Zack Thompson takes the bump today to take on the Red Raiders. Here is how UK will go:

Breydon Daniel (3B)
Cam Hill (CF)
Jaren Shelby (RF)
TJ Collett (DH)
Dalton Reed (1B)
Ryan Shinn (LF)
Alex Rodriguez (SS)
Marshall Gei (C)
Zeke Lewis (2B)

This won't be too easy for UK. I have heard that the team has been suffering through an illness and many, if not all, of them had to wear masks on the flight in order to stop the spread. Hopefully UK can muscle through and put a good showing on today with our ace on the hill.

UK will face:

Holt (CF)
Baker (SS)
Jung (3B)
Klein (2B)
Facenado (DH)
Neuse (LF)
O'Tremba (RF)
Warren (1B)
Fulford (C)

Texas Tech switching things up on the mound and going with Erikson Lanning the left-handed junior. Tech may have felt like UK struggled against lefties in Clarksville and is trying to jump on that.

I hope they left their errors in Clarksville, Tennessee.

We're going to need to play pretty much error free to take the series.

I am also pretty curious to see how Texas Tech does this weekend. I am not sure how good Oregon is, but they out hit Texas Tech last weekend. So... how good is TTU really? Hit just .271 while allowing Oregon to hit .372 and gave up 15 stolen bases in 18 attempts. Texas Tech got the series win, but it is hard to say that they for sure played like a top 5 team.

Man, the weather they are talking about for tomorrow sounds like no one is going to be error free. 60 miles per hour sounds pretty ridiculous.

Lanning now supposedly at full strength after the 2018 redshirt and injury. and that is why he gets the start? Not sure why he wouldn't get it last week as well, but that's whatever.

As Comebakatz pointed out, I am hoping UK gets some runners early and often that can apply pressure on the basepaths.

Ming likes to be aggressive and as you said, Oregon had SB's on 15-of-18 attempts last week.

Breydon chased low and away and goes down on strikes. Cam Hill swinging early and goes down swinging. Lanning throws 2 straight 3 pitch strikeouts. Jaren finally gets a ball, but it is just one as Shelby goes down looking.

3 up 3 down and Lanning strikes out the UK side. UK has to cut down on strikeouts. Has to. It was a problem last year and looks the same this year.

Lanning filled up the strike zone in the first half of the first. That is what ZT needs to do. Limit the number of pitches and put the pressure on them to swing.

Holt leads this off for the Red Raiders. Thompson falls into a 3-2 count against Holt before getting a called strike 3! Holt didn't like it, but Gabriel says the zone was consistent. Very good to keep Holt off the bases there.

Baker, a righty, now at the plate and swinging early and ZT settles in and gets up 0-2. Then throws a great breaking ball that barely misses before ringing Baker up with the slider. Swinging miss.

Jung now at the plate and Thompson again starts with a strike. Like to see him working ahead, he was behind too much against Holt. Jung should be fairly familiar with Thompson since they were on the USA Collegiate team together. DIVING CATCH BY SHINN!!! Saves a hit and even got Gabriel excited.

Going to the second 0-0.

Collett looking to bunt away from the shift. He instead ropes a single into right-center. (I hate the shift).

Dalton Reed sees the same shift and I still hate it. UK looking to take advantage of this shift and get a bunt down for an easy hit, but they haven't been able to do so. Umpire Mike Morris took a foul ball off the chin and is hurt. Morris was an umpire for the Tech series last weekend, possibly the same crew. Reed flies one to left center for out number one.

Shinn looking for capitalize off the great play in the outfield and turn it into some good offense. He fouls off the first three he sees before finally getting a pair of balls. He is battling well against Lanning. Shinn rips it into right field for a single. Nicely done by Shinny. Oppo-taco!

Rodriguez has been battling the flu and isn't 100 percent, according to Gabriel. Would like to see him walk it out one time here. His good eye keeps holding true as he gets ahead 2-0, but he hits one off the end of the bat back to the pitcher. Runners move up and UK has two in scoring position with 2 outs.

Gei getting the start possibly because Kessler is still suffering from the effects of the aforementioned flu bug. Gei grounds one up the middle and it is past Klein at second and it scores 2 runs!!! A big hop at up Klein! UK with some luck there given that this is artificial turf and you don't expect that. They score it an error, Gabriel doesn't like it.

2-0 UK!!!

Lewis now at the plate and he lines one into left for a base hit. UK still threatening

Breydon Daniels flips the lineup and will see Lanning for the second time. He struck out in the first, but Lanning has lost some control as he falls behind in the count. Lanning gets Daniel to lift one into center to end the inning.

Middle 2nd - UK up 2-0.

Bad break there for Gei not getting the hit, but it gave UK the lead and that is what matters. Always putting pressure on the other team pays off.

ZT now facing Klein. Lefty on lefty and Shinn runs down a fly ball for out number 1.

Facenado gets three strikes in a row and Thompson catches him looking! 95 on the gun according to Gabriel.

Neuse pops up to shallow right field and Thompson makes quick work.

Going to the third with UK up 2-0!!

Cam Hill coming up for UK. Needs to get going and stay away from the strikeouts. I know Hill, the lefty, would love to stop seeing left-handed pitching after seeing 4 lefty starters in a row. He works a full count, so you like to see that from Cam. He grounds to first for the first out. Still, I am glad that he battled there and put the ball in play.

Shelby grounds the first pitch to third for the second out of the inning. Just some bad luck there with it being right at Jung.

Collett looking at the shift once again and he ropes one up the middle off the glove of Lanning, and the throw beats him.

Mid-3 with UK up 2-0.

Only place I could find live stats was Texas Tech's web site.

I think they often do it that way with the home team providing them. Last week the UK website linked to the Austin Peay live stats.

Not sure I can trust their stats. I just looked at the pitching. Zack Thompson has 4 SO's but UK only has 3 total. Similarly, Texas Tech has 4 total SO's but Lanning only has 3.

Zack Thompson having some trouble in inning 3. Now 2-1. Never let up on the #9 hitter.

How are you guys listening to the game ? I clicked on listen on UK athletics, and all I get is a MBB video titled the journey Mizzou vs UK. TT athletics audio requires a subscription.

ZT now to face freshman O'Tremba and Thompson picks up his fourth strikeout of the day, this one of the swinging variety.

First baseman Warren looks at a knee high strike. Thompson now throwing a lot of strikes, especially first pitch strikes. Tech really far in front of the ZT curveball. They may adjust to it a bit later in the game. Warren fouls off a handful (3 in a row) before he grounds out to third base.

Thompson now facing the dangerous Fulford who had 2 home runs last weekend. Fulford works a full count and does a good job battling with Thompson. He lines one up the middle for a base hit, the first one of the day.

Holt now up for Tech. Dangerous spot due to Holt being a really good hitter. Thompson struggling a bit and has fallen behind Holt. I think he is trying to pitch him carefully. Now 3-0 to Holt. Walked him on four straight.

Baker is a much easier and less scary prospect, but ZT needs to real it in. Belanger out of the dugout to check on ZT and he brings in the whole infield. 5th ball in a row for Thompson before he finally gets a fastball past the swinging Baker. Base hit up the middle. Hill comes up throwing, but Tech scores a run.

2-1 with UK leading and 2 outs. Runners on first and second.

Josh Jung now at the plate. This is a bad spot for Thompson. Thompson now struggling to get those first pitch strikes. Thompson works this third 3-2 count of the afternoon. Grounder to Arod and he throws out Jung at first.

UK still leads going to the 4th 2-1.

Gabriel just said that they are having trouble with the ukathletics link, but he thinks it is working now.

Dalton Reed tries to beat the shift with the bunt, but bunts it too close to Lanning and he throws Reed out at first.

Shinn now up with 1 out. Shinny works ahead of the count and takes a 2-0 pitch into right center for a double. Holt bobbled the ball in right-center, but they still give the double to Shinn.

Stolen base for Shinn. Easy one moves Shinn to third base on a breaking ball that bounces in front of the plate. Rodriguez is at the plate and Guilliams comes out to talk to him and they have a little conference. UK gets 12 of these, and that is the second. Rodriguez is getting some pitches that are no where close, but the count runs full. Ball four over ARods head for another walk, his 8th of the year I believe.

Marshall Gei with another chance at scoring a run. Can't hit it back up the middle again like he did last time. Pitching coach out for Tech. He is looking to bunt, but fouls it off. Lanning having another conference, this time with his catcher. That is 2 of their 12 in this bat alone. Gei still squaring, but sees a ball before bunting through one. Ugh... have to get it down. It wouldn't be unusual for Gei to bunt here once again. He does. Shinn is thrown out at home. Too close to Lanning as the pitcher shovels it with the glove. Not even close.

You have to get the bunt down there. If you’re a light hitting batter, it behooves you to get bunts down

I can't find pitch count on their stats page. Who was that guy that said he was scoring at home? Hope he's online.

Lewis grounds it to short and Baker buries the throw in the turf and it gets passed Warren and ARod scores. 3-1. UK gets the run back.

Ugh Gei falls asleep at third. Lewis tried to lure Tech into a rundown but Gei leaves too late from third and gets thrown out to end the inning.

Zach Thompson now has 5 SO's while UK only has 3 total. But Lanning has only 3 of Texas Tech's 5. Methinks I see a software bug.

Rule of Baseball written in stone: DO NOT MAKE YOUR OUTS ON THE BASEPATHS!!! And it really kills me to see bunts screwed up, it should not be that hard . . .

Good inning for ZT. Going to the 5th with UK up 3-1. Want to see the top do work here.
