Total disaster for uK today. So many stranded runners, a huge defensive error by Carson, and every judgment call Ming made today backfired (Starting Lewis, all of those early bunts, Keeping Becker in instead of Cottom until it was too late, Heyer as a pinch hitter, and on and on and on).

Still alive, but really hard to imagine beating NC State twice if we get by IU. Just so depressing like so many football games in the past where BBN was fired up and showing up in droves only to lay an egg.

I'l be there tomorrow, but this is really a what-could-have been day for UK.

Hard to speculate what would have happened if we started Logue, or Thompson. Lewis would have been out of the inning if Carson catches that line drive to center.
The real reason we lost was leaving runners on base, a bad habit we have fallen into. If Thompson is on tomorrow, and goes 7 innings or so, we could come back tomorrow night with several options on the mound.

I don't think we should have taken Becker down. He's a switch hitter. Should have taken down Squires earlier and preserved the DH. Could have then used Heyer to replace Marshall to give us 6 right handed bats in the lineup without hurting the defense too much.

Something I have noticed lately, when we were really playing well during the season, Squires would catch games 1 and 3 of a series, and Cottam would catch game 2. He would DH a lot when not catching.
Now it seems Squires is catching practically all the time, and I believe he is getting worn down. Cottam is swinging a hot bat lately, and needs to be in the line up somewhere.
I look for IU to start a lefty against us today, and I would catch Cottam, and DH Becker. That would give us 2 more RH hitters in the line up.

Despite all the 2nd guessing, if Carson catches the ball we take a 2 run lead to the bottom of the 9th. CF is supposed to be your best outfielder, he just has to make that play. It sucks but it is what it is.

By the way, i was there too and just a tremendous turnout. Had to be another 500 or so standing on the track stadium and in center field deck.

Getting ready to head back up ,but wanted to check in first...guys yesterday was so frustrating and heartbreaking in so many ways. Lots of hindsight in that Logue probably should have gone to the mound against Ohio and Hjelle yesterday. But, with all that said until we start HITTING THE BALL TO SCORE RUNS pitching isn't going to matter and isn't the problem.
Yesterday we had bases loaded in the first and third with one out and get ONE run...that is not winning baseball! We had a situation where I think it was the sixth inning , with bases full and one out and Squires at the plate withthe first baseman was almost on the grass with a lefty pitcher ...perfect time for a bunt down 1st base line to get a run , but no dosen't happen. I would like to see a replay of the Carson "error" because it was a really well hit ball. You have to feel awful for him because it would have gotten us out of the inning and we may have won the game...again, it was disheartening because we had a sro crowd really jacked up and probably could have been that way again today, but now the odds are very slim ...I'm guessing Thompson and Salow get the mound today so we shall see, but for me and like I said earlier, if we aren't hitting the ball to score runs we are toast....leaving far too many guys on base...well, get me outta here Percy gotta hit the road and GOCATS!
