Kaiya Sheron enters portal

He wasn't gonna play here anyway. Nor is the other guy who transferred here from Iowa. For the past 3 seasons we've had a QB 1 and pretty much nothing behind them. I really don't know why we even recruit some of these guys.

Might be the least surprising news of the off season. It was obvious the staff had zero confidence in the kid.

It's too bad really. Homegrown, won a 2A state title at Somerset, probably could have been descent with a little bit of development.

This makes me believe that Vandegriff is DEFINITELY coming to UK.

But, that leaves us with a walkon as the backup and a true Freshman as the 3rd guy next year.

Not Ideal.

that is not going to win you very many SEC games

Hmmm, hopefully we have enough $$$ to get 2 or more qbs from the portal…
Guy that sits next to me at games has a son that played fb with KS at WC . His son is graduating from UK this year and we talked a lot about KS during this season. This isn't a surprise.

I’ve never understood how we evaluate these kids, give them a scholarship, and then determine they have no QB1 potential only after they get on campus. It’s imperative if/when Vandergriff gets here that Boley gets some snaps and works with the 1st team and then the same with Saunders in ‘25. The only downside to those two is that neither is coming here to sit the bench so it won’t be surprising if one transfers. Our QB room is a mess and has been seriously mismanaged.

Have you seen the portal and the # of QB’s in it? QB’s transfer

And we know that Stoops develops ZERO backup QBs. On the rare occasions they get to get in a game Stoops won’t let them do anything but hand off to a back. I don’t blame him for leaving.

I have but that’s not my point. We absolutely have to start correctly identifying and developing these hs QB’s we bring in and at least get them some reps, same issue we have with the receivers. What I was saying about Boley and Saunders is neither of those guys are coming here to be QB2 and won’t wait four years for their turn like Mac Jones. One issue with constantly relying on a portal QB is he’s going to need as many reps as possible to build chemistry but you have to find a way to get these young guys on the field other than handing the ball off in minimal mop up duty. If this post doesn’t make sense it’s because I’ve been at the bar.

I mean honestly does it even matter they won’t ever see the field for any meaningful snaps. Stoops has never developed a 2nd string QB.

I guess it's logical to assume that Georgia's back up QB is better than our back up QB. Hope so.

Wasn't that Vandergriff did the few times he got in at Geogria? Not many coaches develop QB'S during the season.

Stoops has no apetite for working with inexperienced QBs. If 12 years here hasnt shown you that nothing will. With the portal now he doesnt have to. I bet money this Boley kid never starts a game here unless he is forced to start him due to injury

I just don't think he nor anyone on his staffs who have been primary recruiters can evaluate QBs. Nor can the develop them.

It does almost seem intentional. CMS' is a run and D guy and maybe that's been the hang up. Just get somebody who can hand the ball off.

I think that may start to change with Coen. He saw something in Levis and that first year was real nice.

Leary wasn't Levis but he was better than any QB CMS and Co. had prior to Levis.

I think it's just a matter of overall offensive philosophy from recruiting, to developing, to game planning and play calling.

As Stoops slowly evolves from run and D, opens up more to younger new age LC modernizing things hopefully QB talent/depth and overall passing game improve.

Him and EG we're just fanatical run zealots. Recruit running QBs, run with running QBs, run with running backs from QB spot, run with WRs from backfield.

No good QB wants any part of that, and the ones they did get they couldn't develop via the limitations of that offense/philosophy.

My guess they flat told him he was playing tight end. He was at the end of his choises.

Patrick Towles was the last QB that Stoops had that was 'developed'. It was also our last non-bowl game season, almost 9 years ago.
