Jimmy Brumbaugh would love to land McComb, Miss., defensive endKaDerrion Mason, a big man that can move and do a lot of different things in the box.
There aren't many 6-foot-5, 250 pound strongside defensive ends that can move like Mason, especially at his age, and that's one reason why coaches from Kentucky, Cal, Mississippi State, Missouri, West Virginia and others have offered.
Mason received an official, written scholarship offer from the Wildcats this week, putting to rest any doubts that may have existed about Kentucky's interest.
"They just sent the official (offer) letter (on Saturday) but they had already offered," Mason told Cats Illustrated. "I know basically everything there is to know about the basketball (program) but the football, I haven't looked into that as much. That's what I've got to do."
He knows that Brumbaugh is his recruiter and Mason also said he appreciates the words of praise that the Wildcats' defensive line coach has offered.
"He said he liked my explosiveness and they could use me as a defensive end or somebody that can drop into coverage sometimes," Mason said.
Mason said he has not set up any official visits and he has not decided which schools he would like to visit in the fall. He does believe more offers may be coming and wants to take his time rather than rush to make plans that could change. Mason has said he doesn't feel compelled to rush a decision.
He told Cats Illustrated that he's not sure how he would classify his interest in the Cats.
