Jon Rothstein's Top 5 college players in his lifetime - THREE Dookies

Greatest college basketball players has to look to one-man teams that could really take over, such as Time Duncan, David Robinson and Bird. But certainly all-time greats would have to also look at Kareem and Walton, even though they had great supporting casts.

Depends on what the criteria was. Hurley felt like he was in every Final Four possible. When Jason Kidd and Cal knocked him out, I was elated that he finally wasn’t there. Those Duke teams were a FF fixture, as bad as I hate them.

Seems like an impossible list to make. I would have trouble doing the top 5 UK players n my lifetime, much less this.

Hurley seems like an odd one to me though. If you factor in team accomplishments I suppose. Then if that's the case why is JJ on there as he failed to win a title?

The other 4 won titles.

Redick wasn’t even the best player in college when he played. That was Adam Morrison. Think Redick got the favorability because he actually bathed.

Nail - you and I must be about the same generation. Like the list!
For the older posters, I would add Alcindor, Maravich, Elvin Hayes, Isaiah Thomas, Sampson, and our own Dan Issel. Jordan was a great player in college but had the good fortune of having great players around him much more than anyone you and I listed.

Live in Rupp non UK.
David Robinson, benard King, Dominique Wilkins, Charles Barkley, Hakeem Olajuon..

Old memory better than new.

This clueless nut job was born in 1986. That means he was about five/six years old when Laettner/Hurley were at Duke.

I’m sure he remembers those games well.

The best college player I've ever seen in a college uniform is Cooper Flagg. Laugh if you want. There's never been anyone that can do some of the things I've seen that dude do this year.

In my life..... Chris Jackson, Glen Robinson, Webber, wall, Davis are all up there

Chris Jackson, yes.

Top 10 Since probation (no particular order):

Kevin Durant - Texas
Chris Webber - Michigan
Jamal Mashburn - UK
Christian Laettner - Duke
Anthony Davis - UK
Carmelo Anthony - Syracuse
Tim Duncan - Wake Forest
Ray Allen - UConn
Jay Williams - Duke
Jason Kidd - Cal

Really bad list. He’s likely trying to get attention. It’s difficult to rank one-and-done guys like AD and Carmelo against players with long college careers. Also Grant Hill and Jay Williams and maybe even Battier are better than Redick and Hurley.
Can't stand him but Jay Williams was a beast at Duke.

If I’m a reporter, then I’m going with Steve Blake, Juan Dixon, Byron Mouton, Chris Wilcox, and Lonny Baxter because they beat Duke.

Patrick Ewing / David Robinson
Hakeem the Dream / Tim Duncan
KD / Len Bias
Ray Allen / DWade
Magic / Isiah Thomas

It’s very weird to say but when fully healthy Zion Williamson was the best player I’ve ever seen in college. I honestly think we may have had to wade through a few cases of involuntary manslaughter had not many people looked at that and just decided to get out of the way. A true freak among freaks. Fortunately or unfortunately I don’t think he played near 100% very much even in college.

That’s a good list. Only names coming to mind I might add are Reddick and Hansborough
