We are in a much better place defensively. Obviously, matching last year's offense would be nearly impossible, since it was historic from a Kentucky standpoint. A lot depends on how good Perry and Chandler turn out to be.

I forgot about Reeves, in reality he carried our team last year in terms of consistency

What I think Pope is thinking with his Guard additions is that you can put in 40%+ 3PT shooters 1-3 and just dare defenses to leave one of them open.

Kriisa can shoot 40% from 3, or he can pass it to Brea, Chandler, or Perry who also shoot 40%. Or, he can put Butler at PG (who probably starts), and put 40% from 3 at SG and SF, Andrew Carr (37%) at the 4. You keep the defense having to guard for all forty minutes of the game.

I’m with you generally but I think it’s worth mentioning that while the total offensive potential of last year is probably out of reach for us, the coaching change will have a lot to say about what we see in reality compared to that potential. A good chunk of last year’s balmy numbers came from stretches here and there where Cal was willing to run Welch’s offense. But he wasn’t willing to run that over the long haul. And I would take our guys’ offense in Pope’s system, when combined as a whole, over last year’s guys’ offense under John Calipari’s perimeter weave suicide system even with Reed and Rob and Reeves plugged into that system. In a heartbeat.

I agree. I also think that the numbers of our current player's will increase because of the offensive system and will be better defensively being surrounded by really good players.

Last season's roster was one of the best in college basketball but without a coach it didn't matter. i would have loved to have seen what a guy like Hurley or Self could have done with it.

I'm more interested in comparing this season to last season instead of the rosters.

IMO Carr is better than Thiero last year because he gives us a post up threat plus a 37% three point shooter.
Regarding the frosh a lot of people are thinking Chandler might be a decent player this year but I'm expecting that out of Perry as well. He is a very different type player than Sheppard and is better at some things than Sheppard; their only similarities are state of origin, skin color, and being deadeye shooters. But Perry is a Dude who can get his own shot in a number of ways whereas Shep was mainly a spot up shooter(or pulling up off the break).

I do believe Pope has built this roster with a couple of players that will improve greatly and be much better than last season’s numbers.
Expect Oweh and Garrison to continue to improve. I’m calling Oweh a all-SEC player right now

You employed tact in helping him.

It's kind of sad how so many people have been brainwashed at this point to think that the roster is all that matters. It matters a lot, but there's a lot more to it than just the roster.

I guess it's because for 15 years there wasn't anything more that was put into it EXCEPT the roster.

good work !

As a by-the-way kind of factoid, the idea that Pope could put together a great line=up in 2 weeks was crazy. Recruiting is a year long process. That Pope has been able to win the hearts-and-minds of these kids in 2 weeks is staggering.

Also, those players' numbers reflect the way their coaches used them. Give me a chisel and a block of marble and you get dust, Give a sculptor the same chisel and marble and you get a statue. I'm not evaluating the skill of these players' former coaches, but there's a possibility that the players and coaches didn't click or that they had more skill than they were allowed to display.

The transfer portal reminds me of the early days of eBay when you could find a great bargain or two with a little persistence and a little luck.

The proof is in the pudding, though. If Pope fields an 11 man team next year that competes well and wins most of its games, it's a triumph.
