Just has that feel that Stoops will leave after this year, right? Probably Auburn.

Auburn is one of the toughest jobs in CFB given their high expectations while facing a brutal annual schedule, in-state competition with Alabama and regional recruiting competition from nearby powers UGA, UF, LSU, and UT.

CMS would be a moron to take the Auburn job, and frankly, I don't think they would want him.

While a good coach, CMS took a long time to move UK from bad-to-respectable, and he is not yet kicking in the door to make UK a conference championship caliber program.

Add to it that CMS' offense won't move the needle with a down-on-their-luck program with national aspirations.

I could see a solid Big 10 team like Iowa or MSU taking a run at CMS...maybe a more upper echelon school from the ACC (FSU or Miami some day perhaps). But that is the extent of it.

Top shelf schools want immediate buzz, better recruiting, and quick turnarounds. CMS doesn't have a history of delivering that combination across the board.

This. He would be dumb to leave for Auburn (or any SEC school that isn’t Bama/UGA maybe Texas and OKlahoma).

The only actual school I see him leaving for is Iowa or a name brand traditional B10 school or FSU/Miami like you said.

Either he goes home to Iowa and continues his families legacy there….or he takes a name brand school outside the SEC bc it’s an easier build and easier to compete for conference titles and get in the playoff by being the default too 3 team in the conference.

Auburn is not coming after Stoops.
I think about the only way Stoops leaves is due to our football NIL hang up compared to other schools.
I think Stoops would highly think about leaving for the Iowa job if or when it ever comes open.

Auburn will go after someone they feel can beat Alabama and a Charging LSU.
I think they go after Lane Kiffin or Deion Sanders.
Both of those could be dangerous with Auburns NIL backing and money.

First of all, I don't think Stoops will leave after this year. If he were to leave, no matter where he might go the heat will be on from day one. He will have the administration's support as long as he stays here and he has already said his work here is not done.

Saban would absolutely love Stoopsy at Aubbie. Geez. Doubt a Stoopsy-led team could create magic and weird shit to happen like a goofy Malzahn. That dude smoked crack before each Alabama game, was pullin’ stuff outta his butt.

I don’t think those expectations are as low as that.
If you think the expectations are higher than that, get ready for a Nebraska like result after they fired Bo. The likelihood of getting someone better than Stoops to come here after he is gone is very unlikely. Grass isn’t always greener. Ask the Huskers.

Oh I know, but we have witnessed in the not-so-distant past us getting 10 wins and a great bowl. Not saying fire CMS if he falls short but know any season we’re capable (if we have the personnel).

Why would CMS take the Auburn job??
Ever heard of early retirement?
It is pretty well accepted that CMS will not coach beyond 60 or so because of his Dad's untimely death. Look at Bob Stoops and how quickly he bailed from a NC program at OK.

Yes, CMS can stay at UK until he decides to retire in 5-6 years...or.......he can take the Auburn job for more money and probably get an early buyout in year 2 or 3 with more money than if he stays and grinds it out at UK. Just look at what Harsin walked away with for 18 months work at AU. See Coach O for a similar early retirement plan compliments of LSU.

CMS has the same agent as the other top coaches. A new contract at a new school in the SEC will set him up for life and early retirement.

There are other reasons to leave also.

1. I believe CMS has peaked at UK and I am sure he knows that also.
2. There is very little NIL money at UK to pay FB players and MB will never allow CMS to use NIL to get recruits. UK FB will pay a heavy price for that narrow minded decision and CMS can only work harder as his team that he has worked so hard to build falls back to Vandy level, especially with OK and Texas coming into the SEC.
3. UK can't recruit enough quality depth to play an 8 game SEC schedule.....and league is going to 9.
4. Then there is the Cal BS. The BB players are driving Lamborghinis and the FB players can't get a sniff. Cal is flexing on CMS with NIL and CMS hates his arrogant @$$. I am sure he can't wait to get away from Cal's crap.
5. AU needs a total rebuild. CMS is pretty good at that.
6. AU does have all the NIL money and booster support it takes to compete in SEC.
7. Plenty of talent in Alabama to recruit a championship program.
8. And last, but probably most importantly.....Auburn IS A FOOTBALL SCHOOL and CMS is a good FB coach.

I’d take the auburn job if I was him. He will be down on the list and they will get turned down by everyone. Use the leverage to get money like the guy at Mich St.

He could have one honeymoon season. Then say building culture terms for a couple season after and then take a huge buyout about year 4.5.

He’d get close to retirement age and can go hide out as the highest paid DC somewhere to ride off in the sunset.

This is depressing. Accurate, but depressing nonetheless.

I doubt Stoops goes anywhere but I do look for transfers, something like Barion Brown to UT or somewhere with an air raid offense, the twins may go as well.

Honestly-the things some folks speculate on,

I'd be highly surprised if Stoops ends up at Auburn. It's possible that things get stale here and he makes a lateral move somewhere, but I doubt it will be there.

Kentucky football ain't like traditional SEC football. No SEC power would take a non-competitive a$$ pounding like we did to a long time rival lying down, but we are A-OK with it. Any peep of protest is hammered out by "well he's better than Joker!."

Stoops understands his own limitations and will avoid schools where he would be expected to be competitive with the Alabama's and Georgia's of the world like the plague.

Just cruising around but as near as I can determine Auburn has zero interest in Stoops as well as he in them. And look at this: UK's lost 3 of its last 4 games with 4 remaining. Of those 4 remaining they have no chance in one(GA), a long shot in another(MO) and toss ups in two(Vandy/U6). Does anybody really think Auburn, or any other P5 school, would hire a guy who could lose 7 of his last 8 games?

A terribly disappointing and underachieving season, losing your NFL 1st round QB, recruiting in a lull, Cal comments and the immature Stoops response, new Auburn AD with KY ties..,

Feels like this is the year. Right?
Who wants Stoops that would be a realistic option to sway him? He has had an unbelievable contract his entire tenure here, even when we were winning little to nothing. He's had a lot of support from the fans and the administration without the pressure that typically comes along with it. He's frankly not a really good coach. He's a program builder, culture builder, and good recruiter. However, not great a motivator, not a great tactician, and not a great football mind compared against a lot of his peers.

He's hit the jackpot and knows it.

Stoops has put the best defenses on the field, consistently, that UK has had in my lifetime. Look at the ppg allowed in the last 5 years against any other period in the last 50 years. Tennessee torched us, but they did the same thing to Alabama.

UK is a top 25 program. We aren't ranked there this week, but over the last 5 seasons, UK is a top 25 program. Never in my 50 years as a fan has that been the case. I used to hope we could be a top 50 program at some point. Stoops has exceeded that.

Agreed; excellent post sir, kudos.

Anyone who wants Coach Stoops gone is nuts.

Our average Sagarin Rating over the last five years is 32.4. But I guaran-damn-tee you we were better than #26 in 2018 with Josh Allen and that defense, and better than #20 last year, which is where Sagarin had us for those seasons. There's my proof that we are a top 25 program. "So prove me wrong" as some little dipstick on here is fond of saying.

Bingo. Nailed it.

I think we can simultaneously think Stoops is a good Coach and has done a nice job at UK, while also believing that Auburn would have zero interest in him.

I highly doubt Stoops goes to Auburn. His stock is on the way down this year and lots of doubts if he wants an offense. These people want to play for a national championship and 1980s football won't take them there.

We’re not that lucky….Stoops is 0-11 in SEC West road games, so seems like a great idea for him to take a job in the SEC West, haha.
