Lil Brother Loses the 2013 Title

I'll believe the banner coming down when I see it, I just hope the punishment's enough to set them back for at least a season or two. Seeing as if the roles were revered and UK was found guilty of the exact same charges, your average UofL fan would be calling for nothing less than the death penalty.

Which is ridiculous, but still accountable. A quick browse on ESPN (or any other sports network site) can easily determine that.
If you think about it, it kind of makes sense. The NCAA is determining player eligibility, not revoking banners. This is their way of putting the admission on UofL to admit the banner is not legit.

Was hoping they would get squirted to the ceiling! At least they squirted half way up the way if the banner comes down then it hits the ceiling.

Seriously??? Could the NCAA not have already determined which players were ineligible?? What a crock of shit! They're just giving Louisville a second chance to keep their tainted title.

kind of like letting OJ try on the gloves.

I honestly don't think it's the way people are framing it. They are not going to let the school cherry pick games so they can keep their banner. They didn't let Memphis do that. He was the only person at issue in that case. There must be a legal, procedural reason for doing it this way, and the tone of the person in this teleconference didn't sound like the NCAA was in a mood to let them skate.

I don't think it will come down. I am just skeptical.

UL has 45 days to inform NCAA which ineligible players participated in the games.
They don't even have to have played in the title because if they played in games that led to them having a higher seed than they would have had, the tournament is flawed at that point. Every game they played in the tourney and every team they played would have been different had their regular season record been different. Who's to say that they wouldn't have had several "bad losses" without the ineligible players in the lineup that would have dropped their seeding or even kept them OUT of the tourney. I think the banner is gone.

The interesting thing is that they are arguing that the collective penalties are excessive, so the NCAA could very easily reduce the years of probation, reduce the amount of funds lost, or reduce the lost scholarships, while still keep the vacation ruling, which I think is the most likely result (other than all of the penalties remaining intact).

OR the NCAA already knows the names, who played in what games and what their penalties they are giving. They are just giving Louisville one last chance to admit what is already known. Knowing UL, they will get their spin team on this and try to minimize it even more. Then plead ignorance and the fan base will cry when the NCAA comes back again saying they didn't cooperate.

Nope. If LilBrothel must admit that a player is ineligible ITSELF then it keeps the NCAA out of court. It is fairly clear who received the benefits....and three played in the championship. Its pretty much a formality that the NCAA is forcing UofL to do to itself.

This is one of the best collections of words I have read regarding a sports team in all my years. Take directly from the NCAA report.

"Any public reference to these vacated contests shall be removed from athletics department stationery, banners displayed in public areas and any other forum in which they may appear. Any trophies or other team awards attributable to the vacated contests shall be returned to the Association."

So, not only does UofL have to pull the banner down, they have to ship the trophy back to Indianapolis. I love it.
