Lamar Wilkerson enters portal

He obviously shouldered all the scoring load so some games his efficiency wasn’t great being the focus of good teams but he still got 19 against Baylor, 16 against Indiana, and 15 against Pitt. He had 19 games where he scored over 20 points with a season high of 32.

He is elite shooting with a 1.22PPP catch and shoot, he shoots over 43% from both wings with very high usage. Good passer with a 14% assist rate. 1.32PPP 85% percentile in transition scoring. 1.09PPP and 72% percentile off ball screen scoring. 81% percentile off dribble handoffs.

Seems to have the elite metrics that Pope and staff brought in for this year and it’s worked out great. He would be a fantastic pick up. His game is strong in every way we need him the way we run offense. He is great catch and shoot, great individually off ball screens, and amazing in the pick and roll as a scorer.

Damn, this dude can shoot and he makes good decisions with the ball.
Someone said Antonio Reeves earlier, I like that comparison, especially if he can pop those floaters Reeves was so good at.
It would be awesome to get this guy, or Dent, both would be crazy. Pair those 2 with Oweh and Chandler. Wow.

Some are saying that Arkansas has the lead since the kid is from there. Of course, it will require Calipari running off guys like Knox and Richmond to make it happen.
Knox and Richmond will not be "run off". Wilkerson is a Johnell Davis type player. I think, at this time, he is Arkansas bound. But who knows, money can change things.

Here's the problem: none of Arkansas' guards/wings are draftable (besides Fland).

So if they all come back -

G - Wagner - Acuff
G - Thomas - Acuff - Richmond
F - Knox - Richmond

None of those guys are returning to be role players. People say DJ is transferring, but that's outlandish to me. He's not leaving Arkansas.

Maybe Knox makes the leap? Even still, Richmond is going to want to play at least half the game (all of those guys will). So does Wilkerson come into a situation where he plays 20 to 25 minutes/game?

he would probably suffer the same fate as Davis did this year

Davis started the season injured. He is playing close to 30 minutes a game now. I dont think he is suffering. He is an integral part of that team.

Well, look at our team. We started the season with 9 players trying for those 3 positions. Robinson and Kriisa are injured but we still have 7 players. If Wilkerson goes to Arkansas, that makes six for them assuming Fland is the only one that leaves. I fail to see the problem for them.

Memphis has been tampering with Richmond pretty hard apparently so you never know

That would be a preseason top 3 team, and with Pope, that group would stay in the top 3 all season.

They would probably be our first real title contender since 2017.
I think a lot would depend on whether we can get another big who can handle and pass under pressure, allowing Pope’s system to function correctly. As long as we do that then yes, this would leverage the snot out of it.
