We know it was a first in college basketball at least in one season so that caused me to think....
A. Who was last team in pro basketball to win 38 straight? Dont think its ever been done.

B. How about pro baseball? Anyone know?

C. How about pro football ( obviously regarding combined seasons)?

D. Hockey? I doubt it.

E. Tiddlywinks?

As you obviously understand; 38 straight wins in anything is just stupid.

You're comparing it to the pros? It's near impossible to go on a ridiculous winning streak like that in the pros. Closest was the Lakers in the 70s winning something like 29 straight (guessing on that number).

Best comparison is college spurts. Indiana's win steak when they went undefeated and then the following season. No one will come close to UCLA's win steak.

And I believe Oklahoma or Alabama has the longest win steak in football

The winning streak was amazing. Incredible to have 38-0 but it has to feel just a little hollow without a title. I know it would to me.

It was a good accomplishment to win all of those games in a row, but let's be honest, it doesn't really mean anything without the title to go along with it.

The 96 Bulls 72 wins wouldn't have meant much without the title to go along with it. The 72 Lakers 33 wins in a row would have been diminished without the title. The Patriots starting the season 18-0 didn't mean sh*t because they didn't win the Super Bowl. Anyone on that team will tell you that.

No doubt it stung not to take home #9 but it would have hurt much worse had UK lost to KU in '12 Finals.

True, but losing to a bunch of inferior basketball players still sucks great big hairy basketballs.

Connecticut women's basketball won like 80 something straight didn't they?

Yeah. But that's similar to the UCLA era when parity just wasn't the same as it is today. At least you had a couple other powerhouse programs then that they had to avoid during the tournament.

Woman's basketball is just now developing those few other strong programs to compete. For the longest time it was a one horse show.

Still impressive but it's worth noting when comparing

I fail to see how Wisc was a bunch of inferior bball players. They were the one team most people thought had the tools to beat UK. It's not like we lost to some mid major in the second rd.

The 38 wins is very impressive, but I agree its kind of null without the championship. They'll join the list of UK teams who should've won it all, but came up short. It was still a crazy season, and you can't take anything away from the team.

Two horse show with Tennessee, but right now it's a one school league Uconn.

That's not really true, they're still regarded as one of the greatest teams of all time (with the best offense ever).

In before Cut Nets joins in to inform us that that streak means absolutely nothing, and there can be no joy in anything related to BB even huge recruiting news since we didn't win it all! He'll be along in no time at all since there can't be anything positive written about last year, and he'll like all those posts saying that not winning it all nulls all the wins, lol!

If anybody's curious, the Reds' longest winning streak of the dead ball era's 14 (July 26--August 12, 1899) and the longest of the live ball era's 12 (May 16--27, 1939, and April 30--May 12, 1957).

The Reds' records in those seasons were, respectively, 83-57 (6th in the NL), 97-57 (1st in the NL, lost the World Series to the Yankees in four), and 80-74 (4th in the NL).

Here's every MLB team's longest winning streak:

Incidentally, the 1899 Cleveland Spiders finished 20--134, the worst record ever recorded in MLB history.

So the NY baseball Giants won 26 straight in 1916 and that is the most in baseball history.
38>26.

When half the schedule is ass and the conference is garbage you cannot really compare to anything else. In the pros anyone can win on a given night. im not that impressed with the 38 streak bc we are a footnote because we didn't with the championship. That's the reality. There is no banner in rupp for 38 straight with a padded schedule

We played KU, UNC, Louisville, Notre Dame, West Virginia, Cincinnati, UCLA, LSU, Arkansas twice, Texas, I will not aplogize for that schedule.... sorry charlie.

going for 9, uk played like 15 or 16 of the tourney teams before the tourney began. how is that padding the schedule?

Awesome accomplishment, but people remember champions. We were not. Any memories of our team outside of the bbn consists of us blowing it, same with the 18-1 patriots who went undefeated in the regular season, unbelievable accomplishment, but they are remembered more for the one loss then the 18 straight wins.

No one had ever won 38 straight in a single season in college basketball until 2015 UK and until someone else does it I dont want to hear ish.

I almost made it to the gas station before I ran out.
I had 5 numbers in the lottery, almost won.

38-1 was a hell of a ride. I suppose it will be an interesting sidenote for a while. I would rather have went 25-15 with a championship though. Wouldn't have mattered now if Kansas had beat us by 36 and Louisville had beat us by 40. If we had won the title, who cares?
