Cats had many rebounds that they ultimately lost, and were recovered by OSU for easy baskets...Several times CATS had the ball only to be hacked/stripped by OSU.. KY never responded with the same kind of the physicality. KY usually tries to play FOUL free..and that cost them today.

Haven't responded all year.

Huh? Anyone who blames this on officiating is an idiot. The Cats didn't make free throws and they left OSU wide open all game. The refs let both teams play a little but which was a nice change.
The other thing is UK got the benefit if the whistle all game long. We were in the bonus/double bonus long before OSU was in both halves.
Maybe if Briscoe, Lee and Poythress made their free throws we would be 10-1 right now. I mean how can you be good enough to play….. Start at this level for THIS program but only manage 39% from the line???
Don't we have like the best practice gym in the nation? USE IT GUYS.

Officiating didn't determine the outcome of the game but it is wrong to suggest that UK got the benefit of the whistle for the entire game. I lost count of the number of hip-checks and off hand pushoffs by the guards that weren't called. Game announcers commented on the missed calls several times during the game.

BS, we lost because WE sucked. I thought the refs did a great job. Like I said, we were in the bonus WAYYY before OSU was in both halves. This was not on the refs. We sucked.

Finally, a "the refs beat us" post.

We get them even when we win.

REFS didn't beat the cats, Cats beat themselves by not adjusting...if the officials are going to allow OSU to rip, hack etc...CATS should have responded likewise....instead they continued to play without fouling..

Obviously reading isn't something you do very well. What did you not understand about the officials not determining the outcome of the game? However, it is wrong to suggest that somehow UK received some unfair number of calls to their benefit. That wasn't the case and it doesn't matter how many times you post otherwise. The facts will not support your position. OSU was way more aggressive on defense so it is understandable that they were whistled more.

Catphight Mulder missed a shot and Cal never put him back in. Cal is very anal and stubborn and needs to let some other guys play through mistakes. Mulder and Willis both need to play more. Ulis got abused today by bigger and quicker guards. Cal needs to make adjustments .

Lolll. You are something else....

the only truly blown call, IMO, was the intentional on Ulis (ok, flagrant 1, whatever)
Yes, OSU pushed off quite a bit - but for the most part we got a good whistle. I can count a few times we got away with stuff, too
We lost because we didn't decide to play until it was too late - and we allowed them momentum and confidence.
Period, end of story

Mulder plays no defense, that's what got him yanked. Willis was hurt.

We are soft, we played soft. Even our strongman has weak hands.

It is what is - we are a "Finesse Team" handsome, yet delicate.

I prefer the 80's Pistons myself.

First time I had seen Ayers since, i don't know, the arkansas loss? I thought we were doomed when i saw him announced.

Didn't need a ref with an agenda to look like a train wreck.

The uninspired play was heartbreaking. Can't blame cal hating Roger for this one.

a couple years ago, I bet IU borden, the ref defender on the national board, that uk would lose the next game ayers reffed.

Too ashamed by uk's heartless first half performance, to remind him of it.

Obviously you need some help. Bottom line of my post, the refs were more than fair in this game and anyone thst tries to blame this loss on the refs is a moron. Our own guys didn't perform and OSU learned from the mistakes they made in previous games. They are a big team and really shouldn't have 5 losses but the refs did a great job today. I can't stand fans that blame refs for a loss. It's childish.

It definitely wasn't freedom of movement...... Cal prepped for freedom of movement just like he did 2 years ago and just like 2 years ago ...... that goes out the window in december and Cal takes forever to adjust. Watch, at some point probably the end of the season Cal will have them practice defense and rebounding in pads and it will make us look different.

Yep and if this continues we'll have a long season. can't understand not getting pumped up, fired up, to play a game, but these kids do not, from all indications.

agree 100%, officials revert back every year to the same ole same ole.

They revert back because there is zero accountability for them. If the rest of us fail at our jobs we are held accountable for it. These guys can make multiple mistakes and the very next week they are calling a big game. Until the NCAA decide to hold them accountable it's always going to be the same way. Start off with freedom of movement end with hand and hip checks.

I think that bothers me more than anything - they just aren't fired up

In the first half, OSU got away with multiple, moving screen/ hip-checks, nearly every possession. They were blatant. It seems the teams we play hip check on screens every game. The refs rarely ever call it. If they're gonna let that go, perhaps we should start doing it as well.

Nailed it^^^

I was watching the game, thinking: "Where's all the New Rules stuff? Looks like it's going to be a street-fight for this one."

Not that it was the whole story of today's loss... plenty of bad play, missed rebounds and FT's for that. BUT, Cal shouldn't wait until February to break out the "Tweak" approach, this time.

Forget the managers and pads.

Time to bring in Chuck Hayes, Winston Bennett, Charles Hurt, and James Lee to bump these guys.

Not one of them over 6'6 surely the kids can handle these old guys....

What the refs need to do is call fouls when they occur, which in this case, was seemingly multiple times a possession for OSU. Instead, refs influence themselves to not destroy the game with foul calls every possession (even when justified). This is what UofL has counted on for years. Foul every possession, roll with the 5-7 you get called for in the first 8 minutes and then benefit because officials are spineless little bitches that will endeavor to even up the calls over the remainder of the half.

Pointing to the foul count and saying the officiating was fair or even favored us is complete dumbassery. Would it have won us the game? Who knows, but they would have had to adjust or foul out every player within 10 minutes. Instead, OSU probably scored 30-35 points off of what under the rules of the sport would be considered gaining an illegal advantage.

It's because 95% of the refs are drawing social security. when you have refs that have been officiating their whole career under the brawlsketball rules and that career has lasted 75 years, they are going to revert to old habits. This is the biggest problem in college sports. You have elite athletes flying up and down the court and you have geriatrics officiating them.

Through 10 games. KY has shot 265 free throws, their opponents have shot 190. This whole "the refs are out to get us" should end with that stat.

To read posters complain about the other team, when Briscoe wass bumping guards all the way down the floor, KY defenders had a hand on the dribbler more often than not, Poythress was shoving players around even out by mid court without a call, and Lee regularly goes over the back on rebounds, well, it's rather amusing.

I'm not saying OSU didn't get away with things as well, but it was far, far from slanted against the cats.

This guy needs to learn to read for sure. NOBODY NOWHERE said we lost because of the refs...................NOBODY said that, NOBODY. NOT ONE person said that in the whole thread. You got that????????? Again NOBODY said it. If you think someone did, then reread what they wrote.

Troll. OSU was hacking and grabbing the whole game. It reminded me of playing Louisville. Not to mention every damn one of their guards were pushing off when they had the ball and it was not called once. Even the announcers said so. I'm not blaming them but its pure horseshit how these officials have reverted with no accountability.

Its pretty obvious you are a Louisville fan, you sound just like them.

Bev, I gotta disagree with you on this one. I am not going to go off on officiating but OSU played a physical game and when have you ever seen a men's bball game with that many held balls? I've seen that happen in the women's game but never in a men's game, that I can recall. Poy got banged under the boards and there was no call on a few of those.

OSU had a gameplan to be physical and that often works against a Freshman team. We've seen it a lot over the past several seasons. OSU was the better team. But, I would love to have a rematch in March.

Can't disagree. Mulder might turn into a reliable zone buster if he'd be given the chance to get into a rhythm.

I for one liked the way the game was called today. I can not stand to watch a game when the whistle is blown every five seconds.

I liked it too except for the fact that I felt we got hacked a lot and knocked around. If we were doing the hacking and knocking, it would have been a GREAT game!

One other point to make is this: Why did the officiating change so dramatically from the way it was being called early in the season? I thought they were going to call it close?

Glad I'm not the only one curious about that. It's almost as though they've decided to de-emphasize the point of emphasis.

as always, I respect your opinion :) - Yes they were physical, and it was working. I guess what I meant was that the was fairly evenly called , not necessarily as it should have been.
Hubby agrees with you, btw
Either way - I maintain that that's not why this team lost. Poy has been here long enough to adjust to that.

He's one of those ref apologists, incapable of critically analyzing anything in stripes. To guys like him refs have absolutely no impact on games ever. Like whatever body that oversees the refs it's easiest on his brain to just bury the head in the sand and dismiss any and all questioning.
