Jason Hatcher?

Saw a comment from Stoops a few days ago that Hatcher needed to improve, paraphrasing, "on and off the field." FWIW.

This was in response to several questions being asked of him not being at media day today.

Thankfully, it seems like everything is alright with Hatcher for now. Would have been a huge hit had he been suspended.

I just hope he hasn't been hanging around with Quick or any of the other UL crowd lately.

Thank GOD!!!!!!

With the news of the other players no longer here, this would have been a huge hit. Glad he taking care of business

I hope he realizes his potential soon and gets his act together. He can be as good as he wants to be.

Is it grades or the icky sticky again?

Seems like coach is saying "on and off field" makes me think there are personality issues as well.

Be lying if I said I wasn't slightly concerned..that's just a position where we can't afford to lose anyone (not that we can afford losses anywhere else)..I'm sure Petrino is perking his ears up at the thought of Hatcher leaving

wacky tobaccy twice and now academic issues. What would you call it? Smooth sailing?

Unless Stoops is hiding something, he said there are no suspensions and he has a little school work to make up. Some of you must have had perfect children.

I do not know about what makes a perfect child, but I know Jason has to get his crap together. He is on the precipice of squandering something special due to a lack of discipline. I also think Trinity knew what it was doing when it recently started a drug testing program. Glad my kids did not go there.

You speak in the present tense as if you know about Hatcher's discipline or lack-thereof. Stoops has made it clear that there are no character issues going on with Hatcher, and he was catching up on academic work. Until proven otherwise, don't accuse the kid of having poor character today. He may have made boneheaded mistakes in the past, but they're the same boneheaded mistakes that the vast majority of society has made.

He was just on a 'plan', and a little short leash because of 1 old issue. And he didn't exactly fulfill his obligation of being on that short leash, in the class room. jeez, its not a big deal at all. Drew Barkers 'issueS' were a lot more, and a lot worse. He is still here and fine. Chill out

Yup, it does not take a rocket scientist to see the kid has had discipline issues. Pot smoking, not finishing class, inconsistent play, and Stoops' continued reservations about praising him. So, I will not bury my head in the sand on this.

Listen to Stoops talk about Forrest today earning their respect and praise ("it will not just be given in this program"). There is a reason Stoops has to be coaxed to talk about Hatcher and has hesitancy in his voice. And, a reason why Ware has received early praise. Don't kid yourself.

I still remember Jasons' Fr. year at South Carolina when he broke his hand, and wouldn't tell anyone for fear of being taken out of the game. Tough kid !!

Leave the kid alone. He is just a teenager. A lot of kids have experimented with a little weed...big deal!! He is a very talented and important piece of our defense and deserves every opportunity to hone his craft on the feild. Lets support and cheer for Mr Hatcher instead of criticizing him

There definitely seems to be some issues here. Lets hope they can be cleared up. He plays at a need position where UK can not afford attrition at the present time.

I Hope the kid can get straightened out because he could have a promising future. Lets hope he doesn't blow it.

IMO if the kid is again on the whacky tobacky he will have about used up his chances at UK.

I mean it's only been reported by 2 top sources today that it's an academic issue but by all means let's all keep accusing the kid of smoking weed, cussing the preacher and beating up old ladies.

Yes, and as recently as last season, Josh Forrest was receiving similar criticism to that of Jason Hatcher. Change doesn't happen overnight. Earning trust is not something that happens in a day. Hatcher could be in the process of shoring things up, he could have been avoiding these issues for a while now, but it takes time. Isn't fair to him for you to bash away behind your keyboard labeling the kid as a bonehead with no discipline when he may very well be doing well on, and off the field.

Save your reservations and perceptions about others for when there is some actual substance to the things you label them as. I doubt you would want everybody calling your child the neighborhood fiend while not actually knowing themselves, and basing it on "the hesitation in somebody's voice". I think if that's something you wouldn't want brought onto yourself, and your own children, you shouldn't push that onto others.

I am not throwing this kid under the bus but he does seem to have some issues. We do know he has had Whacky Tobaky problems in the past. IMO it is reasonable to suspect he might have been involved with it again.

I think the kid has talent and hope he doesn't mess up what could be a good future with this type stuff. Going to class and doing your class work is part of being a student athlete.

The kid went to a very good high school in Trinity and unless he had special treatment there he should be capable of doing his class work so effort I suspect would be the problem.

I have worked with professional athletes. If you guys think coddling Hatcher is what will make him better and denying what he needs to do to get better, then your perceptions of how Stoops works is limited.

Some may say avoiding the truth is the best way to help this kid. With those people around him, he will be a good college player, but will not achieve his goals. He needs to start acting like a professional now. I hope that is happening, as it has with other guys on the team.

And, your reading comprehension sucks. Neighborhood fiend? If you love your kids, you do not lie to them. Discipline is required to achieve the next level. I know a Pro Bowler. The guys that take it to their top level don't slide or take days off. They have incredible professional discipline. No one called Hatcher a fiend. Calm down.

I agree many times coddling is the cause of the problem. These gifted athletes have been coddled since they were very young and just expect that they should be treated differently. They run into trouble when they think the rules and sometimes laws also shouldn't apply to them. The sad thing is that there are some schools where they are correct in that assumption.

I don't claim to know all the ins and outs with Hatcher but what I do know is that his career to date has been underwhelming IMO. He hasn't lived up to the hype promised when he signed. Maybe that's my fault, maybe I expected too much. What I do know is somebody at the position Hatcher plays, be it him or someone else, must step up their game if UK hopes to show marked defensive improvement this year.

I gave this post a like. Especially the part that says we need someone to step up at the position that Hatcher plays if we are to have much chance of being improved on defense. They do not have to be another Dupree but they need to give good solid play at the position.
