game doesn't lend itself to "PC" madness.

I think there's a difference between wishing Kennard the best and not wanting Duke to succeed. He could still have a great season, career and not go on to win a title at Duke.

So it's not polite to wish a Duke player misses his shots, and doesn't perform to expectations, and if you do, you're "butthurt"? We are not allowed to wish a player bricks now, because that would be rude? You're a peach.

I don't think we need to wish any kid does great.
In fact like a poster mentioned, them choosing a different school and their draft stock falling might help us, maybe.
But saying a kid was never really a fan is dumb, if kids only went to schools they grew up liking the landscape of bball would be totally different.
And wishing crazy ill will doesn't make sense to me.

First off, you know I love ya and agree 90% of the time.
But you kind of went Johnny24 or whatever his name is overboard.
And yes, I have been around way more high school bball coaches than most on here, even you. And I would be shocked if any of them stated what you did on a public message board.
Of course you are butthurt, we all are, kid is a great shooter, but I see why he chose Duke, in fact we all do that watch college ball a lot.

I'm enjoying a nice long weekend and talking to my fellow UK fans on my favorite UK message board about how much I'm allowed to hope Kennard is a bust. You can word it however you want so it feels better, but thats what we are doing.

Maybe you are right. Maybe I am just old and have kids that have had to choose the colleges they currently attend. Maybe my years of experience in reporting on recruiting and meeting hundreds of kids being recruited has softened me up.
S&C, if your head coach talks like that you need another team to be an assistant for. Not sure what PC soldiers are but I do know about being a mature poster. Kennard went somewhere else, for me, he is a forgotten player, no hatred no wishing that he has a horrible life, just nothing. I only remember players that come to UK, the others just leave my thought process. Plus anger raises my blood pressure.

It's just simple man. I don't want him to be as advertised. I'm not a fan of his, or Duke. I don't like Duke players, even after they're gone. Especially one that is a UK guy to begin with. Why are you relating this to your own life? He's not your kid, and you don't know him. I don't coach him. He's just another Dukie man.
There's a few of you who are playing this card now but when the TV comes on and you're watching Duke play, you will be hoping every single one of his shots brick. There's no difference here, except I'm willing to admit now that I hope it happens.

Ha, I only volunteer in summer time basketball because I enjoy it. Memphis has some incredible basketball players in and out of the city during the summer.
I understand it bothers a small segment of the UK fan base that another UK fan hopes Luke Kennard is a bust. I worded it too harshly for some of you, and I sincerely apologize. Luke Kennard will be great someday I'm sure.

Murray for Kennard is good for one year but a 1-year Murray for a 4-year Kennard is not a good deal. I will never root for a Duke win against anyone, anytime, ever. Luke Kennard has NEVER been true-blue. Wish him no ill-will but neither do I wish him success; not that our wishes have any effect on anyone.
Almost totally agree, but again, you do not know enough to question his fandom. If his parents say they were always UK fans and he grew up a UK fan with all that memorabilia in his bedroom who are we to call them liars?
I think he is a great ball player and looked at his college decision as one that will effect his entire life, which it will. The same reason almost every one of our recruits choose us.
He may have thought he could showcase his skills better in Duke's scheme, I can see that. I also think he could have been great here as well.

As far as the other posters go...... I guess we have most all our posters here have never played competitive ball before.
You guys will be shocked on how cut throat the game is, players will try and hurt you, coaches will try and chit on you even ur own coach if you show him up or something of that nature.
With ur team it's us against the world and were going Into battle and you take no prisoners. You inflict your will upon them, break them down into distraught broken conscripts, make them bow and grovel at your feet and take their women and use them at ur pleasure if you want.
That's how it is on the court, the higher up you go the bigger the stakes and more ruthless it becomes.
Why do you think Cal has to fight through negative recruiting for? Think other teams aren't coming at you a swinging?
Here is my feeling on the Kennard/Murray thing. Some might not like this thought process. If Murray is part of a special season this year, then 100% it will be the best get. In the short term, it's a home run. We know he is here for 1 year. I have a feeling Kennard is in it for 3 or 4 years. If this season does not end up being a special season and Murray leaves, then Kennard might possiibly be the better get of the 2.
I think we got the better overall player so i'm not too upset about the dukey going elsewhere. I can't imagine any Kentucky fan growing up deciding to play ball at duke. I understand the education part duke offers, but if he were looking for the best education possible, he could have went elsewhere and got a great education. Again, i'll never understand how a big blue fan could go to duke and i don't guess i ever will. In the end, maybe Kennard plays college ball longer than Murray, but i want the best possible player at Kentucky. If that means they leave after just one year, that's okay too. Watching Murray light up the best players in the country all star game after another, we got a baller.
