They were ranked the #2 team in the country, but beat #1 ranked Montverde Academy here at the City of Palms. I’ve never seen a high school team play anything like Chino Hills. Paul Westhead’s old Loyola Marymount may be the closest I’ve seen to Chino Hills’ style. With 3 Ball brothers leading the team, Lonzo is the straw that stirs the drink. The team has no conscious about shooting 3’s at any point of the game. Most defensive rebounds turn into a length of the court fast break pass. In his 4 games, Lonzo hit 32 of 76 shots (42%) which included 12 of 41 3’s (29%). He averaged 21 points, 8 rebounds, 10 assists, 6 turnovers, 2 blocks, and 4.5 steals per game. Lonzo a quick first step to the basket off the dribble, Has a side-to-side move like Curry that frees up his 3 from anywhere over the half-court line. Sees the court and makes great short passes to open teammates. With his long arms and anticipation he gets lots of deflections and steals of the opponents’ passes. Never changes his expression. Make a note to catch Chino Hills on ESPNU in January on the MLK Holiday.
