Kentucky at TCU (Sunday)

Some major shakeups in this one. Shultz going to leadoff and play second. Drew Grace going to slide into short stop. Zeke Lewis will man left field and Harmon will get a start over Anu.

I don't like Hill coming out. I get where they are doing this thing where they are playing matchups, but why do it with Hill in the first weekend? The kid is hitting .500 through two games and he has the team's only two RBIs. He is the only one that they are taking out of the lineup every time he faces a lefty. Other lefty hitters like Collett aren't coming out despite Collett struggling against both left and right handed pitchers, so why are we taking out Hill? I say that it is better to let him hit and see how he does with lefties than to just automatically replace him every time he might face one.

Not to mention that I imagine we make a huge step down on defense when our backup left fielder is a guy who has never played there in his 3+ years at UK.

Who is also not an offensive threat... Given that they have only two runs in two games, I'd say the offense definitely needs to be stirred up. Maybe not take a called third strike on every big situation would be a good start. They just don't seem to be confident in those scoring situations.

After three years...why are you surprised?
This man is totally under water.

I think some of the moves are fine. Bringing in Harmon to see more pitches is probably a good move. However, the team is hitting .172. Why in the hell would you sit one of two guys that is hitting above .250 for a guy that literally gives you nothing better than the guy that you are sitting? Lewis is a valuable player, but he doesn't regularly play left field so his defense will be worse, and his arm is probably worse, and whose freaking career average is .202, and who has just 2 stolen bases more in his 2 years than Hill has in his 1 full.... so, by all accounts Mingione is sitting a guy that is currently hitting the ball pretty well for a guy who is no where near as good.

I say that and Lewis will probably have some sort of career day. lol

Just about to get started on a nice 70 degree day in Fort Worth. Cats will face a lefty that sat out all of last season. UK wearing their grey vests with grey pants and black undershirts. Not a major fan of this look.

Schultz battles to a 3-2 count and battles pretty well, but goes down on an inside fastball right at the belt. It is one that he probably should have taken a cut at, but it isn't a horrible at bat. Gave the other UK hitters plenty to see by battling.

Daniel swings pitch one and flies out to shallow right. I believe the 2B took the fly for the second out.

Collett goes down 0-2, but battles pretty well and fouls a couple off and gets to a 2-2 count before popping one up into shallow left.

Loved the ones that they had yesterday with the "Frogs" across the front. These are pretty sweet as well.

I really dislike the UK vests. Never been a fan of vest jerseys.

The best vests jerseys where the Reds. But I agree, not digging the vests at all. Especially with the black.

One thing I want to keep up with today, if I can... is how many times our pitchers throw first pitch strikes. 1 for 1 so far.

Marsh starts his 2020 off with a strikeout. He then gets a first pitch grounder to go off his glove to Schultz at second, who makes a very solid play with the bare hand and beats the runner by a half step. Marsh gets his second strikeout despite falling behind. It comes on what looked like a slider that never got in the zone. Good swing and miss pitch.

This inning had 2 first pitch strikes in three batters.

0-0 going to the 2nd.

Harmon up for UK and he works ahead early before looking at two straight strikes on the outside corner. Another ball that was very close to a strike before he looks at his third strike for the second looking K of the game. Never took his bat off his shoulder.

Kessler relatively quickly grounds out to second. May have been first pitch.

Shelby also swinging early fouls off the first pitch, and then gets a ball before lifting a lazy fly to the middle of center field for a can of corn out three.

Very quick inning for their pitcher there. Barely broke a sweat.

Good start to this inning, with Marsh getting two relatively quick outs with a pop out and a grounder. However, he gave up a walk and now seems to be struggling fallen behind 3-1. Back to back walks for the hot hitting Rodgers. Rodgers takes a 2 out 0-2 pitch into left and it plates a run to give TCU the 1-0 lead.

Rhodes makes a rookie mistake and tries to tag the runner going to third instead of just going to first on the routine play. If he just goes to first the inning is over. Instead, he tries to make a play that isn't necessary. Mingione out to argue that the tag was put on him, but he always loses these.

Possible that Mingione thought the guy ran out of the baseline to avoid the tag. Either way... it was a dumb play by Rhodes... made worse that it was the 9 hole hitter. Brown now up and Marsh falls behind 3-0 before battling back to a full count. He walks him and gives up another run. 2-0 with 3 walks in the bottom of the second.

Base clearing double for Sacco. Marsh has now given up a 5 spot in the second. This one might get real real ugly boys and girls.

Cats get out of it finally, but not before TCU makes them pay for the walks with a couple of hits that led to a 2 out 5 run frame. UK now down 0-5 going to the top of the 3rd.

Rhodes starts the inning popping up to third in the corner behind the bag.

Lewis first pitch swinging and Shepherd at third makes the first two outs, both of them he makes look easy. He is an outstanding defensive third baseman.

Grace strikes out.

Another very quick TCU top half.

Bunt for a base hit starts the bottom of the third. Then Kessler gets the man stealing by a mile.

A dying quail out in no mans land in center behind second is run down by Schultz for out number 2.

Marsh at 60 pitches. Threw over 20 last inning alone.

Another pop up for the third out. Better inning, obviously. lol

Back to back strikeouts to start the 4th. Collett then grounds out to short.

A leadoff double against Marsh who is still in the game in the bottom of the 4th. That should, IMO be the end of his day, but he will stay in to face the hot hitting Rodgers, who is hitting .500. Marsh gets him to pop out to center. Shelby can't get behind it and it is deep enough to get the runner to tag to third.

Great diving stop on the infield by Rhodes, but he throws the ball away. Another run scores and UK commits its 6th (IIRC) error of the weekend.

A pop out to left is the first out of the inning. Marsh now coming out and giving way to Zach Lee.

Harmon crushes the first UK home run of the season to left field!! 6-1 now, TCU leading. First hit of the game for UK as well.

Kessler gave one a ride as well down the left field line, but it finds Brown's glove in left just shy of the warning track.

UK now has the bases loaded. A hit by Rhodes and then an error on the shortstop on a weak hit by Lewis helped to make this happen. Just 1 out.

Drew Grace pops out to shallow right for the second out. New pitcher for TCU.

So another good scoring chance and we have an infield fly with Shultz up and he bases loaded 2 outs.

JUCo righty Drew Hill now coming on to face Schultz and the top of the lineup. Wild pitch, but not far enough away to advance a runner. Schultz singled to the pitcher to score a run and make this 6-2. Keeps the inning alive. Not sure what happened yet. My video is lagging, so it will take a while to catch up.

Daniel strikes out to end the inning with UK just getting one across with 1 out and the bases loaded. Very frustrating.

Well, the first at bat of the 6th may have been a warning sign for Lee as it was a fairly deep fly to right center, but it went for a long out. The second hitter of the inning too one for an oppo home run to left field to get back one of those UK runs. Now 7-2 with 1 out.

This TCU team has some wheels. If they hit anything in a hole in the infield then it may very well go for an infield hit. This time it does just that as a grounder to the right of the SS makes for a long throw that Grace cannot get over to first in time and TCU has another runner on with 1 out.

Another stolen bag for TCU. There easily. Wolfe has his third stolen base of the season and TCU has their 6th in 7 attempts this weekend.
