Levis opting out

I think the proliferation of so many bowl games, transfers via the portal, and the emergence of NIL $$$ have changed the calculus a little bit on how these players make these decisions to play (or not). Not trying to argue with you, just saying I can see why there are scenarios where players may choose not to play.
I'm not sure you read my post. I agreed with Levis decision, and made fun of the hypocrites who hated this but think its ok now that Levis is going? I am saying there are scenarios for kids to not play, so? Ultimately, I have always felt its up to the player and don't care either way.

I wouldn’t play in the crappy Music City bowl either if I was in his shoes.
now this is a take, I don't agree with. For one, we are not above any bowl and every bowl is an opportunity for the program and players regardless of where its at. Two every player on the teams performance, is what got us to this bowl game, including Levis, so

I wish him the best.

I appreciate his time, here.

I hope he goes No. 1 in the draft.

And I am disappointed in his decision.

I will attend the bowl game.

Don't worry guys; Sheron is quite capable of "managing the game" and facing a pro-style passing attack minus the threat of a downfield pass will confuse our opponent so much we will dominate.

I just have a hard time with this rationale and always will. If you're going to shut it down because you're not playing in the playoff or a really good bowl, then why even bother playing out the rest of the regular season once you've been eliminated from any of those options?

I'm not speaking about Levis specifically here, just to your general point.
Because the season hasn’t ended. Let’s be honest. Nowadays many bowls are just about getting ready for next year

Will’s got to get 100% before he starts working out for the pros. It’s his future. Get that foot and shoulder fixed and be ready for the physical parts of the draft. Start working on the drills they want to see.

Can’t take a chance of prolonging or reinjuring himself. Once in a lifetime chance to get a first round draft.

If he goes high it helps UK recruit qbs and if he does well in the pros he’s the kind of h guy that will voluntarily help UK.

Man, at the beginning of the season Levis really had a chance to be my favorite player ever for UK. Still love him, and will obviously never forget the 10-3 season last year, but this does suck even if I understand it’s best for his future. This lackluster season and no bowl game places him as one of my favorites of the Stoops era, but not of all time.

Lower-level bowl games are just never going to be as exciting in today’s game. Hard to justify spending any money on them anymore. That’s partially a testament to how much our program has risen—6 years ago we’re just dying for any kind of post season play. But when players sit out and we trot out an atrocious offense? Not worth the trip for me, especially NYE in Nashville. If you’ve done NYE Nashville once or twice you know it’s just not worth the hassle again.

Our defense is going to have to score two touchdowns for us to win because our offense won’t do much without him.

I'm fine with Will not playing in this bowl game. I would actually like to see what Wade can actually do at QB. If I were the coaches I would just play both backups a half each and just let them air it out.

Tough to swallow. Definitely affects my decision on whether or not to go to the game now.
I get both sides but in the brighter side, we need to see what we have can do for next year. It's always nice to win a bowl game but we're looking to build to bigger games than MCB...

Smart decision and probably the right one. This kid played his heart out for two years at Kentucky, put everything on the table every snap he took. We were lucky he decided to put that Kentucky jersey on.

Nothing but the best of luck, Will. Wouldn’t mind in the least if he ended up the first round pick for my Carolina Panthers.

I like Levis but want nothing to do with him on the Panthers unless it’s a 3rd round pick or later. I just don’t get the NFL hype on him.

Does this mean the end of his NIL endorsements?
I think that's something companies that give endorsements should consider in their contract. "We pay you to endorse our product so if healthy we expect you to play in every game"

I cam see why he's out...but it's absurd with some of these teams where some who isn't a first rd pick sits out.

Like to see wade get some snaps along with sheron. And thank you Levis for 2 good years
I think this year was terribly disappointing .. I think Will was disappointing . Oh well. Hes out the door to chase a big draft day then onto oblivion IMO.

Didn’t stoops tell a player a couple of years ago that “we don’t do that here” and wouldn’t let him participate in team activities or am I imagining that?
The only player I ever remember opting out was Kelvin Joseph and he did it in the middle of the season and not just for the bowl game. That wasn't well received but it also isn't exactly the same thing as what Will is doing.

You thinking of Kelvin Joseph? I believe he quit on the team before the last regular season game to prepare for the draft. Found this on KSR.

During Stoops' call-in show Monday evening, the Kentucky head coach said Joseph approached him this afternoon about sitting out against South Carolina this weekend, but didn't want to officially "opt out" of the season. Instead, Stoops - who said it was "really an odd conversation" with the standout cornerback - told him he didn't feel comfortable with Joseph sticking around if he wasn't going to play. In his own words, "That's not the way we're going to do it here at Kentucky." "He came in and visited with me after my press conference today, we had a good talk," Stoops said. "Kelvin is a good young man, appreciate what he did for us. He didn't -- I don't know how to phrase it, it's really an odd conversation to be honest with you. He didn't want to opt out, but he didn't want to play this week. Didn't want to risk injury, I said, "That's understandable, but that's not how we're going to do it." I can't just have him out there standing around saying, "I'm not playing in this game." That's not a good sign. That's not the way we're going to do it here at Kentucky."

Where do y'all get this stuff? 4 or 5 guys last year entered the transfer portal after the Louisville game. Stoops still kept them on the team, brought them on the bowl trip, and a couple played.

For all he has given UK in 1 1/2 yrs Will Levis ought to be welcomed with open arms for the rest of his life everywhere at the facilities and stadium.

I am a fan of this. WL has nothing else to prove to us, nor does he owe anyone playing in the bowl game. All of those reps with the 1's will go to Sheron and Wade making the bowl practices even more valuable if 1 becomes the starter.
He does owe his Teamates !

Stoops said he hoped that Levis plays but if he don't he will be anxious to see Sheron and Wade the next few weeks. Said he tells his players that he is always going out to get better players to take their jobs. Up to them to work hard enough to keep it.

The reality of Will's situation is that Rich Scangerello probably cost WL millions of dollars in NFL money when he chose to come back for one more year at UK.

Liam Coen coached WL up from second string QB at Penn State to being on several NFL draft boards as #1 QB taken in draft and a couple had him as the #1 overall draft pick.

Playing in a complicated "savants" scheme has created problems for the O Line trying to pass protect the QB and has also made WL look indecisive, inaccurate, confused, ineffective, inefficient, and just down right bad at QB this year.

Not even counting the terrible beating he has taken on his body.

CMS keeping the O Line coach and firing the OC told me everything I needed to know about where CMS believed the problem on offense, including the OLine's inability to block a simple running play, was mostly because of RS scheme.

WL has earned a break from UK football. It has cost him a lot.

If Will were to be seriously injured playing in the Music City Bowl it would be HORRIBLE!!!

Thank you for all you have given to UK Football and I hope you are the #1 pick!!!

Was in a terrible mood this am , prob was tougher on Will than need be , But I'll say this ,, I've had questions / doubts about this turf toe thing all along . I never saw him seriously struggle to run/move .. be safe to say running backs take far more abuse than QB's , even with sacks , you know RB's get dinged up , was Will dinged up ? sure , he got smoked numerous times .... but I never saw him run like ha had a bad foot . I even ask earlier in the year " anymore know what play the Turf Toe occurred on " I got no answer . If .. If as some have claimed it was on the sack/safety in Q2 at ole Miss I call BS .. I watched him run the rest of that game , he wasnt injured . I've watched him live all year . He doesnt look like he has a bad wheel to me ... but I dont the replays people at home get . I wish him the best , I think he should play in this game , its what players on the roster do .. PLAY . You dont pick n choose what games you play in . Fire away , I'm old school .

Guess I am old school too, but I would feel a little sheepish standing on the sidelines while my teammates are trying to win a game knowing I could make a difference. Especially if I had an NIL deal, I don't like it and never will, but each to his own. I'm not going to take it personal if someone disagrees with me.

Now Crod chooses not to play ... what a crock.
If your boss screwed you over the way UK AD treated CRod by suspending him for an issue that no other school in the SEC would suspend a star player for, how much would you put yourself out for that job/boss?

That 4 game suspension was BS and cost CRod at least 2 school rushing records that he had spent his entire career building toward.

CRod was a bigger man than our AD. He could have went in the portal and played immediately for several schools but chose to stay and play.

CRod owes UK AD NOTHING, IMO.
