Jaxson Robinson, lots of talent, no effort!

Pope and the players exceeded expectations with comeback wins against Duke and Gonzaga and beating Louisville. Personally I am over joyed with the team and the Coach however they have set the bar higher then most anyone expected so a little criticism when they don’t perform at a high level is warranted when these student athletes are getting paid BANK. Georgia starting QB running around in a 300k Lambo is insane to me but this is where we are at in this world of NIL

And he thought he could possibly be drafted or make an nba roster before this season??? 😳……the SEC may be too big a stage for him, he came off the bench for byu last year and I’d start brea from now over him. This isn’t the mtn west conference, big boys play here and nonchalant moping around doesn’t get it done at UK.
Yeah, anytime I hear someone say “pressure makes diamonds “ I say “it crushes steel too , and a lot more often “ .

Or get Kerr back as it seems to energize guys and we can sit Jaxson more. This team wont peak until March. I’m liking what i see as Garrison is going to be a load.
I watched Garrison literally leave guarding position willingly to allow Cyril to dunk hard in Carr’s face. He has work to do as well, I do love his energy but even he doesn’t seem to like physicality. Hope Pope tries to find more physical types in the future

Of course, but this is the first season and he put this together on the fly. Garrison is fun to watch grow but some of our idiot fans want to be 15 and 0 right now. Every game MUST be won and every player HAS to play great. Complete lunacy for anyone to analyze a bunch of guys that moved here for 1 year are playing with all new players and a new coach. Stupidty is a better word than lunancy.

Each an every transfer shoud be thanked instead of overanalyzed and in many cases here, crapped on.

Two ultra physical rebounders because Garrison, Moreno and another freshman will not get it done. Already tired of opponents offensive rebounding killing us. Need big, strong and dirty mean dudes to thrive in this league.

Jaxson is charmin soft but we've seen the effort. He was a force against the Zags. Played hard and even harder when Kriisa went out and he ran the point. Most games though he has disappeared. Some guys just aren't born leaders and fighters and it's a challenge I'd say to manufacture that come game time. Now, if he were turning in Tayshaun numbers we all could live with that. Can't tell you how many times I was told- and I thought- that Prince had a soft demeanor but he was a stone cold killer. Jaxson needs to find his killer instinct and you don't have to be a "rah rah" guy have it.

I also saw Garrison block a Cyril dunk attempt right in his face. He then proceeded to allow him to grab the loose ball and get posterized right after. We're not consistent with our effort. We'll have it in small stretches but can't contain it for some reason.

I don't buy that kid isn't making an effort. I just think he's not a big personality like the players we've been used to in the previous regime so people see the resting bitch face the kid has and think he's moping or he doesn't care. His play concerns me and I want less of him on the floor until he figures out his game but to say the kid doesn't care I don't think is accurate.

Also, Pope benched him against Florida in the 1st half. He sat for the entire 16-0 run but came back in gave us some good minutes and played pretty well finishing with 14 points. I think he would have sat more last night if not for foul trouble and Oweh and Brea struggling to make shots.

He definitely has a passive demeanor about him. Never goes to the basket to score or rebound. He hangs out around the perimeter. Even when he drives, he always backs it back to the free throw line for a jump shot. He needs to become roommates with Otega. Otega isn't scared of anyone inside.

I love knee jerk reactions.

People were singing his praises when he stepped up and delivered a HUGE win in Seattle against Gonzaga.

Now he is soft and passive and sucks.

He reminds me of Junior Darius “Disappearius” Miller. He’s going to great one game and disappear the next.

Lots of players are like this.

Got to take the bad with the good with these types of players.

He didn’t leave willingly. Cyril elbowed him out of position so he could dunk it. The foul did not get called.

I just finished watching the first half and Robinson made no effort to guard the guy that hit the 3 at the buzzer. None at all. That was pathetic.

He deserved credit for that. But that was not a physical game at all for the guards.

He is above average until someone starts pushing him around. Then, he wilts like a flower in the desert.

You can’t pout or mope around and expect to stay on the floor at Kentucky. At some point you will be replaced by a player giving more effort. There is nothing worse than having the talent and not playing hard. When Pope has the players he recruits, he won’t have to worry about this problem.

After watching the games this year, I think it really stood out tonight. He doesn't play hard and give a full effort. Cain wore him out on effort. I think Robinson is the missing link to a better than expected season. Kentucky needs him to play as hard as Butler does to be successful this season, and make a long run in the tournament.
Not sure about effort, but when the game gets rough he tends to disappear.

Jaxson Robinson is a string bean. Pretty good scorer but not strong enough to play at all three levels against a good SEC team. The troubles he has had this year have been against teams that shoved him off of his spots. Last night he was physically bullied. Get used to it, because we will see it nearly every time out for the rest of the year.

Well....it may be that indeed 6th mam is his best spot. Time to view the game, no pressure to immediately be 'the man'.

So who do you start at shooting guard?. Legit question. Brea? Noah for a time? Or do we actually run a 3 guard f/c lineup with no true 5?

Brea, Oweh, Butler, Garrison and Carr to start?
I'd be willing to see that try.

So with all of this being said why is Trent Noah getting some minutes
He’s tougher he hustles he’s not afraid to pull the trigger and he can make them
He’s clearly better than Chandler in games
Must be bad in practice I guess but damn we need another guy who will fight & make shots
Don’t tell me defense outside of Butler & Oweh they all play matador defense
I have been saying this the last 4 games. Perry is already looking better. I bet Noah would also. Give him about 10 of Robinsons minutes and see if he can make some shots.

Getting up only 5 attempts and ALL of them from the 3 pt line just confirms your very point. He doesn't like to work for his shots. Add to that he only has 2 rebounds and 1 assist in his 27 minutes of playing time and you get what we saw tonight and all the other losses.

It wouldn't bother me that bad but he was supposed to be "The Man" on this team. He has had some good games, but NO consistency. And now opponents know that he doesn't like the physicality, so that's all he'll see form now on.

Oweh and Brea going 5-25 on all of their attempts just magnified the need for Jaxon to give us more, but he couldn't.

Reality is setting in that if our other starters and Brea aren't making shots, we are doomed because Robinson can't pull us out alone.
He needs to drive the damn ball. I swear.

Btea should be starting now. Jaxon has had 1 or 2 good games that's it. Sad as he has ability to be out best player just zero want to.
It makes little sense how he did pretty well consistently in the Big 12 but disappears so often here. Here was the best player by far in their tourney game too.

That was my thought earlier.

Jaxon is pretty much the same player stat wise across the board compared to his previous seasons that mattered.

He just shooting a bit worse behind the arc but he's rebounding better than he ever has.

He has never been a get to the line for free throws kind of player 2 attempts per game at the most.

I'm not a fan of his effort most games but

Maybe we should lower our expectations statistic wise.. He averaged 14 for BYU but that's a whole different world.

Seems like on defense he’s always on the hip of his man. You know where their headed get in front. Guard that belt buckle

He needs to drive the damn ball. I swear.
Did you notice that he would drive to the goal last night and instead of putting up a shot, he would stop his dribble in the lane and look for someone to pass it out to. What the heck???!!!!

He did that more than once!!! Why won’t he drive HARD and go into the defender for a shot???!!!! Every other teams best Wing does this.

Pope's needs have a come to Jesus talk with Jax. Either start giving 100 effort n actually try to get open or hes not playing.

You can tell hes talented it's all about his effort n usually it's not there.

Plus, he wasn't a starter at BYU. I will say, kid is smooth. Sometimes, players don't look like they are giving effort that are smooth like that. I believe he gives good effort.

There is no option for him not playing. So, let’s get beyond that. But, his minutes can be reduced.

His demeanor and playing style are the reason he did not get draft love and had to come back. If he wants to have a basketball career in the NBA, he will have to toughen up.
