Looks like Cheick Diallo is out of the rotation at Kansas.

What the heck are you watching our D stinks. We don't have one guard that can keep their man in front of them our PF can't guard anybody, and our C can't block a shot to save his life.

This is one of Bill's worst defensive teams ever!;)

Maybe this will make a few kids look at kids like Newman and Diallo and realize they don't want to make a mistake like they did. You know in all honesty, Diallo wouldn't be playing that much more here, but its good if people perceive it that way. I'd still bet Diallo wish's he had came here. See you next year Cheick!!! You and Bragg may get your shot next year. Don't be another Cliff Alexander.

“I know what our players that play the majority of the minutes feel the most comfortable with. We’ve had open dialogue about that,” Self added of last Friday’s meeting with Ellis, Wayne Selden, Jr., Devonté Graham and Frank Mason III. “I know that it isn’t sometimes the most popular thing to do with some people or some fans who feel like they understand. The reality is it’s not about the individuals. It’s about who plays best with those individuals. That’s basically where we were coming from. I felt experience the last two games gave us the best chance to win.”

After reading a few KU message boards I can see where he is going with this line. They are chomping at the bit to see Diallo and Bragg to get more playing time. They can't be happy with this quote. [roll]

EDIT: By the way, I what is Diallo's problem? I haven't heard anything about him and I don't watch KU games. I thought he was a 5 star and was a target of ours, is this Self not developing him? Is he further behind than Skal? What's his issue?

I bet Cal tells kids he's recruiting "Look what happened with Cliff Alexander, and now Diallo" If they'd been here they would have been/be 1st rounders. Bet he told Bolden something pretty similar.

Diallo was an idiot for picking KU. In addition to all of the reasons why Self sucks, Bragg had already committed when Diallo picked Kansas.

Dumb. Ass.

Wow..i just get amazed when ku fans still keep on making these kind of comments. I've already heard multiple fans make similar comments like "at this point, even if we share the big 12 conference championship, i'll consider this season a success"..

Really, if that's the case, then we might as well call ourselves KSU. We're KU..our bar should be the National Championship. I don't give 2 $hits about the streak. Its clear that since the fans have this mentality, so does the coaching staff and guess what- more early tourney flameouts. but hey, keep bragging about the streak.

Some of them get it...

What a crappy year for the dude. Had to sit out the start of the season, as the NCAA dragged its feet to make a decision. All while Self and the media were campaigning for him to be cleared. Once he gets cleared he hardly plays any minutes and is now basically a practice player.

Maybe they just want to make sure that dude they have coming in next year isn't scared off. Lightfoot or whatever he's a top player ranked in the 80s.

By the way, I what is Diallo's problem?

He's got a huge problem.. being a promising freshman recruit on a team that has zero incoming talent next year, getting beat out in recruiting by the likes of Havard. He's too good to lose.

It's that simple. The cupboard is bare, so you're going to preserve what you have the best way you can.

Kansas sure is going to be fun to watch the next 2-3 years.

When people ask "what does a player's first program even mean?" show them this, so they can see the exact opposite. Love or hate UK, we DO NOT sabotage a kid's chances at getting paid to play basketball.

EDIT: even more mind boggling, Taylor and Lucas are actively bad. Not just like, tread water type veterans. They are actively hurting their team's chances many times.

How can Self even recruit top talent with his track record? He and Pitino can take a 5 star and turn them into a 3 star. Speaking of Self and recruits...wth ever happened to the great Josh Selby?

Totally agree with you on this one. Watching their game Monday, I was speechless with how little value they provide to their team. Kansas would've been better off playing 3 vs. 5 as opposed to letting those 2 play.

Any Kansas fan that says they aren't worried about the future is lying. Flat out.

They can barely get non-tainted recruits as is, they have a few departures coming this season, maybe more, and they have nothing coming in for the next two years so far. Self and the school certainly aren't showing recruits what they'd like to see. They will be putrid next year unless they grab some 5th year transfers, and that STILL means they needs to come on strong for the 2017 class, to get back to the level they once were.

Not to mention, all this on Self's plate. Knowing how bleak the near-future is, you have to wonder if he's thinking about pulling the rip-cord soon. He might not make it through 2017 anyways.

Sounds a little like the Skal situation here. Not every Freshman is NBA ready no matter how well they played in High School.

Some of those comments remind me of ours when things aren't going right, LOL
But whereas most of us just vent temporary frustration, knowing that some way, some how, the ship will be righted - KU fans have no such assurances.
And before our resident KU visitors try to compare Skal to Diallo - remember this: Skal got his chance, indeed, he got multiple chances, and he will still be played in the right situation. Diallo never got a chance to play through mistakes, or even be out there long enough to learn anything at all.

Is it bad that, because of this, I feel a little better about our game against them Saturday?

It's absolutely wild, and the fans SHOULD be insanely upset. As I saw one say, "better to lose with someone who might do something in March than also lose with guys who you know won't do anything in March."

I'm no expert on Diallo, but there is no question he's at least similar to some of the other highly rated big men in this particular class. Truth is, the entire class just wasn't great. Now he's probably like Skal in that he has good talent and potential, and he will likely develop into a solid player, but he's just not there.

Not starting the season with the team and having to sit multiple games didn't help him, either. It hurt his chemistry with the team. So now you've got a team that has learned to win without him, but then you're trying to insert a guy who you think might deserve starters' minutes into the mix. If he were just another freshman, it wouldn't matter as much. As it is, the team is thrown off its rhythm in a big way and the guys who were playing those minutes are mad. It's a mess.

Of course, the bottom line here is what will hurt Kansas recruiting. Opposing coaches will say Self abandoned this kid. Recruits will see the situation and wonder about it happening to them. But hey, that's not hurting UK at all. I do feel for the kid, and even Self a little bit here. He's not in an easy situation here. I wouldn't want to have to make that decision. Win now or recruit better tomorrow? Better him than me!

Imagine Skal.......

He'd go from our 8 minutes a game to back in high school if that's possible.
Skal is the one reason I'm not completely bashing Self. Skal hasn't panned out quite like we thought and hoped. That can happen (it seems to happen more at Kansas tho).

With that said, it isn't like Skal hasn't been given every opportunity to succeed. He was averaging 22 mpg over the first 10 games. And that included 4 games in which he was severely limited by foul trouble. Over the last 9 games he has still averaged 12.3 mpg as he has been moved to a reserve role, and when he is producing he stays in the game longer (see, Arkansas).

I'll be clear, I don't watch a lot of Kansas games so I'm not sure what Diallo has looked like in games. He has only played in 15 games. Before conference play he averaged 10.7 mpg. He was limited by fouls twice, although both of those games also saw some of his largest playing time. In conference Diallo is getting a whopping 7 mpg including one DNP-CD.
