Last night set us back 5-10 years

Maybe it was embarrassing enough for Stoops to FINALLY realize his ANTIQUATED ball control VANILLA style of play will NEVER win big games.

It should also show him when you play just to keep it close, EVERY mistake becomes MAGNIFIED because of his philosophy.

Never gone on national tv and proclaim “we are what we are” ever again. Why not just send the opposing team your GD playbook. Instead be who you need to be to win the fkn game. Came into defeated already. When the PAT was missed, the botched coverage on their first TD. All I needed to see that this was not a team prepared to compete. By far the worst game of his career here. We just laid down and let them use us like a Saturday night whore upstairs in the saloon. Never have I been more ashamed

If I felt that way I’d either stop watching the sport or find another team. Not healthy to do something you hate.

Coaching was horrible but we still lost to a team with better players on the road.
I think most fans believed we could be in these big games and possibly pull an upset over a UT or Georgia because we had Will Levis.
He's just not the transcendent player some thought him.to be.

One player can’t dominate a game. Not in football.

Nah but I do think we need to reevaluate what we're doing on offense. In another post I covered the changes we need in offensive operation so I won't rehash those.

Who do we want to be as a program on offense? Do we want to be continually hiring NFL guys and recruiting physically gifted but underperforming NFL prospects at QB in hopes of prepping them for the nfl? Or do we want great college coaches who coach great college players with a focus on winning games at UK?

Can the two be reconciled like it is for our defensive coaches and players?

Stoops is as stubborn as they come. This is the offense he wants. He won’t change a thing

It sure was the wrong game to get prime time with Chris and Herbie.
I said elsewhere that if you want proof why UK gets no national respect, I offer Sat night as Exhibit A. Every time, it seems, UK gets the chance to advance their product they figure some way to eff it up. We woke up Sunday morning with a football program closer to Vanderbilt than Georgia.

We actually had better players according to recruiting rankings.

I agree, didn’t even play and I felt like way less of a man waking up.

Plenty of“wolves closer to the sled” for CMS to address BEFORE offensive style and scheme. We’re lacking in many fundamentals.

CMS’ offense is worthy of debate, but he has won plenty of “big games” with his ball control philosophy. The problem wasn’t style; rather it was fatal flaw in OL.

NO SCHEME (from triple option to air raid) will work with a dysfunctional OL. Our run game is anemic because of our run blocking. Our Superman-built QB is injured and compromised because of our pass blocking. You have to do one facet of OL blocking well to be functional on offense. I hold OC and the complex blocking scheme as the main culprit. He needs to transition immediately to a simplified system.

Now, our defense, although the strength of the team, could use a scheme update. You gotta step out of bend-don’t-break and pressure elite QBs. If you cannot do it with the DL, you have to bring pressure from a LB or DB.

Special teams line blocking is no better than OL. We’re unreliable on FG, punts AND PATs for heaven’s sake.

Fundamentals first!

GBB!

It seemed to erase all of the past couple seasons success and left a bad picture of the whole program. He should not have said it and it was really a bad look but Cal was right about UK being a basketball school.
He shouldn't have said it and you shouldn't either. I hope we won't be seeing you on this board again. The football team doesn't need "fans" like you.

13,8,34, and 13 are UT's last 4 classes thats an avg of 16.8 so #17 is their avg.
UK's avg over last 4 classes is a 99 for an avg of 25.
17 vs. 25 in football recruiting is basically a wash so UT's coaches are getting a hell of a lot more out of their players to be ranked #2 in the nation.

Ed seriously give it a rest! Even though our political views seem to align, you really need to give the rah rah sunshine pumping a rest. If you enjoyed that debacle and feel like all is sunshine and roses then you don't know much about sports. I won't go so far as to say it "erased" all of the successes over the last few years, but fans are right to be highly critical of what they saw without your lectures.

87.73 to 87.70 in Kentuckys favor on 247. Basically a wash, yes, but they absolutely are getting more out of their players, they run a player friendly style. We run shit that’s like an advanced calculus problem to understand

Do these figures include transfers in/out?

No on everything. We weren’t set back.

Last night's game didn't set us back but pretty much shows UK is a middle of the road team that is not ever going to be Top eschlon team in the SEC. Next season is really woorisome now with who we lose and how the schedule is setup. Then Texas and OU coming to the conference with SEC realignment and possible 9 games in the SEC it going to be brutal.

2019 UT - 13 UK- 34
2020 UT -11. UK -25
2021 UT 22 UK 35

This is 247 recruiting rankings … this is composite and considered the gold standard

Put the brakes on the big-time overreaction. Herbstreit was just a guest on Full Ride on Sirius XM and he said Tennessee just made plays early and then the crowd got gong and behind them and it just snowballed. Every team has that happen to them at some point. Levis at QB simply didn't step up when he was on center stage and that was the most disappointing part for UK-- that gave them zero chance of winning. You still have a program that's come a long ways and is solid behind Mark Stoops.

I've said MANY times here that throw away 2022 for Iowa, and the Iowa and Kentucky program have huge similarities.

Both are among the two best conferences in college football. Kentucky will never be Alabama or Georgia and Iowa will never be Ohio State or Michigan. Instead, both bust their asses to win 9 or 10 every year and there's A LOT of great pride to take in that.

It's the schools who try being something they aren't that struggle most-- it's why Nebraska has always fired HCs and gets no where and everyone in the SEC trying to chase Saban is why so many good HCs for years have been fired in the SEC. Take a deep breath and have some perspective.

I would actually disagree somewhat with Herbie. Other than the quick score to Hyatt on the opening drive I didn't think the offense was clicking that well early on. Penalties killed the second possession when UT had an opportunity to go up 14-0 2 possessions into the game, and instead UK was able to score on their next possession to make it look interesting, albeit briefly. But he is certainly right that the crowd was loud and into it, which certainly pumps the home team up.

This ^ is absolutely correct. Ed being Ed as usual.

With the exception of our defense, we are a poorly coached football team.

This is due primarily to the assistant coaching turnover and not being able to deal with it. Losing the soul of the Big Blue Wall hurt bad...now we have two O-line coaches in two years and the guy we have now is very likely not up to the task. The line has been pitiful.

Losing Liam Coen has ended up being disastrous for us...Scangarello has been a huge disappointment and is also likely not up to the task. We simply whiffed in the off-season with poor hires and it's going to hurt us for a long time, probably years.

Do we even have a mother-lovin special teams coach? Our kicking game has been appalling and it's inexcusable. Absolutely inexcusable...the kicking game cost us the Ole Miss game and likely our season. Again, to be this poor that every extra point, every punt and every field goal is a damned cringworthy adventure is absolutely inexcusable.

Finally - I'm going to say it - C-Rod cost us as well. He exercised poor judgement, put himself before the team and was a huge distraction during the off-season. Major disappointment, we ended up losing the first two damned games he returns. 1-3 since he got back. C-Rod has participated in exactly one win this season. ONE WIN. He is a tough runner, but he has not been the leader we needed this season.

So, this is the first time I've really doubted Stoops in years. He had tough off-season, granted with a lot of turnover - but this team was poorly prepared to start the season and this team is mostly leaderless on the field (outside of Levis) and uncharacteristically - this team is not hungry. I don't get the feeling they are really ashamed or embarrassed by the SC debacle or the Tennessee loss. We've had some full grown men on our team over the last 4+ seasons...who do we really have now? Where is this year's Josh Allen or Lynn Bowden?

And now a potentially great season has been ruined, and doubt has now replaced hope. This team will likely lose next week at Missouri and that is a sickening thought. Remember when we were ranked 7th? Yeah, me neither.

Why are you still here?

Nobody cares, go away.

The worst part of all this is, we wasted the weapons we have.
I mean, we have the best RB in the league, maybe best RB in the country.
We wasted a damn good receiving group.
And we wasted a true NFL quaterback and we may never get another one.
It’s like Scang was sent to UK by Tennessee fans to neuter our offense. We should be running a high octane offense with a lot of passing and hard hitting runs from C-Rod.
It doesn't need to be 30 yard pass plays, just 10 yards here and there, maybe mix in some screens and long post/fly patterns.
Why not, it's not like going 3 and out is a change from what we're doing now. This is just stupid.

I don't feel it set the program back at all. Certainly it was disappointing. But before the game everyone knew UK couldn't turn the ball over and give up multiple explosive plays. UK had 3 turnovers I believe, which makes it hard to beat an inferior team. And gave up multiple explosive plays. Everyone knew UK couldn't win that way.

A rational fan ,,,, finally- this is one of the better posts I have seen. I agree with what you said, and I agree our staff needs to make adjustments and risk it for the biscuit in some cases, but our fans have been really ridiculous over the last week and really bad since the loss. If you listen to most, you'd think we were a football power or life is over as we know it
