Jaxson 3FGA’s

Have to be reigned in. He is now 20/68 from deep which is 29.4%. He is leading the team in FGA and 3FGA, but does not shoot the ball well and takes a lot of bad shots.

There are many issues that Pope has to address on this team, but I think Robinson‘s usage is one of the main concerns.
It’s not his actual shot that is the problem and we need his scoring so keep firing just off better looks.

If you read the original post as “bashing players” then I don’t know what to tell you. The rest of us are having a discussion about actual statistics and how we have our most inefficient offensive player taking the most shots. Do you think that’s a good idea?
You called JR one of the most inefficient high usage players in the country. That is massive bashing.

“Bashing” would involve subjective takes. This is objective truth. Looking strictly at players who have taken over 60 threes, he is statistically one of the worst shooters in college ball. To discuss that is not bashing.

29% is just not going to cut it from this point forward. Robinson is big enough to get where he wants to in the paint, so why should he jack up so many 3's when he's stone cold????

I also wonder why Carr RARELY shoots 3's??? I thought he was a stretch 4. I am tickled to death with how dominant he;s been in the paint, but I am baffled with how he turns down those open looks from 3.
I’m with you … I think Carr should look to shoot more threes.

Pope wants 35 3FGA a game. He wants players taking open 3s.
This is not a good shooting team from deep. We only have 1 great shooter in the main rotation in Brea and all the others are just below average to bad.

Obviously Pope’s system is a lot of three attempts, but this year’s team is going to have to rein it in from deep to be successful long term.

Pope made a decision before the season started and I think it's the right decision given the lower level of talent on this team.
The decision: to shoot 35 threes per game. Jaxson is 6'7" and he's open a lot. He's supposed to take those shots and keep in mind, he was hitting at a high percentage early in the season.
His form is good, so I feel like he will eventually get going. Also, we get a good amount of those rebounds, because, well, bricks bounce really far.
But yeah, he's shooting, because he's supposed to shoot. I just wish Brea would get open more often.

If Jaxson’s percentages keep dropping, it will be even more frustrating to watch him continue to jack up the bulk of the threes. At any level of basketball, that’s just an odd thing to encourage.
It is surprising, if not amazing, that we are winning recent games not because of making many threes, but despite missing so many … especially for a team that professes to want to shoot 35+ a game.
It suggests the notion that we aren’t shooting very well simply because we’re not taking enough of them. That is a stratagem that I struggle to understand.

I know it's tough, but Pope is 9-1 with wins over Duke and Gonzaga and we're #5 in the country. If Pope wants to continue shooting 35 threes per game, nobody should question it. He's winning and he's smarter than you and I.

Against p5 competition, we aren't getting off anywhere near 35 per game, they're chasing us off the 3 pt line, so it actually works out.

But the Colgate thing, that was lack of effort. I wish we wouldn't do that, but that's apparently part of this teams DNA.

Well I rather JR and the team take as many 3 as possible than as many long 2s. If you take 35 you will make maybe 8-12 of them that’s between 24-36 points ( which is difference between a win and blowout win ) vs making 8- 12 long 2 which is only 16 to 24 points. The math works in the favor of taking the 3s.

Plus Coach Pope explained that taking 35 3s a game means that we cutting really hard to get open , that we are getting fast breaks and offensive rebounds in order to get open to take these 3s…

Yep. We made exactly one 3 during the 17-0 start. It was Brea. We then missed SEVEN 3’s in a row. Brea went on to hit the next one at the 8:11 mark. Robinson missed three more threes, and Brea connected again with just over a minute left.

You’re right - it’s Brea and a bunch of low percentage guys. I feel better about Butler making open threes than Robinson, Oweh, Chandler, Almanor, and Perry 😕

It’s weird.

Never saw OP all season until the Clemson game. Saw OP bitching all in the Gonzaga game thread but nowhere to be found afterwards. Didn’t see him again until last night.

So, we either have:
1. A chronically negative person
2. A troll looking to stir the pot
3. Textbook complainer complaining to have something to complain about
4. Leftover Cal stan who secretly wants Pope to fail to vindicate his boy

Everyone who knows of Robinson’s career knows he’s a streaky shooter and 35 percent from 3 is about his ceiling. He does have the capability to get red hot and score in bunches. You have to take the good with the bad sometimes.

Jackson Robinson cannot guard the one.
He's just okay at guarding the two.
If we have to use him more than just for spot minutes at point guard we're going to get smoked.
Travis Perry cannot guard the one. We have to use him at all we're probably screwed.

When either of those two are in the game we need to be playing zone mostly. If not guys are going to go by them and that's it man!

It's fine to be a zone team if needed. I didn't see him using that last night and he probably should be with those guys.

Many of his, including when he is open, are very off-balance. Wonder if that's going to get reviewed on film and corrected.

I have stated it NUMEROUS times, he takes too many bad shots. Not just from 3. Too many contested or off balance early in the shot clock shots. It is almost like he is just trying to get his, several times last night there was people open for a better shot, and he fired away with a guy on him. His defense is just as bad, he has to tighten those things up. If the Colgate guys abuse him, imagine what top SEC guys will do ???

You can justify it any way you like, I call 'em as I see 'em. You're not here to do anything but criticize.

Who cares when the dude started posting? If you are a new poster, are you obligated to only throw red roses toward UK to appease posters like you?

Everything he has said in this thread is accurate.

And as much as I love Pope and have full confidence in him leading our program over the next decade plus, he needs to get off this "analytically we need to be shooting 35 threes a game." It is absolute nonsense when you only have one guy (Brea) who can consistently make 3s. I am getting a little tired of Pope saying how we have such great shooters who are SUPER (that is his go to word in press conferences) good at forgetting about their misses and jacking up the next 3.

This is a problem that needs to be addressed .

IMO, the problem isn't JR taking too many shots. He just needs to get his make percentage up some. We have better pure shooters than him, but they can't get open for a shot against good competition. You have to give JR credit he comes off a screen well and elevates and has a quick release. He can get a shot off when a lot of others cannot. For this team to go far in the tourney, we will need JR to play well

Look at his efficiency last year at BYU and this year at UK. Of the guys that play regular mins he was last in efficiency at BYU and next to last at UK. It doesn't mean he sucks, but he's definitely inefficient/high volume. Part of it is because he's wildly inconsistent. Completely non-factor vs Duke. Carried the team for a stretch vs Zags. Kind of a stinker last night. He can score, he just isn't very efficient about it.

Let’s get you in a room with Pope so you can coach him up then lol
