Kentucky at Lipscomb (Opening Day DoubleHeader)

Burkes not in lineup. Hitting Bell 5th, pretty interesting spot. By the way, currently says 35 degrees in Nashville. ☃️

UK hit the ball hard in the top half but right at people. Expect them to get more comfortable seeing pitches and finding gaps.

McCay with two Ks. Threw almost exclusively fastball and I think only one pitch was out of the zone.

Cats take the early lead in the top of the 2nd as with runners on the corners, Herrera hits an excuse me swing to third and the 3B tries for the barehanded pickup but can't make the play and that allows the run.

1-0 going to bottom 2.

McCay got into some trouble with a walk, a single, and an error that loaded the bases with 2 outs, but he worked a strikeout to end the threat and take us to top of the 3rd.

Just prior to the Hage home run, Bell got into one and put it in the gap at the warning track in left center, but the CF for the Bison made an amazing diving catch for the out. Great sign for Bell to get into that one. Could have also been a home run if it was a warmer day.

That was a little crazy. Fly ball left of third and Herrera has to literally run through the 3B umpire to get the ball for the third out of the inning.

Yeah, he tagged that ball.

Scott Rouse now coming in to pitch for UK to start the bottom of the 6th.

I believe that this game will end early if UK holds the Bison in this inning and the next bottom half.

Did not listen to game 2, but from box score, pitching was decent, only one bad inning (in 2 games actually), but zero offense. It was really cold, and it is baseball, anyone can win a given game if you get good pitching.

But dropping 2 of 3 to Lipscomb would be a kick in the nuts, need to win tomorrow.

Listened to much of game 2. Cleaver had multiple lead off walks. got out of all of them except for the one inning which turned out to be decisive.

Offense very disappointing, just listless and zero clutch hitting. Hope this is not a trend.

High in Nashville today will be 35 degrees, is there a chance they may call it off because of the cold? Not sure if that is an option, tbh.

I was at both games Friday. Game 2 looked like a completely different team. Not much energy( could have been the cold weather), Poor swings on offense (maybe Lipscomb pitchers were good), lots if routine fly ball outs and lots of check swings. The k's with runners on were killers. Not sure why Small did not play in either game. To be honest Marcy and Bell looked over matched. Marcy did not hit a ball solid all day. Bell did hit the liner that was caught, but looked at a lot of called strikes.

From my view, didn't adjust quickly enough in Game Two to the conditions. Burkes obliterated two balls and had nothing to show for it. Should have been four runs. Couldn't escape one terrible half-inning. But shutting them in out in 14 of 15 innings on the day is something they should be able to work with. DHs are always hard, especially Opening Day in less than ideal conditions that drastically changed between games and a new offensive coach. I remember getting shut out in the opener to start 2023 and then they went to a Super. Probably unwise to put too much, good or bad, into one day.
