Kentucky & Michigan Early Favorites for Yaxel Lendeborg?

For real, they are a football school
Both MI and us have or can have equal NIL. It still comes down to recruiting. The real question is, "can Pope recruit." If two schools have the same ability to pay the same it has to come down to which coach is the better recruiter. We will never get the better kids by trying to pay more. It is silly to say pay the kid. Kids want the money but also need to know they fit, are in an environment they like, and the coach makes them feel needed and wanted.

While I agree with you to an extent there are also other things that come into play such as proximity to family, shoe connections, ties to agents, etc that all factor into a kids decision. If it was just about who is a better recruiter Cal wouldn't ever lose a kid.

Everyone has money. Auburn has Bruce and that scumbag can recruit.
Unfortunately, this is the reality. Now, those coaches of football schools (such as Oats who was already vocal about this in the last few days) might complain that the NIL difference between football and basketball is egregious. But don’t for one second think that the basketball schools across the board (UK, KU, Puke, etc) have more basketball NIL just because we’re a basketball school. Someone like Texas A&M could absolutely trounce us in NIL if they wanted. If Jerry Jones suddenly got into Arkansas basketball, he could single handily bankroll their entire NIL for more than what we can provide. It’s the new world of college basketball

Even if he commits it seems as though he will still enter the draft where I'm seeing him projected early second round. So, we would still be in limbo throughout the draft process.

Just taking a look at 247's Transfer Rankings the only player in their top 50 committed to what most call the Bluebloods is Kam Williams. The fact that Kansas, Duke, UNC and UK only have 1 combined in the top 50 transfers as of now seems crazy to me. I don't agree with a lot of things Matt Jones says but yesterday he said that smaller schools are willing to out pay to get 1 big player and then have lesser talent around them where schools like UK try to distribute their money among several players instead of sinking it all in 1 guy so they have a more well rounded team. I tend to agree and think that is why some of these other schools are outbidding UK on players.

This is definitely the case. Mark trying to add numerous players, so have to be cautious and very planned on who and how much. Some other school, where may be trying to add one or two, can spend their load and perhaps give a bigger check for those two, as opposed to a school trying to add say 4 or 5.

Trying to decipher is this is your enthusiasm and positive thinking, or if you heard something I didn’t? I have heard we are in good shape, but not close to definite right now.
I’m wondering the same thing. He posted it and then went offline lol. I have no idea what to think coz I see nothing on here, HOB or KSR+ indicating we are going to get him. 🤔

I don't think I could pick anybody over Lendeborg, but I sure like Alvaro Folgueiras a lot as at least a close 2nd. In fact, if UK missed on Lendeborg and got Folgueiras I wouldn't really be disappointed. I like Reed Bailey also, but not as much as the other two. I'm assuming you couldn't land both Lendeborg and Folgueiras, but I actually think they would form a dynamite starting frontcourt (neither one is going to be, nor should be, a backup to the other or Garrison).

Wonder why the press is not on Alvaro? Isn't he tons better than the IU guy? Lock up the skilled guys you can that DO have a motor like Alvaro and Bailey. Why would you give guys like these another reason to not come here by adding the IU guy???

Wonder why Bailey has not visited? He looks like he moves a little better than Alvaro. Could Alvaro at times be the backup center and the four when Bailey is resting? Two talented guys that would give the team a lot of flexibility. And both are skilled and play hard.

We supposedly lured him into the portal but it seems like the team that lures them in rarely gets them.

Things have changed. If he's a second round guy now, he will be a 2nd round guy next year too most likely.
But 2nd round money isn't as good as what he will get in college and it's not like he's a 19 year old athletic freak that is going to get a massive 2nd contract.
Yaxel is going to eventually be a nice roll player in the NBA, so in my opinion, the smart move for him, is to get that big college bag of money, then head to the league.

Coaching changes also have an effect on where guys end up as well. Osobor and DeVries were top 10 portal transfers and followed their coaches to new jobs last year. Same with all the guys that Cal took to Arkansas with him. Just like the kid from Drake followed his coach to Iowa.
