Well, the game is at noon today. Most of us will be working, which could be good or bad. The good thing is that we will somewhat know pretty quickly what our fate will be. If we lose tonight I think it completely destroys all hope and chance of going to the NCAA tournament.

By the way, after the loss yesterday our RPI dropped 8 spots to 56th. We're going in the wrong direction and another loss will be crippling.

Even if they win the series...they probably need to win at least two games in the sect and I just don't see that happening.

This is one heck of a game. 0-0 in the bottom of the 6th. UK with just 2 hits and Missouri with 6. Both pitchers are dealing.

UK up 2-1 in the the top of the 9th with a runner on 1st and 2 outs.

Wow... UK gets a pickoff to end the game. UK wins 2-1 thanks to UK stringing together some hits in the bottom of the 6th. Shelby actually stole home in the bottom of the 6th to score the second run. Very interesting game.

If Henderson names anyone but Beggs the starter in the first round of the SEC tournament then he should be fired on the spot.

What a game, it took barely more than 2 hours. UK wins 2-1, with one run scoring on a steal of home. Cats pick off 3 runners, including ending the game with a pick off at 1st base of the tying run.
Beggs was tremendous today 8 shutout innings, 6 K's and 2 pick offs. Mclane for Missouri was also very good giving up 2 runs and striking out 8. Series tied at 1-1, with the rubber game tomorrow !

They play Tuesday, is that enough rest time with Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, maybe. I sort of look for them to throw Zack Logue, he was very good Tuesday at Murray State, plus no Sec team has seen him start, and he is a lefty...... interesting to see what happens !

Got in on the game late, thought it would be televised on the watch ESPN app, but guess not. Sounded like a decent crowd listening to Neil Price, good noise for a noon game.
Agree that Beggs is our best hope, he can probably go on Tuesday, maybe 6 or 7 innings, depending on how it goes. Eckstein finally got aggressive on the base paths, calling the double steal in what turned out to be the winning run against a very tough pitcher.

I don't know. That is why you have to plan for that this week. Henderson didn't do that. We very well may pitch Logue. However, our NCAA life is on the line. Logue has done well, but I think the problem you have with him is that you cannot get more than 5-6 innings out of him. He has only gone over 5 innings one time this year IIRC. So, if Logue goes out there and gives us 4-5 then you still have to pitch 4-5 innings with your bullpen. That's something we'll likely need to preserve if we're going to make a deeper run in the SEC tournament. On the other hand, Beggs can go a complete game, or go 7-8 and then you don't have to use as much of your pen. Plus, like I said, we're playing for our lives. We went up 2 spots in the RPI due to our win today (might go back down after others play), but we're in a fight to get into the NCAA tournament. We need every single win we can get.

Right now we're in a race for 8th or 9th. Either way it is pretty much a certainty that we'll be playing Alabama in the first game in the 8/9 game. Alabama beat us in the series at the Cliff, so we need to get by them and improve our RPI. This will be hard as heck considering Alabama will practically be playing a home game in the middle of the afternoon in Hoover, Alabama. At that point we will have Cody there to face the number 1 team in the tournament. We could roll the dice and pitch Logue in his first SEC start, but I think that is a scary proposition. I'd much rather pitch Beggs and make sure that we get past Alabama. Then throw Cody against MSU/Florida/Texas A&M. At that point, if by some miracle we won, then we would have to make a decision on whether we wanted to throw Brown or Logue. Brown would be the logical choice, but he has struggled. You could possibly start him and then yank him for Logue at the first sign of trouble, or just start Logue. Either way, I think we need at least those two wins (and tomorrow) if we want to have a chance of making the NCAA tournament.

We beat Alabama 2 out of 3 at home (we didn't lose the series to them as you said). We really should have also won the Sunday game, but they lucked out a win.

You're right. I was on d1baseball and looking at their schedule where they lost two of three to us. lol

I honestly hope we get crushed tomorrow and in the SEC tournament. That's the only way Henderson could be gone after the season.

It's become fairly obvious Kentucky baseball will never be relevant as long as Henderson is around. I'm honestly not impressed at all with Rick Eckstein. You don't lose your job as MLB hitting coach for no reason at all.

Actually, Henderson has locked in to his starter for Alabama. It will either be Brown or Logue. Brown would be pitching on 4 days rest while Logue would be pitching on a full week's rest. Then he could go with Beggs and Cody in games 2 and 3 and start Brown in game 4.

Brown is 2-11 on the season with an ERA near 6, he has had multiple chances. I would rather go with Logue if Beggs needs an extra day. Even if you just get 5 good innings out of Logue, you can use 3 or 4 other guys. If you win the 1st game, you then go to double elimination.

There is zero reason to pitch Cody tomorrow. If UK wants to get in the NCAA you have to win a few games in the SEC tournament. And you can't do that if you don't win the first one.

Wow Gabe...Brown is 2-11 and you are projecting games 2-4 with Brown opening up! !!

I think it is imperative that they win tomorrow. .

I do agree that tomorrow is important, but I'm not convinced that Cody needs to go. I think you go with Logue and then make it a bullpen game. I just don't like the idea of Logue making his first SEC start in the tournament.

That's a pretty I intriguing plan. I like it better. Logue would be pitching tomorrow against a lesser team at home. If he goes Tuesday then it will be a whole lot different. I'd rather lean on the senior. I doubt Henderson gets that creative though.

Things are getting extremely interesting at the bottom of the league. Right now Tennessee and Auburn both have 8 wins in the league while Arkansas is firmly planted in last place with just 7. Missouri is barely keeping their head above water with 9 wins. Tennessee is playing Georgia while Auburn is facing Vanderbilt. Auburn, I believe holds the tiebreaker over Tennessee. So, Tennessee needs to beat Georgia tomorrow and Vandy needs to beat Auburn in order for UT to make it into the tournament. If both teams lose, or both teams win, then Auburn gets the nod. If Missouri beats Kentucky and Tennessee and Auburn win then you technically have a three way tie for 11th. However, Missouri took the series from both UT and AU, so they'd be 11th and Auburn would be 12th. Pretty interesting ending for the last game of the year.

At the top, it looks like TAMU and MSU are racing for the top spot with 20 wins while LSU, USC and UF nip at their heels with 19 and 18. MSU is playing Arkansas so they should get another win. TAMU has another tough one against Ole Miss.

By the way, the UK RPI as of 1:15 eastern time on 5/21 is 57. Definitely not high enough to get us into the tournament in my opinion, and I am not sure a win tomorrow is going to do anything for us. Probably need a win tomorrow and at least one SEC tournament win.
