Levis has HORRIFIC pocket presence!!!!!

I really wouldn't say he never panned out. He has some good games. But yep as of right now it looks like he's true big game was against ul and that wasn't even with his aim. We'll see what he's got against ole miss. That will tell who he is.

I thought he be running himself more this season but he's sitting back there taking a beating. Sumtimes you gotta see it collapsing and take off. He's not doing that much right now.

you’re an idiot. And you’re not even a UK fan you spend a lot of time on this troll.

Probably the same people that kept wanting Beau Allen to start over him. Either that or they are in that segment that can't be happy about anything. Levis is the #3 rated QB for next year's draft and we have a decent size group that gets on here and complains about him on a weekly basis.
Probably the same dumb ass group that complain about anything and everything football or basketball

Congrats on being the early leader for most ignorant thread of the night.
So being aware and critical of bad play is ignorant? To each their own I guess
I think they were bringing 6 on some plays, maybe even 7.

The o-line had some misses, but Levis never threw the ball away to avoid a pressure or a sack, And that’s a telling stat for a team so reliant on passing.

The o-line deserves justified criticism, but some responsibility lies with Levis and the plays called for the total sack numbers.
EXACTLY!!! But some here will crucify you if you are critical. Levis is AMAZING but he has to get better about taking negative plays.

It's not the tackles job to block a blitzing corner.
When he is not on a block and the guy rubs shoulders with him on the way to the QB then I would of least want him to push the guy off his line. Sometimes players just have to react.

I don't see anyone saying Levis is a bad qb. He just has some flaws. Can you blame some of it on the line? Sure but he also brings some of it on himself. Like I said, I don't think he's a first round draft pick from what I've seen the last 2 years but that's just my opinion. Doesn't mean he isn't a good qb.

I'd like to see him make decisions quicker. With our line you can't sit back there 4 or 5 seconds expecting not to get sacked. He's got to feel the pressure coming and throw it away or run with it. Hopefully he gets better at that as the year goes on or the offensive line improves drastically. Both would be great.

will has great physical skills , throws a flaming dart ... but I do agree he needs to mature FAST for us to get where we would like to be -- 11-1 , 10-2 instead of 9-3 ... All are great/good but we want want fans want .. almost perfection. I've watch nearly every home game live for 2 years .. Will is fantastic on hitting a open guy , great at passing when no quick change of receivers is needed , but if he has to move from 1 guy to 2 to 3 he can struggle , It will come with experience , but its kinda like our 1 year wonders on the hardwood , will be they get there in time to help us before the next league . ( I mean help us get # 9 or have a special SEC football season and make Atlanta )

Once CRod comes back there will be less pressure on Levis, because defenses will have to respect the run.
This!

All our opponents have needed to do was blitz into one or two rushing lanes, and either stuff Smoke, who could neither block the blitzer nor run over him, and they achieve pressure, without a failure by our o-line.

That’s what I saw as well. The OLine had its fair share of struggles but they were bringing a lot of guys every down. The backs and Levis has to make teams pay for that. It’s near impossible to block seven with five every play.

Think with our struggles up front Scangarello has got to reset the clock for Will on his pocket presence.
Kind of like time change coming up, he’s got to work with Will to set his internal clock back a second when going through his progressions.

i think naturally a QB wants to count to 3 once he gets to his drop as he goes through his options but he needs to cut that to a 2 count max then either dump it off or get the hell out of pocket everytime.

just nothin good going to happen after 2 in this pocket and Will has to be more aware of that.

Thought he did a good job a few times this past week sliding his feet to buy more time and hit a couple of big plays that ended up making the difference.

Is that how you played?

Never said Will was a terrible qb or that I’d rather have Malik Cunningham by any means. If all you that have commented thinking that’s what I was saying need to re-read the thread title. I was and am speaking of his pocket presence only. That said, I wouldn’t trade him for any other qb in the country this year! GO CATS!

If Levis had a solid pocket, he'd absolutely shred. He nearly was decapitated against UF.

Not to mention he doesn't know any of his receivers.

I think he'll be just fine by the end of the year. He had 5 TDs and 450 yards by himself vs TN last year. He finished the season throwing 10TDs and 4INTs and rushing for 6 TDs in the last five games of the year. Don't think that was a fluke.

Plus, he's a flat out winner. He has backpacked this team more times than we can count.

I was going to post this last week but I agree Will seems to have a narrow cone of vision and doesn’t see or feel the rush coming as well as he should.
He does not have time to read the progression of the play. Perhaps his vision is due to seeing the other teams defense in the backfield too often. We are (for this past game) in the 4th week of the regular season and he knows as well as the rest of us that the O-line cannot protect him (yet) so, his vision must be adjusted to just a narrow field (time driven). It's almost as if he has to think and play as if there is a blitz almost every down. Most coaches I believe have already seen the problems with our O-line and "bringing the house" as one poster put it looks to be the thing to do right now. I think Will has handled this well to this point.

I was thinking that same thing but, perhaps that is by design. A running quarterback takes a lot of hits too.

Just speculating but maybe the coaches want him to be more of a pocket (pro style) passer since we have the receivers and with C-Rod the ground game to support the offense for just that sort of game hoping the O-line will develop.

Yes he is. JL was great sometimes but he would make the worst decisions I've ever seen. Cost us A Florida game one year.
That is what I saw with JL too. I loved the guy, but decision making was a problem with him.

Nice recovery.

Levis is in the running to be the #1 pick. I read an article the other day that said because he plays in our pro style offense then he will be more NFL ready than most of the other QB prospects. He is our ticket to more big time QB prospects. The coach also doesn't want him taking the hits that he did last year trying to run the ball. The season could go from great to bad if he doesn't stay healthy for all the games.

JL had one good season, while playing in a pass, pass, pass offense. Levis is far better. If you can’t see the obvious, NFL scouts will open your eyes for you.
JLs only drawback was to his desire to stay in shape. By the way JL had a SB ring. He would kill it in this offense.

It all looks pretty easy on the screen.
Jesus Christ!!!!! What a SAD showing so far!!! Throw the ****ing ball Will!!!!!!

Lmao

It all looks pretty easy on the screen. I'd pay double or triple face value to the games if they'd put the negs that don't understand football into the game in place of one of the starters. Show us how it's done keyboard warriors!! Lol

1. That still wasn't our full, regular offensive scheme. It was mostly vanilla in terms of movement just with the new blocking scheme. They threw the house at us and we adjusted/responded well on offense.
2. Loved how much more physical Smoke is running the ball this year.
3. There are still things we can do to adjust to get it handled within the scheme that they haven't tried yet.
4. That was a GREAT game to get us ready for the last 2/3 of the season.
5. The only thing I'm concerned about is the way we let up on the gas at the end of the game. Should've continued to go for the jugular. We let them back into it.

I actually thought there was at least one instance where Levis did an outstanding job stepping up in the pocket. A problem is that Cox has not done a great job of setting the line. He pass blocks and gets pushed back, which means that Levis has no where to step up into, and leads to more back foot throws.

He's going to take the hits this year regardless it seems. So I would rather him run it and be prepared to be hit than be blindsided by a defensive lineman. Most qb injuries are while getting hit in the pocket I would bet. Terry Wilson being an exception here of course. I doubt defenders can pull Levis down like that with his size and the way he runs it.

The O-coordinator said he didn't want him running like he did last year. Too many hits equals a short career is what he alluded too. You are right though, QB's get injured in the pocket too.

This is a good example of his jeckyll and hyde pocket presence. This play, OL picks up the blitz nicely. Be stares down two wide open receivers. Then runs directly into a blitzer after holding the ball. This was a key 3rd down miss.

In the other clip, he perfectly slides left and unleashes a casual 60 yard throw on the money that dane key dropped.

Fans remember the awesome talent, as well they should. I think he should be the #1 overall pick. But they should also remember the obvious holes he has in his game where he lacks natural pocket presence, holds the ball too long, lacks anticipation, and isn't great at post snap reads. Good news is way better in these areas than last year and getting better still.
