Jemarl Baker

Well it gets interesting now.Baker,Johnson and Smith all have offers.Curious to see who commits.

Neither Baker nor Smith will probably contribute next year to a great extent. I lean toward Baker because he is reputed to be the better shooter

Hell, take all 3 if you can get them. One can play PG, one SG and Johnson is big enough to play SF.

I'd be tickled with Johnson, plus one of Baker/Smith.

If we get Bamba and then Cam Johnson and either a Baker or Smith this will be one talented team for next year!

I would rather have Johnson over Knox and the another guard. Maybe Smith because he can play 1 or 2.

My starters would be Bamba Vanderbilt Johnson Diallo and Green. Have the ladder and knife ready the nets are coming down. Lol

Jemarl Baker, when I watch his high school tapes, I see Doron Lamb, Not Doron Lamb as a sophomore at UK...Doron Lamb as a senior in high school. Their handles look the same, their shot looks the same, they look a whole lot like the same player to me. Lamb was ranked quite a bit higher @29th, But he was at Oak Hill, those kids get a ton of looks by scouts and get on the ranking boards and move up. Lamb at Oak Hill also had good coaches, he was a little more polished.... but I see a lot of similarities in their game based on natural ability.

Lamb was also 6'4 and Baker is 6'2

Can't remember what Lambs wingspan was.

If baker comes in and shots 47% from 3 for a career...that would be nice.

Some hints in this week's media reports suggest Calipari might end up with 2 of them. We don't know what Adebayo, Humphries, Bamba, Knox will do. So it's still uncertain how many scholarships are open. I think Cameron Johnson will probably come to Kentucky if Knox doesn't. Wouldn't be surprised if Calipari signs Baker too. I don't see Smith coming to Kentucky.

If we get Baker and you're expecting him to play the way Lamb did as a freshman you're going to be dissapointed.

I agree with this. Lamb was a top 25 player. Baker will be a solid 3-4 yr player like shai will be. The thing that makes baker even more compelling is hes a lights out shooter. He could be a 3 star guy but if he can shoot as we'll as they say he can, then his 4 star ranking goes out the window. The only time I get excited about a guy ranked where he is, id if he is known to be a deadly shooter which is what he supposed to be. After a yr or two at uk competing with the best of the best in practice he could be a big time stud by the time he hits his junior yr, if not before that

If you prefer watching games to highlight tapes, link below is to a full game from the AAU Summer circuit between Earl Watson Elite and We R1. Baker is No. 13 for EWE, Trevon Duval is No. 1 for We R1. They both have great games in this one.

Should be noted Baker was the leading scorer on the UA AAU circuit, ahead of Duval.

Thanks for the post I now believe this kid will contribute next season if he comes here. He has decent enough handle to run the pg some for his team. I like this kid he has ok speed. Not sure why the kid isn't ranked higher 2 more inches of height and and a touch more athleticism and he would be a top 30 kid. This is a perfect kinda kid for us a 3 to 4 year kid. He looks quick enough that he should be able to defend he isn't going to leap out of the gym. Here is an honest comparison for us. Julius Mays. Won't contribute as much as Mays did for the season he won't get enough minutes. But he will have a game or 2 he will surprise everyone. Shoots off the dribble fairly well and a fairly quick release. Now I haven't seen the Smith kid yet so not sure of the 2 who I prefer

He doesn't need to be Lamb for us to be successful, he just needs to be more consistent than Mulder.

I really like this Baker kid. But, comparing him to Lamb?! Dude was flat out nails the two years he played here. Gonna be hard to live up to, IMO.

Kids these days....

Booker was ranked 29th and was a deadly shooter and was a high 4 star player. Booker like Bledsoe who wasn't an all American were two guys that I think cal expected to be back but due to upside and excellent play they were both lottery picks. I'm not 100% certain that if Booker would of returned we would of gotten Murray but we could have another final four if that team would of had ulis, Murray, Booker, skal as the 4 and dakari at center.

I really do believe Baker would contribute more than a lot believe. The kid is an elite shooter and can get to the rim as well. There is a reason that a lot of schools are wanting him right now and it's not simply because it's late. The more I read up on him, the more I like his game. I want him and Johnson myself. Not that I wouldn't take Smith but the fact that he's been focusing on baseball until late scares me a bit. It's a completely different type of shape that you need to be in for basketball and I've heard his basketball IQ is lacking as of now because of his baseball focus. With that said, the kid looks like a legit player and a good athlete. I think he'd be ranked higher had he been focusing on basketball instead. I just like Baker's shooting ability and that's a skill that's always in need. So, I see him getting a lot of minutes next year if he comes. I trust Cal though and I'm sure he'll get the kids he wants.
