KAT comment

The only reason Cal has one N.C. is the 2012 team was the exception to Cal's guard dominant dribble the cover off the ball teams. 2015 should have never lost to Wisconsin, but Cal managed to lose that game with all that talent.
Cal owes his championship to the NBA lockout. Thatā€™s fitting since he ran an nba farm program anyway .

Darius miller is the most underrated, individually impactful player in the Cal era. Him being able to sub the 2-4 is why that team worked. Gave us an additional shooter at all times instead of Calā€™s normal ā€œonly one shooter (lamb) on the floor at a time and a broken shot PG and a true 4 playing the 3.

Add to it that the lockout forced Jones and likely Lamb back. Jones could also shoot decently from the 4. It was an anomaly and Cal never realized it was the shooting from the 3-4 position. And not just the 2 and sometimes 1 that made the at team unguardable. MKG was the only guy who wasnā€™t reliable from 3 by the end of the year but he was so dominant defensively and slashing that it didnā€™t matter.

Perfect storm

You would think Cal would have learned from that team and their success, because he may have had a couple of teams from 1 to 10 had more talent, but that was the only group that played like a real team.

That is a little far fetched. Cal will still go down as one of the greatest College Basketball Coaches of all time. He took UMASS to the final four and in the process he beat UK and Rick Pitino, one of the greatest teams of all time. He took Memphis to the championship game. He took UK to 4 final fours in 5 years and won a championship. He is the second all-time winningest coach at one of the winningest programs in the game. It is time to move on and stop trying to justify losing Cal was the right thing. Everyone agrees it was time for both parties to go separate ways. Now enjoy Pope and let Cal enjoy the accolades he has earned. Cal will always be one of the best coaches to ever walk the UK sidelines and no matter what crap you spread on these message boards will change that. Go Cats!
Early in the season UMass beat UK. Not in the tourney. Might want to come up for air.

2012 was the only group of players he had at UK that actually played team ball. What ever the circumstances were, yet Cal learned absolutely nothing from that team.

But youā€™re acting like winning games and team success was Cals first priority . He clearly stated (around 2015) he had a higher calling, to end generational poverty. So either he was talking bullshit (totally believable since itā€™s Cal) or he was going to put individual players development over team success. Results say it was the latter .

Not sure where you get that you must have a reading comprehension problem, never stated ever in the last 9 years on this board that Cal's goal was to win, especially win national championships, and my point was his only championship was a fluke because that team did not have a guard dominate ball hogs and actually against everything Cal does on the court actually played team ball. Personally I think Cal was the laziest coach in my time watching UK, I can go back to the 75 team.

I still say if he'd of let KAT shoot from outside more in 2015 he would've pulled a defender out of the paint and open up driving lanes, we could've still won in 2015. I know he was a dominant force on the inside but he was a really good shooter too

Canā€™t overstate the importance of loyalty to the Harrisonā€™s when you have underachieving benchwarmers like Ulis and Booker riding the pine. I mean, who gives a crap if we win a NC or not. Cal lost me that night, I also nearly quit watching altogether when he later covered himself by indirectly saying it was more about the kids than winning. Just glad we have a guy in here who understands the expectations and can relate to the fans.
Booker had four different and 1s on him. They kept setting picks cause we switched one through 5 till they got Dekkar on Booker and went to work. Also from mid February through March Booker shot 29% from 3. Let's also not act like the Harrison's didn't get us to the title game in 2014, and we lose to Notre Dame without their clutch play. They were also our second and 3rd leading scorers against Wisconsin in 2015. Trust me I get your point and Cal was horrible. But I can't stand Harrison twins slander. They were the Dawgs.

AMEN about the HARRISONs getting preferential treatment. Ulis and Booker were clearly the best to have on the floor at that time. I mean, I appreciate them for coming back but Ulis (healthy) and Booker by far were the better players and more dynamic.
