Jason Hatcher?

You speak in the present tense as if you know about Hatcher's discipline or lack-thereof. Stoops has made it clear that there are no character issues going on with Hatcher, and he was catching up on academic work. Until proven otherwise, don't accuse the kid of having poor character today. He may have made boneheaded mistakes in the past, but they're the same boneheaded mistakes that the vast majority of society has made.

Stoops has also made it clear last season that Hatcher screws up one more time in a significant way and he is gone from the program. He is not a choir boy.

There is not a significant amount of choirboys playing college football. Coaches expect a certain amount of rowdyness out of the aggressive types it takes to succeed at the game of football.

They have to however set their limits on what they will allow or have chaos.

Thank GOD!!!!!!

With the news of the other players no longer here, this would have been a huge hit. Glad he taking care of business
As if those other players have the impact on this season that Hatcher does. LOL.

Hate to see it but at least Stoops can't be accused of letting discipline lapse. We suspend several players for big games last year as well. Hopefully Jason will get back in week 3 and make up for it.

Sigh. 1 step forward and 2 steps back it seems sometimes. His absence may hurt us against SC

If he doesn't play better than he has to date it won't matter much. Jason Hatcher's play has been a major disappointment.

Maybe he needs to take his red shirt this year and get it together. I have teenagers. Not perfect and they all grow at a different pace

No, we need him! Even with his inconsistencies, he made some big time plays last year. What I fear the most, if weed is his issue again, is he will end up being kicked off the team...We all know who he will be playing for if that happens.

Hatcher suspended for the first two games per Jon Hale.

Yes, read that. The good news (as if there was some) is that he won't break his hand against USC again, the bad news is that we will probably really need him there.

I hope he learns his lesson.

Probably hanging out with Quick again, has he been suspended also?

That was a joke, in case you are wondering.

This appears to be an academic thing. Don't think Stoops would keep him for another failed piss test.

I listened to Stoops' interview yesterday and got the impression that it was something academic.

Disagree with this. He was a projected starter and another player who would have provided depth at that position(Kobie Walker) will also likely be out for the SCAR game. To act like this "won't matter much" isn't being realistic. Losing your top 2 projected players at a position isn't anything to scoff at.

As unfortunate as it may be, though, this kind of stuff is going to happen every now and again. These are things that UK will have to unfortunately overcome in its development as a program, and building quality depth at all positions would help lessen the blow of losses like this.

I gave this post a like. Especially the part that says we need someone to step up at the position that Hatcher plays if we are to have much chance of being improved on defense. They do not have to be another Dupree but they need to give good solid play at the position.

Been saying for a long time that the offense will be better this season, 100% confident of that. Really liked what I read today about Badet and Timmons. But so far, I am inclined to believe the defense will be essentially SOS, and losing Hatcher for a critical game (USC) is not inspiring me to change my mind.

Mr. Hatcher's absence from the first two games won't affect the team at all. His continued immaturity with behavior issues is an issue between he and his family first and his coaches second. The young man has the ability to be a highly productive player and citizen. He should not be left at the station when team UK pulls out. It is his decision and his alone.

Well with the pic that surfaced of Quick rolling a blunt a couple weeks ago I'd assume he has one coming. Probably dumb to assume that Petrino would discipline his players though

Big loss for USC game...only have the potential of Denzel Ware to rush the passesr off the edge. Jason needs to get his act together.

Here's the good news: we beat Scar last year without maybe our best overall player (Boom)...we can beat SCAR but our margin for error just got slightly smaller..still think it's going to be a shootout either way ..even without Hatcher we're going to have a good shot to win..Hatcher is tough to replace, but at the same time he's not some kind of game-changing force that we just absolutely have to have out there..we've recruited enough talent to where the drop off from Hatcher to the next guy won't be completely unmanageable..I'd rather have him out there I'm not going to lie, he provides another talented, big athletic body that'll help in run support, but we can still win at SCar without him if we play like we're capable..the good thing is that his replacement(s) will get a whole lot of prep in the ULL game and the staff will be prepping them a lot more with the ones in fall camp..that's why you recruit a bunch of good players, so the drop off is at least somewhat manageable when this kinda thing happens..who knows, maybe this'll be a blessing in disguise because we'll have to work that much harder to develop young depth on defense and it could pay off in other games when we need that depth

IMO this is not over an academic thing. He would not be suspended 2 games for that. This is over some type of bad behavior.

I am sure it will come out why he was suspended. There is over 100 players on the UK football team and I am sure most of them know why he was suspended. At least one and probably a lot more will out it IMO.

Not sure we need to know the details. Not important. Jason needs to embrace structure and be consistent with a professional approach. The hardest thing for a young person is to separate from those people they like that continuously tempt them away from the straight true path. Heck, that is true for some of us old dudes too.

Do not kid yourself. He has hurt the team. We need him at his best against USC on the road. He will be missed. Hopefully, someone steps up and is the next man.

im guessing that it is academic related and the fact that he had to get some things taken care of yesterday and his suspension was made public today just seems to coincide with maybe being low on his grades and missing tutoring sessions or something like that. hope that somebody steps up cause kobie won't be back til week 4 or 5 at the earliest and hatch has the most ability of the olb'ers as far as replacing what bud did for us.

The problem if I am the coach is no matter how talented he may be if he is not dependable and is likely to often to be on suspensions how can I trust him. Just when he is needed most he just might not be available. I would be trying hard to find a replacement for him. and if he didn't straighten up and fly right I would send him packing. If you are not available you are of no use to me.

If we give too many second, third, fourth, or more chances we become what we accuse UofL of being.

because 99% of the time, that is what "violation of team rules" means. I could certainly be wrong, not trying to start any rumors. Just putting 2 and 2 together.

I guess that's a fair statement today. But it could also be for something like missing a study hall. When it was announced our punt/kick returner would miss the bowl game everyone assumed he had that peeing in a cup issue, but turns out he missed a study hall, Richt suspended him for a game. Team rule is everyone attends study hall regardless of GPA, major or year. I don't know if Stoops has a rule alone those lines or not, but if so its a team rule and its academic, seems to fit what some are saying.

You're a smarter man than me, but two games for missing study hall seems like a lot.
