Karl Towns and Randle Swap

Yep. And it put too much of a load on Randle so he’d always end up hurt as well. Ended up with an either or front court. Can’t win like that.
Randle will benefit with Gobert but the problem is he is the worst offensive player in the league probably. At least he will get to play his natural position again. Gonna watch a lot of T wolves games with Dilly and him.

I suppose Mikal Bridges with the Knicks now made DiVincinzo expendable. Brunson, Slide Josh Hart over to SG, Bridges, OG & KAT for the starting 5. T'Wolves now with Edwards, Conley, Dillingham & DiVincinzo in their backcourt.

That's kind of my feeling. Adding Mikal was great, but it did kind of concentrate the talent into a small ball lineup. And with losing Hartenstein at center, it really left the Knicks thin in the front court.

I'm glad with this trade on the surface. But my issue is that I'm just not sure KAT is that type of "dude" to play with these fiesty Knicks. KAT is also seemingly trying to play less Center and more PF, as he's averaged almost 6 three point attempts per game last few seasons. That's not really what the Knicks need. They need a competent top15-20 big man.

Hope this isn't the Knicks becoming desperate. But, they probably do need to take a big swing here if they want to truly compete for a title.

I don’t know, I think he will fit in there well. He can really thrive as a big who can take guys to the perimeter. The Knicks will have a good defense too.

There's another problem as well: Thibs coaching style. Unless he changes this year, he's going to run KAT into the ground just like all his past players.

I'm mixed on Thibs. I think he's a great coach and I like his no BS style of play. If you're not 100% committed, go somewhere else. But I'm not sure that works for an 82-game season on the hardwood. So signing KAT will only matter if he can spell him for other front court players, or else he too will just be injured come playoffs.

Hoping Leon Rose and WWW can get in his ear about it this season. If it means you have to sacrifice a few regular season wins and you go from a 3 seed to a 5 seed.. well, so be it. Can't play these guys 46 mpg.

I think this trade is bad for Minnesota. At least Kat won’t get blamed and now Edward’s won’t have him as a fall guy.Dribble for 10 to 14 seconds and kick it out killed them with the mavericks didn’t make Edward’s look as bad as he was.Everyone dealt with a 10 or less second shot clock the whole game because he wouldn’t just draw a foul or take it all the way or shoot.Made him look good to a average fan that knows nothing about shot clocks, time,or setting plays up.

T wolves were in conference finals last season. Trading away KAT is bold.

From what I understand the Wolves were about to be crushed by the Luxury tax and trading Kat helped tremendously.

From my POV I think the Wolves were capped with the construction of the roster and wouldn't win a title with that core. However I also think trading Kat for Randle didn't make them any better if not worse lol

That's fair. Not everyone can afford that tax.

I agree, doesn't get them any closer. West is still Denvers to lose Most seasons IMO. Wolves and mavs and thunder all strong contenders as well.

The Knicks have traded a lot of future draft capital and their payroll will be second apron. They are going for it. If Thibs doesn’t win big or runs them down he will be fired for sure.

Probably so but how often do they have a team like they did and just made the West finals. You need to try It out for the next 2 years and see what happens. I would have traded Gobert and add someone on the wing who is 3 and D kinda guy. In fact Bridges would have been a perfect fit for them. At least they still added an All Star and another shooter in this deal.

the problem is KAT doesn’t want to play C. That’s the whole reason they brought in Gobert.
If that’s true, then he needs to get over it. Whether he likes it or not, he is a center …albeit one who’s also an ace three point shooter …as center is the spot where he best serves his team.

Minnesota’s Gobert/KAT pairing was the NBA’s boldest attempt at a “twin tower” lineup in years. Yet they’ve already quit on it. If it wasn’t good enough pairing him with the NBA’s reigning defensive player of the year (Gobert) then the Knicks ain’t gonna try it again with someone like friggin Mitchell Robinson.

That and apparently DiVincinzio wasn’t too thrilled with his minutes being cut and being relegated to the bench after how well they played when everyone was hurt.

People acting like we don’t have a lot of evidence for questioning whether KAT is a guy you can win with when you rely on him to be a high volume guy…
