Jamarion Wilcox

They have Beckwith at RB and he did quite well in the scrimage according to Coen.
Beckwith received a few reps at RB late in the spring scrimmage against the backup defense because Wright and Jefferson were out with injuries and Stoops had already seen what he needed to see from Davis and McClain (didn't want to risk an injury late in the scrimmage). Beckwith mainly practiced as a receiver this spring. He is 6'5' tall, so you will never see him play a signifigant snap as a RB in a game unless it is an emergency.

However, I do not believe Stoops will take another RB out of the portal unless a current UK RB transfers out. With Davis, McClain, Jefferson, Wright, and Wilcox, our RB room is talented and full. We also have PFO Isaac Dixon who was the best football player in the eastern half of the state as a hs senior and is more than capable of playing a few snaps if called upon.

It's all good. You post frequently here on the UK board, but always about GA. The threads here are about UK football, because this is a UK football board. You turn the threads into GA discussions. No worries. At least you are literate and knowledgeable. But this is not the first time you have turned around a thread to point out questionable limitations for a player who signed with us. Don't say you haven't. That's okay. I understand how GA fans think. My niece and nephew attend GA, and one of our neighbors in Georgetown is a GA grad.

And BTW, if Wilcox ran a 12.01, he would not be competing in the GA state track meet. Hell, I used to run under 12.2 when I was in hs. That doesn't get you into the runoffs in the KY state meet, so it doesn't in GA either. Know what? I think you got the 12.01 off the internet. Wilcox ran 12.01 on March 16 at the Allatoona JV Home Meet, but that happened right after he ran in the 4x100 relay. This info is accessible if you google Jamarion Wilcox 100 meters. The reason Wilcox is built as you described is because he was a finalist for the GA 6A 182# wrestling championship. He was training as a wrestler, and still ran 12.01 at the Allatoona meet. If he had trained as a sprinter, he would have run a faster 100 meters, I guarantee that. Wilcox won't be training as a wrestler here at UK. He is plenty fast. Both Wilcox and Boom are/were short, quick-twitch, explosive cutback runners. That's the comp. FWIW.

I make an attempt not to post about UGA. Maybe he had an off day, maybe he wasn't 100%.. it was also last year because track state championships have not taken place this year. As for 12. SEC 100 m in state meet, sure there are, he played in 4A, mid size classification in the state with some extremely poor systems in the area that don't get much participation, Baldwin County isn't one of those systems.
I never once said he wasn't fast enough to be an SEC back, I said he was similar to Boom. Which he isn't.

Really? You post here all the time about UGA, so what are you saying? Do you lack self awareness? It is okay to be proud of your team. They earned it. But this is a Kentucky website.

Wilcox rushed for 2059 yards and 9 yards/carry last year. Whatever you say now, this is not the first time you have obliquely suggested Wilcox is not UGA material. But Ohio State and Clemson recruited him. So you are wrong about Wilcox, and he will prove it at Kentucky.

Boom had great burst but I never thought his top end speed was that impressive. He was run down several times.

Not convinced UK has had a back like Wilcox. Might be more like Rafael Little than anyone else.

Rafael Little was a very good pass receiver and a good deal bigger than Wilcox. The right comp for Wilcox might be Dion Lewis from Pitt. If you want a Kentucky comp, how about Mark Higgs?

Not trying to cause trouble but Little was not big. Right now Wilcox is about the same weight as Little, and I think Wilcox is taller. They are similar builds.

I have never said he wasn't a good prospect,he is. What I said was he wasn't similar to Boom. I most likely have saw both perform in athletic completions during their HS careers than anyone here. Boom.is shorter, thicker and at the time was quite a bit faster. UGA recruited an instate legacy kid and was all in on him, that's why Wilcox wasn't recruited, not because he wasn't good enough. By the time the back UGA was recruiting decided on Bama it was too late to get involved with Wilcox. So what exactly am I wrong about, I just don't agree on him being a similar back to Boom. Lots of backs that aren't similar to Boom are very good backs.

This is a weird thread with many ups and downs! Peak offseason!

From The Courier Journal Articlehttps://www.courier-journal.com/sto...ecruiting-2023-class-commitments/69808120007/

"Kentucky football may have found its bellcow running back of the future.

UK added a commitment to its 2023 recruiting class Friday evening, when Jamarion Wilcox pledged to the Wildcats over national powers Ohio State, Clemson and Auburn.

Although it's too early to say how important Wilcox will be to head coach Mark Stoops, returning offensive coordinator Liam Coen and incoming transfer quarterback Devin Leary as a freshman, his arrival potentially fills an important hole in the roster in the years to come."

NOTE:
The 5-foot-10, 195-pound senior from South Paulding High School in Douglasville, Georgia, will step on campus in the summer as a potential long-term replacement for NFL draft prospect Chris Rodriguez, who finished his career with the third-most rushing yards in UK history.

You are a UGA fan posting frequently about UGA on a Kentucky website. At least you are intelligent. If you weren't intelligent, you would have gotten labeled a troll. So congrats for that. But you are not being completely truthful. Your past comments about Wilcox have gone beyond whether he is similar to Boom. You said other things, including inferences that Wilcox isn't as fast as the better SEC backs. And we have shown that your earlier comment about watching Wilcox run at the GA state meet was actually not true. You got his 100 meter time off the internet write up of the Allatoona JV meet, held at a time when he was training to be a wrestler, not a sprinter. Wilcox was one of the best wrestlers in your state. Wrestlers are good at rolling around on a mat but do not run their best 100 meter times without training as sprinters. But it's all good. Performance is more important than online conjecture.

Very good share!. When you rush for >2,000 yards in a season, you are pretty good. When Ohio State tries to sign a running back, he is pretty good. Great to have Jamarion!

Actually I am part of the judgement crew for GHSA track meets. I am not a sprint specialist, hurdles was my expertise. Regardless of whatever anyone thinks, Wilcocks does not have the top end speed Boom processed. But not one of UGA's backs do either. Wilcox is a good prospect, he just isn't the same type back Boom was. Doesn't matter where he is going to school, or who he signed with. Will he have a better career? That is to be determined down the road. Just because someone doesn't agree that a UK signed is the best in the SEC doesn't mean he is cutting on UK. UGA signs a defensive class that is elite, but the offensive side isn't all that at times.

You are a Georgia fan. You constantly post about Georgia here. You have your own talk board. AFAIAC, you are welcome here to a certain point. Most Kentucky fans only care about Georgia football as far as our chances to beat you. When you constantly talk about Georgia football on our talk board, it is boring and a distraction from our discussion about our own team. You have been welcomed here because you are mostly cordial. When you get into pissing contests with Kentucky fans on a Kentucky talk board, you are going over the red line friend. 1stKatMan, SI, and UKfirst have a point. Respect them or else take the train and post on your own board. That is how I look at it. If you post here, find a way to link your comments to pertinent Kentucky subjects at hand. This is a Kentucky talk board, not Georgia.

Grumpy this is our free board. So, I believe you understand who is on the "free" board and the difference from the fans who are on the paid board. I am glad you post here and enjoy reading your post. Just because people don't agree or get upset with your post doesn't bother me! It is a board that is here to both inform and also entertain all of us interested in UK football. I find your comments to be "blunt" at times and to the point - which again is not a problem to me. Keep posting and keeping us informed with as much knowledge as you have and opinions that you care to share. Football boards are fun and are meant to be challenging at times. I post things knowing I'm going to get "hammered" many times from many. But those posts keep everyone posting - even in thw slow times and make's it more enjoyable to look at the board to see what is going on!

Go Big Blue!

I fully understand it's a UK board, I don't put UK's program or coaches down. I wasn't putting the player this thread is about down. I just think comparing him to Boom is a bad comparison. This probably won't be accepted very well, but I think a much better comparison is Kenny McIntosh, UGA's starting back in 22. About the same size, decent speed, good balance and vision, very good hands. Didn't put up huge numbers because of rotation UGA uses.

Fans of other teams are welcome on the board so long as they aren't trying to disrupt, disparage or troll etc. that obviously isn't the case here. It's understandable that fans of other programs are likely to have opinions different than some of our own. Take them, leave them or ignore them.

Speaking just as a member not a mod, I personally would like to see a lot more fans of other programs on here in particular SEC teams, and other teams on our schedule. I find it not only interesting to see how we are viewed from the "outside" but I like to hear interesting tid-bits about their players, coaches etc.

Grumpy, I enjoy reading your take on things that pertain to SEC football. You recall when schools like TN and Auburn took cheating to a whole different level at a time when schools were actually punished for their malfeasance instead of being rewarded for it as is the case nowadays. So keep coming back, keep posting and stay safe.

Agree 100%. Boom had tremendous acceleration to top end speed.

Look at these splits from 2016:

17 runs over 20 yards
34 runs over 10 yards

That same year Damien Harris only managed 11 runs over 20 yards and 28 runs over 10 yards for comparison.

I'd argue Boom, ran for 1200 yards this season, got to his max speed very quickly. There were some DBs with higher max speeds though so some would reasonably think he wasn't that fast if he got caught from behind. I would bet Boom would have been in the top 1% of 20 yard sprints if that was a thing instead of 40's.

HS highlight tapes don't tell all that much, but based on their limited insight, I don't think Wilcox has a similar acceleration to max speed, or maybe even the same max speed.

This. ^^^^^^

I really enjoy reading @Grumpyolddawg perspective on SEC teams, and especially his comments on Georgia HS recruits that are national recruits.

Grumpy has information and insights that most people posting on here don't have because he lives amongst those recruits, coached on Georgia HS, has a lot of contacts with other coaches, etc.

Just because he has an (educated) opinion of a certain player or team (including UK) that you don't agree with doesn't mean he can't post here or that some UK fans don't want to read what he has to say.

We have a handful of fans who post here and on RR (not sure they are even UK fans) that like to live in an echo chamber where everyone agrees with their opinions and if they don't agree 200%, they want that poster banned.

Keep posting Grumpyolddawg, I'll read your posts even if they pi$$ me off, because I know you are a Georgia fan (and that's OK) but I also know you know a lot about recruiting and football FROM YOUR PERSPECTIVE!!!

That's why most posts are called opinions.

LOL. To be fair about it, since you brought up the topic, I also recall when GA took cheating to a whole different level.

Would love for somebody to do a story on the whole Wally Butts-Bear Bryant thing. That would be most interesting.

Think every school except Vandy has had some type of probation over the years, a lot of it based on TN's finger pointing/snitching. NCAA knew they could rely on TN to turn somebody in if they(NCAA) looked the other way in Knoxville.

The visitor issue has really gotten blown out of proportion. I looked up and down this thread. I don't see anyone suggesting fans of other teams cannot or should not post here. All I see is a request to help keep the threads more or less on topic and show a certain amount of respect for UK on a UK board. Sounds about right, I think.

No I said he was as fast as Boom. In fact I compared him to UGA's starting RB in 22. As a HSer not a blazer. But decent speed. Very good balance and vision, built alike, good receiver. Kenny McIntosh. Even rated similar coming out of HS. Is he as good as the back at UF Eitene or ever how it's spelled, maybe not. But he might be best in SEC, You are trying to twist things I say into something negative. Have you watched him wrestle, play football or run in a track me in person? Or watch his highlight film?

This horse has surely been kicked enough. Please stop diverting threads from their UK topics. Of course, nobody is suggesting you can't post here, but please have some respect for the fact that this is a UK board. If you feel compelled to post about GA, there is another place for you to do that. I noticed that you claim that you try not to post here about GA, but that is obviously not true. If you enjoy communing with UK fans, that is wonderful but have respect for UK by allowing the threads to stay on topic please. (I would say the same to a UK fan and have done so on a number of occasions.)

He is talking about Wilcox, a UK player and speaking of kicking the can, you are one of the kickers. when you start putting moderator by your name then start lecturing posters on topics they can/cannot discuss! Otherwise either enjoy grump or ignore him! Many of us enjoy his posts even if a few are about GA!

What are you talking about? You compared Wilcox to a Bachk who imo isn't a very good comparison, I gave a name of one who I thought was a better comparison. This was about RBs not a school, stop trying to twist everything I post to fit your agenda.

Also speaking of Etienne (who I agree is a very good rb for UF and had me nervous during our game last year everytime he touched the ball) wasn’t he body slammed by DW during the game? I’m glad that dude is on our team!!

What was going on with Butts and Bryant?
"The Saturday Evening Post" ran a story that Butts and Bryant fixed their 1962 game. While there was smoke, the story never could be proven. There supposedly was phone calls between the two that were dubious. Butts sued and won $3M. Google it, there's some interesting stories on the event.
