Jaxson 3FGA’s

Have to be reigned in. He is now 20/68 from deep which is 29.4%. He is leading the team in FGA and 3FGA, but does not shoot the ball well and takes a lot of bad shots.

There are many issues that Pope has to address on this team, but I think Robinson‘s usage is one of the main concerns.
It’s not his actual shot that is the problem and we need his scoring so keep firing just off better looks.

If you read the original post as “bashing players” then I don’t know what to tell you. The rest of us are having a discussion about actual statistics and how we have our most inefficient offensive player taking the most shots. Do you think that’s a good idea?
You called JR one of the most inefficient high usage players in the country. That is massive bashing.

“Bashing” would involve subjective takes. This is objective truth. Looking strictly at players who have taken over 60 threes, he is statistically one of the worst shooters in college ball. To discuss that is not bashing.

29% is just not going to cut it from this point forward. Robinson is big enough to get where he wants to in the paint, so why should he jack up so many 3's when he's stone cold????

I also wonder why Carr RARELY shoots 3's??? I thought he was a stretch 4. I am tickled to death with how dominant he;s been in the paint, but I am baffled with how he turns down those open looks from 3.
I’m with you … I think Carr should look to shoot more threes.

Pope wants 35 3FGA a game. He wants players taking open 3s.
This is not a good shooting team from deep. We only have 1 great shooter in the main rotation in Brea and all the others are just below average to bad.

Obviously Pope’s system is a lot of three attempts, but this year’s team is going to have to rein it in from deep to be successful long term.

Pope made a decision before the season started and I think it's the right decision given the lower level of talent on this team.
The decision: to shoot 35 threes per game. Jaxson is 6'7" and he's open a lot. He's supposed to take those shots and keep in mind, he was hitting at a high percentage early in the season.
His form is good, so I feel like he will eventually get going. Also, we get a good amount of those rebounds, because, well, bricks bounce really far.
But yeah, he's shooting, because he's supposed to shoot. I just wish Brea would get open more often.

If Jaxson’s percentages keep dropping, it will be even more frustrating to watch him continue to jack up the bulk of the threes. At any level of basketball, that’s just an odd thing to encourage.
It is surprising, if not amazing, that we are winning recent games not because of making many threes, but despite missing so many … especially for a team that professes to want to shoot 35+ a game.
It suggests the notion that we aren’t shooting very well simply because we’re not taking enough of them. That is a stratagem that I struggle to understand.

I know it's tough, but Pope is 9-1 with wins over Duke and Gonzaga and we're #5 in the country. If Pope wants to continue shooting 35 threes per game, nobody should question it. He's winning and he's smarter than you and I.

Against p5 competition, we aren't getting off anywhere near 35 per game, they're chasing us off the 3 pt line, so it actually works out.

But the Colgate thing, that was lack of effort. I wish we wouldn't do that, but that's apparently part of this teams DNA.

Well I rather JR and the team take as many 3 as possible than as many long 2s. If you take 35 you will make maybe 8-12 of them that’s between 24-36 points ( which is difference between a win and blowout win ) vs making 8- 12 long 2 which is only 16 to 24 points. The math works in the favor of taking the 3s.

Plus Coach Pope explained that taking 35 3s a game means that we cutting really hard to get open , that we are getting fast breaks and offensive rebounds in order to get open to take these 3s…
