Just has that feel that Stoops will leave after this year, right? Probably Auburn.

I doubt it would be for Auburn. He's got the best contract in sports and will make more in the long-run. Auburn has factions undermining the coach all the time and very difficult to last there long enough to make up for the lost income he'd have at UK.

Now, I could see it making more sense if Auburn were competing for titles - and maybe they would - but if not for Cam Newton they've been nationally relevant...twice in the last 20 years? Is that worth the short contract and the booster headache?

Hope stoops can keep the ship afloat for at least one more year just so we can welcome Jon Sumrall back as head coach. I think if Stoops left after this year, Sumrall would have a hard time leaving Troy after just one year. But if Stoops can let Sumrall have 2-3 years down at Troy, I think stars would align for him to come back as head coach at Kentucky.

Auburn is one of the toughest jobs in CFB given their high expectations while facing a brutal annual schedule, in-state competition with Alabama and regional recruiting competition from nearby powers UGA, UF, LSU, and UT.

CMS would be a moron to take the Auburn job, and frankly, I don't think they would want him.

While a good coach, CMS took a long time to move UK from bad-to-respectable, and he is not yet kicking in the door to make UK a conference championship caliber program.

Add to it that CMS' offense won't move the needle with a down-on-their-luck program with national aspirations.

I could see a solid Big 10 team like Iowa or MSU taking a run at CMS...maybe a more upper echelon school from the ACC (FSU or Miami some day perhaps). But that is the extent of it.

Top shelf schools want immediate buzz, better recruiting, and quick turnarounds. CMS doesn't have a history of delivering that combination across the board.

GBB!

Why would he leave?

He basically has a lifetime contract (win 7 and get another year), makes about $7mil a year, and makes top 15 money without top 15 expectations. This might be the best job in CFB.

I’m sure Mitch is on the phone offering him more money right now though.

He has the best job in America. High pay, low expectations. Win 10 on occasions and routinely win 7-8 and he keeps his job for as long as he wants it.
This is true. But he genuinely wants to do more. He himself is part of "the process" even this far down the line. I kind of enjoy watching the work in progress. Even if this year is a disappointment (as it can only be now... just a question of degrees) it might only set up another push forward. I'm not advocating moving on at HC just because of this season.

Caveat: All of the above assumes we finish 8-4 and perform well in our bowl game. Any embarrassing losses to Mizzou, Vandy or UofL will mandate reassessment.

I gotta think that Stoops is gonna stay for a while here at UK. My take - the dude built us onto levels most of us have never seen in the 10 years he has been here. Although this year is starting to stale like a fart the morning after a Two Keys/Tolly Ho bender, I believe he wants to win AND, will do what's necessary to get it done.

I know conventional thinking is that his contract is low expectations and high pay for him. BUT, he is a competitor. I just gotta think that he will MAKE UK take full advantage of the transfer portal and NIL.

Question - What is the difference in the NIL awarding to our football players versus the basketball player Oscar? If it's legit, fine, just say so but it appears the basketball player got a significant amount of $$$ while at the same time, Stoops was fighting with the AD about football not getting into the same pot. I don't follow the NIL landscape and honestly, what I know about these topics, I learn from you folks here. Just curious.

There are jobs he would leave for but I dont think auburn is one of them unless they open up a dump truck for him. And I don’t think he’s somebody they have up that high on the list to do that for. We have to remember he has shown very little to nothing in his 10 years on the offensive end. They stare right at bama and 25-30 pts a game won’t do it

A terribly disappointing and underachieving season, losing your NFL 1st round QB, recruiting in a lull, Cal comments and the immature Stoops response, new Auburn AD with KY ties..,

Feels like this is the year. Right?
Hopefully.

Wow! Do you think Auburn fans would put up with his coaching? No way Stoops leaves UK! Let’s be realistic he’s at one of the places he can go 6-6, 7-6 and 8-4. Win some bowls games and keep his job.

I personally like Stoop s as UKs coach!
reality is we Play in a tough NCAA football conference. SEC East teams have been down

it’s helped us! Elite players aren’t knocking down the door to play here.

2023 class Is Down in recruiting after a great year last year.

Enjoy the ride

Auburn ain’t coming after Stoops. Goodness.

This. Where is this coming from? Auburn interested in Stoops? Bama is putting up 40 and 50+ a game and Auburn is interested in a guy that hasn’t broken 31 all year? Is someone being paid to make up interest? Auburn fans would burn down the school if they hired Stoops.

Will only take the job if he can bring brother Mike. lol

Bama
Iowa
Michigan
Osu

Those are the only jobs I think he's consider. Bama, Michigan, and osu would never hire him anyway because they think he's beneath them. I love stoops but it would be a massive failure for them to end a search with him as the lead.

If Iowa comes open, I think he stays but it gets interesting.

I think this is close. Maybe a PSU or ND in there depending on the circumstances if those jobs ever come open. And I think it has to happen in the next 3-4 years I don’t think he coaches but another 5 years unless he takes a new challenge to recharge the battery in him

This is like a guy thinking his wife is so hot that actors, athletes and doctors want her only to find out her level is a shoe store manager or beard oil salesmen.

Like, but I want to know his offensive
philosophy first. No more hard headed DC. Who think offense is only a way of resting his defense...
Just checked and in his first year @Troy they are sitting at 6-2, but are only scoring at a 22ppg clip. That won't cut it. Sounds like a Stoops clone. His first year so he gets lots of slack especially since he's a CAT, but I made that mistake with Joker.

Auburn is a dumpster fire that also thinks they're better than they actually are. Harsin never had a chance for this reason. They think they're better than Stoops and he'd probably get the Harsin treatment.
I agree he'd be stupid to take the job, but he'd also be a 4th or 5th option.

If we lose Stoops then give me UT's OC, Alex Golesh. I want that offense as it is the next big thing in college football. I'd be willing to take a chance with him being a first time coach because we don't have an obvious replacement anyway. Sumrall would probably be our most realistic option but he's defensive minded like Stoops and his team is scoring 22ppg I think I read. I'm over that crap playing ugly, slow, boring, mistake filled offense and that will not get it done against any team with a decent offense.
