Just let Stoops run the wishbone....

I half jokingly floated this idea awhile back and it went over like a lead balloon.

The truth is Stoops couldn't even run the wishbone because it takes very specific players to make it run. He can't even get average players to run his pedestrian balanced offense, much less specialty players.

The Triple Option is also one of the most disciplined offensive schemes in football. There is zero room for mistakes. That is the exact opposite of anything Stoops related.

Dude should go back to being a DC or just retire with all the millions he has stolen from UK.

Since they now admittedly don't know who the QB is going to be next year with Boley obviously needing more time and Brock likely transferring, plus since they will likely have to start all over again with the O-line, I'm thinking a run dominate offense might be their best hope, going back to some of the offenses that Eddie Gran ran.

I mean the chances of picking up enough elite O-line talent is slim, but you could go down to the GO5 level and find a bunch of big strong maulers that can churn out the yards, and Wimatt would be a good fit for that type offense.

Good example of fans not knowing the game.
They know the offense isn't good, but don't know why.

Stoops wants a high octane offense.
He just doesn't know how to do it.
He keeps hiring pass happy coordinators.
And they all fail
That's Stoops fault, but not because he wants to run the ball or not pass.
Because he's failing at recruiting QBs, failing at recruiting wrs that can catch, having a porous line, maybe from practice structure, organizing play calling, a ton.

The reason we’re bad on offense is stoops doesn’t have own philosophy on offense. He does on defense and his defenses play similar every year. We’re only good when we’re good on offense. If Coen ,Levis, Robinson do not come we tank that year. Even last year we played some of the best offensive games at the end of season( Louisville and Clemson). I for one do not enjoy going to games when it’s 3 and 10 and you feel like you have no chance of getting it.

I think he made it pretty clear boley is the presumed starter. I expect brock to enter the portal.

Any talk tempering that is to not scare away saunders, who apparently has a really good chance at starting too.

FEAR THE VEER!!!!!

Seriously, FirewithFire is spot on.

Military schools thrive with dive-keep-pitch option variants because they can utilize smaller and speedier OL who will lay vicious cut blocks laterally every play, AND they have multi-year starters with the smarts and discipline to run this highly complex offense.

For most HCs, conversion to a TO scheme takes at least a year….sometimes as many as two or three to recruit and coach up the right players.

Not in the cards for UK even if we wanted a TO scheme.

For years, one of the best in the option business was ironically KY born, FCS legendary coach Mike Ayers of Wofford College in Spartanburg , SC. Ayers played for Roy Kidd winning a 1AA NC at EKU before a stint in the USMC and finishing college playing for Georgetown (KY). At a private school with only 1,800 students, Ayers was 207-139-1 at Wofford with 5 SoCon championships and 8 FCS playoff appearances.

If UK wanted to go run-centric, maybe we should dial up Bill Snyder’s scheme (1 back, double option with a mobile QB that has approximately a 65-35 run pass mix) that he used to raise Kansas St from worst in D1 to making a splash in the BCS.

But….Bill Snyder ain’t walking through that door.

GBB!

But where could we find an OC to run such a scheme. Oh, I just thought of one. He's already hanging around the program.

Stoops would rather lose 13 to 10 than win 56 to 50. The idea of giving up that many points just offends his defensive mind. It's why we've never been able to have a real offense.

The problem isn’t just oh if we change the offensive scheme all will be fine again.

The staff doesn’t have one person on it that I would trust to evaluate offensive personnel and make the right choices in the portal.

We don’t need a wishbone but we need a fullback a running QB and Oline that are maulers. Any passes would be strictly off of play action and in the 10-15 yd range with the occasional bomb attempt.
