Levis opting out

Smart decision and probably the right one. This kid played his heart out for two years at Kentucky, put everything on the table every snap he took. We were lucky he decided to put that Kentucky jersey on.

Nothing but the best of luck, Will. Wouldn’t mind in the least if he ended up the first round pick for my Carolina Panthers.

Like to see wade get some snaps along with sheron. And thank you Levis for 2 good years
That’s how I feel. I’d honestly give them both a half game be damned. I doubt the gap between them is so different that it would have that much of an impact on the performance. But give them each a half to make their case why they should be the guy next year and some live fire reps instead of just spring competition before transferring if they get beat out by the portal guy

Anybody that sits out their bowl game shouldn’t be allowed on the sidelines. The rest of the team laid it all on the field too. You could quit in the middle of the season and say the same thing. So now players can transfer and play immediately and get paid and sit out when their teams are playing in a bowl game. Benny Snell and Josh Allen are in a class of their own, winners!!
They're not allowed on the sidelines unless they pay their own way and get a special pass from the athletics department or as some member of the media. How much more do you want from Levis? He's done nothing but lead by example since he got to campus. He's played banged up, he's been beaten, battered and bruised on the field and always came back out there. Are you forgetting him with the dislocated finger on his left hand this year. Never missed a play. How about when he injured his non-throwing shoulder and was back on the field a few minutes later? Is that your definition of a loser? Have you ever had turf-toe? I haven't but I know people that have and they say it's one of the most painful things they've ever felt and you can't even bear weight on it. But yeah, let's toss all that aside to make people like you happy and pray that our swiss cheese offensive line doesn't get him ripped to shreds.

Nonsensical thinking. One ain't got nothing to do with the other.
Not at all. IF Coen was coming and IF he'd be here by the bowl it would give Levis a reason to play. I know that's a lot of "iifin" but it would've been possible. Moot point now.

I do not disagree with Levis, I think he made the right decision. I hate it for the team and I personally wish kids would always play, but I also get these decisions in most cases. I also think he has the teams full support which is ultimately all that matters. HOWEVER, it is amazing to me to read this board today. In previous years, this board RIPPED kids when they opted out, but now that its a UK player its ok. Last year, when I defended kids making this decision, I was ran out of the chat and those particular kids were branded selfish, blah, blah, blah. But now, its ok.... lol, irrational fanhood never fails to be hilarious.

I just have a hard time with this rationale and always will. If you're going to shut it down because you're not playing in the playoff or a really good bowl, then why even bother playing out the rest of the regular season once you've been eliminated from any of those options?

I'm not speaking about Levis specifically here, just to your general point.

We may start to see some of that down the road. I think the NIL is a motivator for the regular season. These cupcake who cares bowl games are a slight step up from nfl pre-season games.

Are you his Doctor or his Dad, other players played hurt too. I never called him a loser, you calling our line Swiss cheese doesn’t sound very appreciative for a group that has laid it all on the line.

I'm sure CRod will be the next to opt out. Might not be the last either. This is what the bowl season has become in 2022 and it will probably only get worse with CFP expansion looming. When the money schools get paid to participate starts to drop and game sponsors get stingy, many of the marginal bowls will disappear.
The real problem is going to be the transfer portal. With the way the portal is set up, players have to enter prior to bowl games so that will take even more out of playing than those preparing for the draft. There will come a time when a team might lose enough to the portal that they are unable to play in the bowl.

This could be excellent news IF CMS will allow the backups to actually run the offense and lead the team instead of lining up and running every play in the A or B gap and throw behind the LOS on 3rd and 12.

Crap. What was I smoking??

Unless he is unable, I simply want him to finish his responsibilities. This is akin to quitting unless a player is injured.

Why would that give him a reason to play? Coen isn't going to coach the bowl either way. If it was to work out with Coen and get ready for the draft, he can still do that without playing in the bowl. Again, one has no impact on the other.

Apparently you failed to notice I said....IF. Like I said, point's moot now anyway.

And you failed to notice I asked why you think Coen being here had any bearing on WL playing in the bowl. I am asking you to explain why you said if in the first place since Coen wouldn't coach WL in the bowl and WL can still work out with Coen to get ready for the draft. So what is the basis for you reason to think it mattered in the first place?

Sigh, one last chance for the 2 to play together(it's been said Coen was the reason Levis came to UK). Please look up the meaning of "IF."

Coen ain't here, Levis ain't playing so it all doesn't matter.

No new assistant coach hired in early December is gonna be calling plays or doing anything responsible for a bowl game! That never happens, anywhere, anytime.

Using this choice as evidence about Coen is just crazy talk.

When things like this happen, I see the the word "kid" thrown around by those defending it. Levis is 23. You can agree or disagree with this decision but Will Levis is a grown ass man.

I wasn't planning on going this year, but if I were this news would have made it less likely. The sooner CFB gets rid of these meaningless exhibitions, the better IMO. Sitting out is only going to get more prevalent.

I'm usually not a fan of players ending their season early to focus on the pros, but after seeing our OL this year it would make zero sense for him to play in the bowl game. Go get healthy and make that bag Will Levis! I believe he has a lot to work on to be a good NFL QB, but if he's a top draft pick that will only help us in the future recruitment of top tier transfer prospects.

So we've got a banged up QB skipping a bowl game that most of our fans think is a meaningless do-over who doesn't want to get killed facing a tough defense going against our terrible O-Line and people are upset that he may want to preserve his draft stock that those same fans think is way overinflated?

I hate this nonsense. If you're injured, fine, but it's just this entitled me me me generation that see's no responsibility to teammates.
Dude literally took shots b4 and at half time of every game from OM on in his shoulder and toe id say he felt a sense of responsibility to his teammates for doing that.

Minor bowls are for suckers - if you buy a ticket for this crap you deserve whatever you get. We had a boat load out last year but for different reasons Covid - suspensions exc
Paid $100 to watch a line who couldn't block - I mean kids played their heart out but you hope to see your full team. Watching at home this year - no care if it’s a win or not
Bowl games ain’t what they used to be

I think the proliferation of so many bowl games, transfers via the portal, and the emergence of NIL $$$ have changed the calculus a little bit on how these players make these decisions to play (or not). Not trying to argue with you, just saying I can see why there are scenarios where players may choose not to play.

I wouldn’t play in the crappy Music City bowl either if I was in his shoes.
