Kentucky Derby Festival Classic on FS2

So, if we get Johnson, I guess we could have 3 shooters (Johnson, Baker, and Alexander). Add Bamba and the only weakness I see is experience.

He's not lying. Based on how good they were this year and likely returning everyone AND their McDonald's AA making hat freshman to soph jump AND a good class coming in. Even if Mitchell leaves they will be good. It's ok to take off the bias shades and view reality like everyone else

Based on what?

Lol was it the scout board. I did the same thing. By page three someone finally mentioned him by saying one kid is the best player out there but unfortunately he's going to the blue school

I was trolling the tards game thread and it was like the big blue elephant in the room--the game shai was having and how unimpressive their recruits looked.
Nobody would even make any reference to him. love it.

Yeah, i don't think they ever actually called him by name.

You do realize he is a one and done whether he's ready or not. He will not be here next year.
This poster can't be this dumb can he ? Zero chance he is a UK fan and posts like this are pure troll material. Alexander IMO is a 2 year player and then will be a mid level 1st round pick as the scouts do love his potential. But he is more likely to be a 3 year player then a 1 and done . But if he is a one and done then good as that means we are a really really good like we were this year and in 2014, and in 2015 and in 2010, you know basically every year Cal has been here.

Everyone I talked to who was at the game (including three of my scouting colleagues) said Shai was head and shoulders the best player there and it wasn't close. They said the comp wasn't that good but even with that you could see Shai didn't belong there. They said he's not McDonald's AA good but if he was picked you wouldn't have been able to point and say "he doesn't belong here".

They said his control of the game and skill is very high and that he could start at most high majors in year one. Said don't be surprised if he is gone before his Sr year (and they weren't talking about transferring) not because of how good he is now but how good they think he will become.

If he continues to improve he'll be a OAD. He was throwing half court passes to 'receivers' like an AA QB. A 6-5 PG with his skill set will be hard to keep on campus.

8 boards plus steals, deflections. Seemed to be around every loose ball. These kids were not Burger boys but had kids who had signed at Louisville, Norte Dame, Xavier, Western

The five best BB players next year are

1. Green 6' 1"
2. Diallo 6' 6"
3. Alexander 6' 5"
4. Vanderbilt. 6' 9"
5. Washington 6' 8"/Bamba 6' 11" (if signed)

There has been a lot of the recruiting experts saying that Alexander would be the big surprise for UK next year. I saw it some last weekend in the Nike Hoops Summit and now here in the Derby Classic. We are going to have some good shooters for next year. Green is a good outside and 3 point shot, Diallo, Alexander, Baker, and if we get Cam Johnson are all near 40% shooter from 3 this past year. Then we have Vanderbilt and PJ Washington forwards that both are decent outside shots and we will have a team next year that will be loaded with shooters. This past year we had Monk and Willis that we were decent outside and 3 point shooters and that was about it. That hurt us this year that we didn't have more outside and 3 point shooters especially if Coach Cal is going to play the 3 guard system. You have to shooters like Kansas and Duke had with Mason, Graham, and Jackson that all 3 were good outside shots and 3 point shooters. Duke had Allen, Kennard, and Tatum that were all good outside shooters and 3 point shooters. If we going to play the 3 guard system I could see Green, Diallo, and Cam Johnson if we get him and to have Alexander and Baker. Then the forwards of Vanderbilt and PJ Washington that are decent shooters and we are going to be loaded next year. Then if Coach Cal goes big with Bamba or Bam(if he returns) with Richards and Forwards Vanderbilt and Washington and then Green and Diallo at guards and our bench either way we play we are going to be deep next year.

Ugh. I never want to see three-guard again, unless we have two absolute berserkers at the 4 and 5.

They weren't that good this year. They lose Mitchell and replace him with freshmen who will play very little, and they can't shoot. Get your head out of your butt.

Doubt it but if he is we will be insanely good as I expect Green to be one of the top 5-8 pg in college . If Alexander is a top flight back up then wow.
The Alexander I saw is no backup. It's impossible for me to not see Green, Alexander and Diallo starting. And a very good Baker coming off the bench.

Smash gotta disagree with ya, but i do think you will see all 3 in the game at times

i think it will be

Green
Diallo
Vanderbilt
Washington/Gabriel
Richards/Bamba (if Bamba commits he starts)

man we are going to have a loaded team, young but loaded

I agree. There isn't a player on the roster, including sophomore Gabriel or even Knox if he commits, that's going to keep a healthy Vanderbilt out of the starting lineup. The good news is that SGA will get plenty of run anyway because he'll be needed to back up both guard positions. I could see him getting 10-15 minutes per game combined between the 1 and 2 right from the get-go. Outside of that, we have plenty of depth in the combo forward range (Vanderbilt, Washington, Gabriel), in addition to what is hopefully a loaded post with Richards and Bamba, so we won't see a three-guard rotation once this season (thank God).

From what I saw (at Derby) Alexander can play pg, so what I really like is the idea of a 6.5, 6.6.,6.9 (Vanderbilt, point forward distributor) back court, kind of like Oregon on steroids, then you bring in Green if they have a muggy bogues that need guardng

If Alex plays as such (Derby), he will get pt at PG & 2G.
Baker will be dnp. cd. (except for cigar pt)

Diallo and Vando will not be giving up big pt to anyone,
Same for Green.

Don't kid yourselves into thinking next years team won't have several one and done's. Alexander, Diallo, Vanderbilt, Bamba (if we get him) and one of Washington and Richards will be one and done. Mark it down. I feel pretty confident Green will be back just because of his size. As far as Alexander is concerned, he can do it all. NBA scouts are gonna drool over him. He's a poor mans Malik Monk, but probably a little bit better at getting, and finishing at the rim. Vanderbilt is a freak athlete for his height. NBA scouts are gonna love him as well.

No he's not close to OAD. No one sees that at all, from coaches to scouts to fans. More potential and ready production

UK could have a couple OAD but not like some may think. More so OAD due to the weak draft. Way likely to be Archie Goodwin type OAD than a Fox, Monk, Davis where you know they are quick impact/NBA starters at the next level
