Knox' father talks about why he chose UK & Bamba Friendship

Mohamed Bamba and my son Kevin have become close friends,” he told MADEHoops. “They talk every other day through social media or on the phone. I would imagine just through their own conversation and their relationship they will talk about Kevin’s decision. Bamba may ask why he decided on Kentucky and they’ll have that talk.”

This, along with his relationship with Quade, and now hanging out with the other UK recruits, I cannot imagine him choosing anywhere but UK. If he did, to me, it would be a bigger shock than Knox picking UK.

And Bamba says, 'who is this Kentucky you speak of?'

Might sound pedantic, but his dad used the word "holistic" correctly, a feat beyond the grasp of many people I've met. Also, "what he and his family want to do" would trip most people up grammatically (using "him" when a subject is called for). I love seeing guys with smart, involved dads.

Just going by interviews, between Knox, (hopefully) Bamba, Washington, and Vanderbilt, I have high hopes for some extra mature freshmen this year.

People have spent years bitching about the advantage Krzyzewski has gained through USA Basketball, but USA Basketball may be the key to all of this.

Last summer, the 18 and under team included:

Quade Green, Hamidou Diallo, PJ Washington, and Mohamed Bamba.

The 17 and under team had Knox. And Vanderbilt played with Knox on the 2015 16 and unders (he didn't play last year due to injury).

Not only does USA Basketball play the tournaments, there's also a camp every year. These guys get to know each other well, and USA Basketball is really the only place where they get to play together, instead of against each other. It's no surprise (especially since it's the trend in the NBA) that these type of team-ups happen. And the most likely destination for these level of players (as long as Cal and K are coaching) is going to be UK or Duke.

This series of events can all be traced back to Cal switching up his strategy and taking Green over Young. Apparently Knox wanted in the circle of trust with Green, Diallo, & Bamba. Cal normally doesn't change his mind on recruiting priority but that decision is proving to have MAJOR positive ramifications/ripples.

I think Diallo now returns with this outstanding team with Knox and Bamba(hopefully next) on board knowing this team will have the talent to go all the way. I have also felt good about Diallo since his Prep School Head Coach came out with his interview and said He was sure that Diallo would return to UK next season. There has also been a couple of NBA Draft Experts that have talked to Diallo about coming back to UK and having a good season and being a Lottery pick and some have said he could be a TOP 5 NBA Pick next year. Most of the 2018 NBA Mock Draft Boards have Hamidou Diallo anywhere from #10 to #14 which would be a Lottery Pick in 2018.

Bamba in and Diallo back = probably Cal's best recruiting class overall, and certainly his deepest. Unlike the 2013 class, this one would have more than one (Randle) elite NBA-level athlete without the extreme rawness of a Marcus Lee. Diallo, Bamba, Richards, Knox, and Vanderbilt all have the NBA-level fillings, and Washington isn't far behind. Green would be the seventh best NBA prospect in this class, and that's insane considering he currently projects as a high IQ NBA role player someday.

Hopefully it all comes together over the next two weeks. At any rate, it would be a great collection of talent and would they would be the story of college basketball next year.

The outstanding ESPN 30 for 30 on Coach Cal had to give Knox and his family some serious pause for reflection if their minds weren't already made up for UK. Rival coaches have to be seething with jealousy. Never in the history of UK have we competed so well against North Carolina and Duke for the "best of best" high school talent. Cal will be irreplaceable.

Which idiots on 247 or whatever site still think Bamba is going to Texas? Laughable.

Cal is just unreal. Just tells you these "experts" truly don't know all that much.

I hope you are right but I see him staying in the draft.

Funny there hasn't been one peep or even a ticker on the bottom of the page about Knox committing. If he had gone to play for rat face they would have held up the start of the derby to make the announcement!!

If Diallo comes back and Bamba comes, how does Cal avoid platooning?

Green/Alexander
Diallo/Baker
Knox/Vanderbilt
Washington/Gabriel
Bamba/Richards/SKJ/Wynyard

lets be real.....alexander and baker are not going to play much. a year or two away from contributing.

Every year except 2015 Cal has shortened the rotation down the stretch. I think you'll see all those guys early (maybe not much from Wynyard and Baker) but come February a couple will lose out with them. If Gabriel doesn't improve a lot on defense he's going to be one of them. I really like the guy but he's redundant in that lineup and he offers nothing other guys can't give, so if he's out there losing his man every other trip he wont play.
