Georgia coach Kirby Smart's father, Sonny, died Saturday morning after suffering complications from hip surgery he underwent following a fall in New Orleans before the Allstate Sugar Bowl.

Yeah, not sure how old he was, but he went to every game. I think surgery was either the morning of our game or the previous day. It was announced our board that the surgery didn't go well and he had some serious complications. I had met him years ago, but didn't know him well. It has been a bad week for Kirby.

I hadn't heard that, but a real possibility. I did find out he was 76, attended all games, so was un decent health. It was posted on UGA board he was having serious complications, but a relatively simple surgery you expect to go fine. But putting you under is always a risk.p

Awful. No procedure is without risks, but no one expects surgery for a broken hip to be fatal.

When you're 76, there's no such thing as a simple surgery. Hell, I had a coworker who had outpatient shoulder surgery and dropped dead in his kitchen a couple of days later when a blood clot broke loose. He was 50.
