CMS mentioned Kobi getting more playing time and indicated he may have a bigger role against UT.

Does he have the speed and strength to cover these UT Wide receivers?

If so, could he be the X factor in defending at least one of their WR that we were overeat he'd against last year?

If Jaques Jones is not available, Bru McCoy going to be a nightmare to cover.

With Tilman coming back, we need all the speed we can get in the backfield to have a chance at an upset in Knoxville.

Hoping Kobi has a breakout game against the Vols.

Of course we will be in zone defense 99% of the time , as we should.

I am not sure about that. Hooker will pick a zone to pieces. Almost impossible to get pressure on him. Quick release, very mobile, and will run away from pressure.

We have got to be able to cover their receivers one on one with safety help over the top at least a portion of the game or we will get thumped.

CMS mentioned Kobi's cover skills and length which makes me think CMS and White may be cooking up something different than that run and hide defense we saw from the DBs last year against UT and Ms. State.

One down, one to go.

They aren't cooking anything up that includes much man coverage. You can bank on that. Bama got torched in man and so would we.

White really found something with the modified zone blitz looks that we rolled out. That's what we will use vs UT. It's a great strategy. We just need to tackle them once they make the short catch.

Playing man to man against Tennessee is suicidal. Hooker can run so a zone helps keep him from breaking long runs . Short and intermediate passes are the things Hooker is less adept at .

75 yard pass plays beat us against UT last year.....against our zone defense and 7 yard pass plays beat us against Ms. State last year also.

CMS and Brad White figured out Ms. State. Hope they can do the same for UT.

Watching UT wide receivers running right past Bama's zone defense gave me a sick feeling with that prevent zone.

We will have to have a great “tackling” game to beat Tennessee. That was the biggest difference in our win over miss. St and our loss last year. We tackled so much better. But Tennessee will be harder to tackle imo because they have better athletes . Chris Dort shit the bed last year against Tennessee. He’s gone and we’re much better at corner this year.

Bama played press man and their safety’s weren’t good enough. Man is the recipie to get beat by 60 in Knoxville have to make them drive the ball to beat you.

I think they were running passed Bama’s man-to-man coverage.

If they were beating zone defenders deep, you would not likely see what appears to be a foot race of two down the sideline, but would see receivers splitting defenders.

I agree with this, we can mix in some zone of course but they will throw between the cracks of the zone of we are just standing still and staring in the backfield. It's kind of like I am with basketball zones, I'm fine with a matchup zone where guys match up quick and cover anybody coming near their zone but most football zones have guys drop and stare and unless you're getting pressure good QB's can pick it apart. And as you mentioned in Hookers case break you down with a scramble too.

But is we play man we have to get lined up and we have to cover, cant get caught confused like last year twice. UT uses the hurry up to keep you on your heels and out of sorts and I think they score at least one touchdown a game just on that through broken coverage assignments.

Bama likes press man and wants to blitz off the corner. UT spreads you out so much it makes that almost impossible. If nobody can figure out how to stop Heupels offense he might just be in the playoffs in year two. The guy is great in creating mismatches with what you try to throw at him. His receivers get wide open. If there was some magical formula to stop him you would think that SEC coaches would of figured it out with 5.5 years of film on him..

You mean like Hyatt did on 3 of his 5 td passes. Watch the film. Split the dbs right down the middle twice.

"Volunteers head coach Josh Heupel stretched the field with his wideouts, often placing stacked formations near each sideline. Alabama’s cornerbacks and safeties were forced to the boundary and when orange jerseys motion crossed the formation, too often Tide players lost track of their matchups. It started early with Hooker targeting tight ends on angle routes, then moved onto Hyatt sprinting past safeties.
Saban said Alabama deployed a nickel defense, utilizing eight defensive backs, early on and pivoted to a dime look, or six DBs, in the second half. On some snaps, players would angle their feet perpendicular to the line of scrimmage, waiting to pass off a cutting receiver."

What team have some of yall been watching for 10 yrs?

Mark Stoops will always play zone. he wants his secondary looking back at the qb, and break on the throw in your sector. Or flood to the qb if he breaks contain and scrambles.

Spread teams like Knoxville pray for man to man. If you cover all the recievers tight, Hooker takes off - with all the corners & safeties backs turned upfield, clueless.

Yeah, sure, but wasn't C. Valentine playing on a man at UF, and at other times this season?

Has White developed the football equivalent of a box and one, letting Valentine body up when others are zone?

I read somewhere long time ago that speed was one of Albert's best attributes. But I have not seen him play so don't know if true or not.

Hooker can’t run or pass on his back. Make him even hurry up more than he wants.

I kinda hate to say it because lots of people go nuts about it but , BY FAR the most effective way to stop Heupels offense is to keep it off of the field. It sounds like a cliché but it’s absolutely the truth.

UK doesn't have the type of player that Will Anderson is and he didn't wreak havoc on Hooker. Hooker running more this year has added another level to that Offense. Timely blitzes will help but they will have to be disguised well and come from players that can get home in a hurry, if not Hooker will pick that apart too. Last year when Bama beat them, Bama's pressure started getting home in the second half. This year, it never really got home enough to affect the game.

I was out of town couldn’t watch the game UT Bama. Looked like UT got away with 2 hits to Bryce Young’s head. Just hope we get a decent whistle at UT.

We won't...sec darlings now despite the pathetic display against OM.

Only a missed fg kept Bama from winning

True enough but I bet if you asked Saban about the game, he never intended for it to be a track meet. That game plan would be playing right into the Vol's hands. I will say, if the league refs are going to allow as much holding as they do (not just the Vols), it will be tough for defenses to contain Offenses like UT's.

You mean like we did last year???
Time of possession:
UT 13:52
UK 46:08
Total yards
UT 471
UK 612
First downs
UT 17
UK 35

We dominated their @$$es all over the place......and lost by 3 on a horrible pick 6 and an incompetent ( or worse) SEC officiating crew.

The calls will be worse in Knoxville. Even Bama got screwed.

Going to take a master game plan and almost perfect execution on both sides of the ball to beat them at Knoxville.

I do believe our best chance is to run CRod down their throat and beat their defense into submission.

But CMS can't play and settle for FG in this game. Going to have to go for it all 4 downs anytime we cross the 50 yard line. Gonna have to take some risks to win this one.

Same plan as always

Play zone 5 yards off WR, always keep it front front of you, give them the short stuff. Tackle well and make them run many plays and capitalize on the mistake.

This defensive staff schemed and planned all summer long on containing a scrambling mobile QB, and aced the test in week 2 against Florida & Richardson

Totally different test next week, IMO. If you get a guy that can beat you with both, feet and arm, that’s a tough task. Josh Allen is having a very good year with the Bills because he does both well.

Please don’t don’t talk about last year’s Tennessee loss without mentioning Chris Dort. The kid played so bad that game that it appeared he was on the take. But you’re right, sometimes it’s still not enough. I really don’t see how we can win this game .

Valentine was bad also. Especially against Ms. State. Can't be any worse this year, can it??

I’m expecting it to be a worse score differential last year .
I hope you are wrong, but if we come out slow and lethargic like we typically do after a bye week, this game will be over midway through first quarter.

I hope I’m wrong too. They just seem to have too much firepower for us to match imo.

Sec network has been running a half hour special on UK season. Decent to watch it shows Judkins running his 50 yard score. When they show it a Ole Miss linemen is jerking the helmet off one of our D linemen. They miss that but call back our game winning TD. The announcers in the UT Bama game were slobbering all over UT.

You will have to ask CMS and Brad White that question.

I'm only repeating what CMS said at his Monday presser.

Could be learning the scheme since he is a true freshman.

He played last week lol
Yes. He has been getting more reps each week, which leads me to believe that learning the defense has been the only thing somewhat holding him back.

Hoping he has a breakout game against the Vols.
