Kansas loses again. Jayhawks have gained ZERO wins on UK in Pope's stopgap season.

Texas Tech took them down today at Allen Fieldhouse. UK still leads +5 in the all-time wins column.

Way to fail your program with that preseason #1 ranking, Bill.

In a rollercoaster season, what is the ONE THING that hasn't changed ?

level playing field.... we still own the total wins lead. Kansas, after starting #1, has gained - nor lost - NADA.

hahahahahahaha! If you would have told me that before the season started, it's another thing I would've thought you were NUTS about.

surprised I didn't see it coming, with the way this year has been.

sometimes, things happen for reasons that just aren't apparent at the time .... it truly takes a discerning eye to watch out for the coincidences that aren't "coincidences".

Kansas fans are not happy.
I'll confirm as a KU fan this is true. Self taking a lot of heat this year. Last year was disappointing also. Didn't have any depth. Tried to fix that this year and brought in a lot of portal guys. Seems like he brought in pieces but not necessarily pieces that fit well with one another. I don't think Self is great with transfers... he excels when he can bring in freshman, break them down and build them up. But that takes 2-3 years to do and that isn't CBB anymore. His 22 national championship team was a bunch of 3/4 stars who had been there at least three years. Brought in one transfer (Remy) that made an impact. I fear the game is passing him by a bit. Also ever since his heart attack, I don't think he is the same guy and takes it a bit easier (I am not faulting him for this btw).

it does feel like decline has set in. I know Kentucky fans want to keep that all time wins lead over Kansas, and I'm not sure if Kansas will catch UK in that, if it didn't happen this year, and it doesn't look like it will ... I wonder....
For all the years Self has put in there, it will be strange if he continues with providing disappointing seasons, how exactly much longer will he last there?

The question .... can be asked. And if he does leave, eventually, who would take over ?

Big questions, indeed.

What is that? The seeds that Bill Self's teams at KU have produced in his tenure there.

I mean last season had to be disappointing for them and this season similar, but I'd really pump the breaks on all the doom and gloom. I think we are wayyyyyyy early here to be comparing to Cal who even in his best times here didn't achieve those above levels consistently.

I think he will retire within the next 2-3 years. I don't think he enjoys it. It seems like some of the old school coaches have gotten out in recent years (Wright and Bennett) come to mind. I don't think he will retire after this season. He has Darryn Peterson coming in who is probably his biggest recruit since Wiggins. If he has another disappointing season again next year, I could see him retiring. No idea who would take over. There is no one in KUs family tree. One thing KU has traditionally done well is make the correct hire. Only two coaches since 1989 which is insane when you think about it. But, one bad hire and it can suck

Sorry if my post comes off as doom and gloom. That wasn't my intention at all. Self has set the standard so high it is insane.

Not necessarily yours but I would let other KU fans know to not jump off the ledge just yet.

IMO the Big 12 got a little bit weaker by adding a bunch of teams (obviously Houston/Arizona were good additions). I think KU will be fine in that conference with Self.

I actually don't think this is some resounding statement on success.

All those great regular seasons where the Big12 kind of didn't give a shit about basketball, he goes into the tournament as a top seed for 20 years.. and they have to shoe for it are two titles and just 3 final 4s.

He's simply one of the biggest choke artists in March. And what's funny is that when Cal started to really slide in his abilities, Kentucky fans quickly moved on from him. I mean as soon as losing in 2015, fans began to turn on him.. but self has been under performing in March for 20 years and they're just now starting to wake up.

We Kentucky fans would not be happy with that resume. There's no two ways about it.

I didn't read this thread but their fans don't count their lost games and still have them ahead of us acourding to a thread over there.

No talking sense into people that celebrate Helms championships with banners. We only count 48,49,51,58,78,96,98,12. You never hear about our national championship that we won prior to NCAA Tournament because we don’t need to pad our stats. KU fans need all the help they can get — if you ain’t first you’re last.

I thought we were up 7 games as of today?

KU went ahead by 8, then vacated 15 wins.

Both teams had 23 wins last year, and both have 19 this year.

That's a ton of 1s for "not a resounding statement on success"

I mean you could make the argument they underperformed in March based on that. That's certainly correct. But with one and done tournaments I'm of the mindset of just put yourself in a position to win titles. 1 seeds/2 seeds. I mean most champions come from those lines. You need some luck with this. I feel like this gets overlooked.

It's easier to win titles with the seeds that KU has gotten vs the seeds that UK got under Cal. That was the whole issue with Cal TBH. He lacked consistency here. We only have 1 title in that era because in part we were only in the conversation for a title a few years in his entire tenure here.

Also the Big 12 has been consistently rated as one of the best conferences in America at that time along with the Big 10. Maybe some disagree with that but it's based on those very same metrics that say the SEC is great this season. If anything, the Big 12 has gotten significantly weaker now, thus making it easier for KU/Self to do well.

Agree to disagree. As college basketball fans know, the tournament is somewhat of a crapshoot. Need to get hot and win six straight games and upsets happen. Should KU have more Final Four appearances and another natty? Perhaps, but a lot of programs can say that. In the end, only one team can win it a lot has to go your way. Take the 22 KU team. I firmly believe that was NOT the best team in the nation, but they got hot at the end of the year and got some breaks. The 20 KU team was a much better team (I think most KU fans would agree with this), but never got their shot because of Covid. It was a tough break. If we look at the last 20 years, KU has one of the better resumes overall. Is it the best? Nope but top 5 for sure. There aren't many schools that wouldn't trade places with KU in the last 20
