Kentucky & Michigan For Gwath?

I just don't know how this plays out.

We're clearly going after a few 5 men in the portal, but we have Moreno and (presumably) Garrison on the roster. Who is going to be 3rd fiddle?
Moreno. If you got Gwath, Moreno earns his place. With the versatility of those three, you could rotate some PF minutes for some of them too

Let’s hope we can beat the football school for this one. We let a leprechaun beat us out for the last good portal player!

Relax, lots of good players will still enter. Lamont Butler didn't enter the portal last year until April 24th. There is still A LOT of time left in the cycle.

And Michigan is a big brand with NIL dollars who used their 2 big men (Wolf and Goldin) this year about as well as anybody.

This is a marathon and let's see how it shakes out.

Whoever is the 3rd best lol

I guess what I am saying is, are we realistically going to get a talented 5 man to come on board knowing there is a chance they might get bumped from the rotation?

Or do these tea leaves point towards a Garrison departure?

DPOTY as a freshman. Bring that young man to Kentucky.
Wasn't Amari DPOY at Drexel?
These guys that are athletic and long, tend to overwhelm mid major teams, but it's a completely different ballgame in the SEC.

We watched Amari allow guards to get layups and put backs all year long, last night was no exception.

I realize this guy is a different guy, but the DPOY in a mid major conference thing, seems great on the surface, but the SEC is such a different animal.

I would rather get guys that have been good in a power conference. But that's just me. CMP knows what he's doing.

They prolly give one of them some minutes at the 4. But honestly garrison isn’t a good enough player to worry about that.

Yeah but I don’t think anyone regrets getting Amari.

Moreno will not be the starter here. He needs a year in the weight room to be an impact player in the SEC. He has no shooting range either. We need a physical rim protector for next year. Gwath can be that.

Most will want to find a new school by April 7th..

I agree with a lot of what you said, but I don't know if I see Gwath being a real "physical" presence. A shot blocking presence for sure, but he's only 205 pounds at 7 feet, so I do worry that he'll get pushed around by some of the bigs in the SEC.

Most might want to, but doesn't mean most will. A lot of the portal is a "domino effect", and whether they like it or not, a lot of dominos might not fall by April 7th- especially those with NBA draft decisions.

Unfortunately, have to agree
Got to have somebody to block some shots or at least attempt too
Garrison and Williams just watched most of the time.
Hopefully, butler can put in a good word for uk

No, but he had faults and limitations and in year 2 of the Pope era, I expect to get a better player than Amari.

Amari couldn't shoot, he didn't defend the rim, he struggled to make free throws, he had 1 move in the paint and it was a simple turn with a shot-put type finish that missed way too often.

He was a brilliant passer and rebounder, but only when he wanted to rebound.

I have this weird nasty feeling that we will miss a lot of top targets and settle on mid tier guys. Hope I’m wrong, but just feel uneasy about it.
I think Pope and staff know who they want and are actually all in on and the media and fans are just guessing. Who we want and who the staff wants in most cases will be totally different animals.

No kinda shocked he hasn’t committed yet maybe the staff cooled on him or he us
I’m not sure about his rebounding or defense, but his 3 point shot looks smooth and he has some craftiness around the basket.

I figured we would have heard more about him, but it’s still early.
