The Bearded Seale at the corner of Woodland and Euclid was a blast until the Feds shut it down because they were trafficking cocaine.
Oh yeah! And don't forget the elephant. LOL
VH - Remember when Thornberry's would send you a card, with a key in it for your birthday, and you'd take the key up there and they'd get a present out of the Treasure Chest and give it to you?
I forgot all about that joint.Same fate as The Brass Ass on Richmond Rd.
You could order a pitcher of LIT's at the bar, and buy an 8-ball in the bathroom. 🤣
I tell ya, restaurant workers are a different breed, love to party. The night didn’t get started till 1-2am, and that’s after drinking at work. One night I woke up two counties over.I worked there also. Waited tables there maybe 93-94. The crew that worked there loved to party.
I chipped my front tooth at Southland Bowling. Another memory of that place was the evening of April 3, 1974. After baseball practice at Southland Park, it was off to Southland for my mom's bowling league. I remember my dad coming to get us because of the storm. I ate plenty greasy food there. There was an arcade across the street from Godfather's too. Of course, nothing beat Tony's arcade in Crossroads Shopping Center.
Dive Bar: The Rebel Room at Southland Bowling Lanes. It was pure class in there. LOL
Did we go to school with him? That name is familiar to me.I was skateboarding on that Hobie, in Jeff Gibson's empty pool over in Stonewall, caught hanger on the edge, and my upper teeth braces were driven THROUGH my upper lip. My Dad had to use needle nose pliers to free it. And then, he poured every kid's worst nightmare, Merthiolate on my mouth. I had a pink goatee for 2 weeks. 🤣 🤣 🤣
They probably bowled in the same league(s)He went to Stonewall Elementary, but he was at JCM with us.
My Mom bowled in a league at Southland Lanes too. As did I, when I was a kid. And the food was great there.
My Dad was helping pump water out of our church (Southern Hills) that night. I remember my sister crying in the basement (she and I, and my Mom) were hunkered down there, and she went ballistic because I was laughing at her. She thought we were going to die. I'm like, were in a basement, in a Bedford stone ranch, it would take a Cat 5 Hurricane to take that thing out. LOL
Yeah, I remember my dad sitting in his truck listening to the radio getting reports on the storm. My Dad was helping pump water out of our church (Southern Hills) that night. I remember my sister crying in the basement (she and I, and my Mom) were hunkered down there, and she went ballistic because I was laughing at her. She thought we were going to die. That was THE place where my in-laws would go every Friday night. When we started dating, I was there a lot. We/I didn’t drink at the time, and they did, so it was a good hour of sitting there while they had a couple cocktails. I mostly remembered being hungry. My Friend's and Co. era, which I refer to as "the dark times" I was recently divorced, and living in Creekside Apartments, RIGHT NEXT TO IT. LOL I could have thrown a nickel from my balcony and hit the front door.
Wife and I ran the Santa Claus stand at Turfland one year. Our ‘office’ space was the emptied out Blue Boar. It smelled exactly the same, even after being closed for 5+ years. The Blue Boar (in Turfland Mall) LOL
My first BBQ. They had good wings, too.Red, Hot and Blue in Chevy Chase area. Had some solid BBQ.
Yes. I think it was only one Sat...maybe 2 but the parents put a quick end to that nonsense. Snow and ice was on the ground for a month.I can't remember the closest a tornado got to our neighborhood, but I'm thinking there was one out by the airport, which isn't far. I wanted to go outside and look for them, but my Mom stopped that in it's tracks.
Speaking of bad weather, I had that paper route during those two brutal winters, and the year we got all that snow, it was almost up to my waist, when I was delivering papers. LOL
Did we have to go to school on Saturday's that one year. People said we did, but I don't remember that.
He went to Stonewall Elementary, but he was at JCM with us.
My Mom bowled in a league at Southland Lanes too. As did I, when I was a kid. And the food was great there.
Jeff Gibson? Big guy with frizzy hair and guitar player?Did we go to school with him? That name is familiar to me.
That godfathers was packed on Friday nights with families.Haha yeah I almost forgot about that place. Right next to the Mr. Gatti's with the Pizza Buffet and movie projector style big screen TV. That is where the sports teams i played on as a kid would go for the post game celebration.
Another Pizza Flashback was Godfathers on Southlnd Drive. I can't imagine how many quarters I spent there on Donkey Kong or whatever video games they had there at the time
I miss their Hoppin' John.A la Lucie
Alfafas
Peppercorn Duck Club
Mr Gattis
High on Rose
I remember seeing Danvers. It was in the shadow of that ridiculous water slide .That's right. They had a bar in there called Balloons IIRC.
Anyone remember Danver's on Wilhoit Dr? Also, The Bombay Bicycle Club
There used to be a LaRosa's pizza in Lexington also. In Woodhill Shopping Center (and one on Euclid IIRC)
El Chico? There was a really good Mexican restaurant on Harrodsburg Road just off New Circle by the Fairfield and Hampton Inn. BRU Burger is there now. I can't remember the name of it but we loved eating there when we lived in Lexington.
aka - The Cheese Grater...It was in the shadow of that ridiculous water slide .
---LOL - Well, I'm 61 years old, so it's been spaced out over a LONG period of time.
"The Boy" was a convenient place at lunchtimeYep that's it!! 👍
I believe I remember the sign (I was a little guy).---
Some great memories in this topic. I'm a little older, so some of my brain functions are sporadic, but am I correct about a Lotts Sandwich Shop on Nicholasville Rd? Whatever it was, I think it was on the right as you headed towards UK's stadium from the south.
